Hey guys, meant to ask, is there any advanced riding courses in SG ? Apart from the defensive riding ?

What about in Malaysia ?

 

I mean a full proper advanced street riding course. I want to get better at cornering - I was always really not confident at school in figure of eight and crank course, and later when I started riding, I never got the hang of it.

During my trip I learned a bit how to counter-steer with the help of a fellow rider who explained to me, and since there was TONS of bends, I could practice a bit, but it was hard.

 

When I enter a turn, or bend, I always slow down much more than required, and I don't really feel confident. It goes well and I'm sure from the outside it looks ok-ish, but I really want to get better.

After 2 years of riding, I still sometimes do super wide u-turns, or wide corners in bends.

 

It is never dangerous because like I said, I tend to go slow enough, but then, it's dangerous because sometimes I have an impatient bike or car behind me, negotiating the bend behind and getting frustrated that all of a sudden I slow down too much.

 

I know the theory of it, was told many times do this do that, but the truth is, I am still not good.

 

I learned that in Europe and the US, and Australia, they do advanced riding courses where they teach to to improve your cornering, your bike stability and use of brakes, and I was hoping I could find this here.

I am willing to go to MY for a few days to do it, or Thailand too.

i went through the SAF defensive riding course...

was taught how to counter steer in a skid,different body posture when doing cornering...

even try locking the wheels and skid then counter it...

quite fun for my course...

the instructor chased us as we went through super tight course with lots of tight bends and turns...

he rode so low until the engine and leg guards are scrapping the road...

gave us a 10 sec start and chase till his front tire almost touching our rear tires...

but then i heard at other centres they are taught different things...

so don't think there is a fix plan...

Rule of negotiating bends, slow in, fast out.

Look ahead and not down. Look where you want your car/bike to go and not down. I use this rule sice day one when I drive. Works for me.

Today saw a duke 125 in my office carpark. It has really huge rear sprocket, the size of our front disc brake .

Looks like the sprocket of a class 2 bike.

I skid almost in slow motion. I was looking at the front wheel as I applied the brakes and I could see it skidding, I felt so helpless as it was slipping and I couldnt do anything, never ever felt so helpless in my life before.

Haha..I actually though about it, but it's just going to be wrecking the bike that's all, I have zero technique to start with..

I know...how many riders have told me this.. I feel super dumb every time because I understand the theory, but I never do it right: slowing down then picking up speed, I do it 3 times out of 5.

Looking where I shoud, I can only do when it's a large bend: when I throw my sight and still see the bend, then it works, but a sharp bend, or with reduced visibility, I'm doomed.

I think I'm maybe scared of not turning properly so instead my sight changes its target, I honestly don't know, but in the end, I just super slow down to negotiate the corner more easily.

Strangely in a car, I have no problems doing bends and corner even when very sharp, I'm actually kinda pretty good at it in all humility, when I compare to the bike.

But I don't even go fast, that's the problem ! I see other riders, they are riding safely, they negotiate the bend just nice, and me, I have to super slow down to be able to do a nice curve like them... :cry:

You know what, have been here for almost 3 years now, havent paid a single fine. Have committed 2 offences(that were caught ) both for parking, one from HDB and another from SPF and both times appealed and got waived. Need to see how long I can carry this clean record.
