Aikamai you might even be able to find a flip up for around 200 - if you are hesitating between FF and open face, flip-up is for you, you get the benefits of both: FF when riding for protection and chin up when stopped if need to talk.

I want to DIY replace the digital meter, left side switch control and the right side switch control on my UG3. My friend got me the parts from India I was able to replace the left side switch control easily, but for replacing the right side switch control need to remove the head cowling. I anyways need to remove the head cowling to replace the meter. I tried removing the 2 bolts at the bottom, but the head cowling still doesnt come off. In UG2 I remember there were 2 screws at the side, but for UG3 there are no screws at the side. Can someone please let me know where are the screws located?

That head cowling is a &%^$** ! haha.. so, here's where you can look for the bolts:

(See my next post for photos)

 

- remove all the dashboard screws (2)

- remove the side dashboard screws, there are below the signal lights

- INSIDE THE SIDE dashboard fairing, there is on EACH SIDE a bolt, size 8 or 10 mm - you need a long-ish wrench or tiny hands steady hands to unbolt them. These are usually the ones people forget when doing this, not easy to see.

- UNDER at the BOTTOM of the head cowling, (you should have the license plate assembly attached there if stock setup), you have 4 bolts to remove: 2 directly to the assembly of the plate or the head fairing, and 2 a bit deeper and more towards the center of the bike. They are 10mm bolts, I think.

in order to remove the head cowling for ug3 and above need to remove 2 screws above the meter, 2 below the signal lights,2 near the bottom of the cowling and 2 bolts under the cowling...

this is just the start...

@revhappy, here you go: (Sorry for the dirty parts, I always play mechanic before I wash the bike to not spoil it afterwards..)

Under the signal light screws to separate the dashboard plastic from the fairing (x2) :

Now it is by going BETWEEN the fairing and the dashboard plastic piece that you will access the INSIDE bolts (x2) , one on each side.

Grab a torch light to see them and aim the wrench (these are bolts if I remember correctly, not screws like on the outside of the dashboard)

They hold the headlight assembly in place, could be easier to do them last once the whole thing is loose

If your wrench is not long enough to reach, I can bring you my T wrench tomorrow just let me know.

At the bottom of the headlight assembly, there's 2 bolts for the license plate bracket (holder) to the main frame, where your signal light sensor is:

And here's a view of both bolts fixing the headlight assembly in place, you'll see them better when you remove the previous 2 bolts:

You're probably much handier than I am with all this, but just in case, a few tips:

 

- Put a rag on the front wheel fairing, or the headlight assembly will scratch it - and it will help keeping it in place if you don't need to unplug all the wires right away.

- Get someone to help you hold and put the whole thing back if at first you struggle: took me forever by myself, next time I had help, only a few minutes (Now able to do it alone - Useless skill for everyday life)

- The bolts all look the same and are almost the same size, same goes for their washers, make sure you keep them in a way you can remember what goes where

- Get yourself a cold bottle of water or a drink, you will need it !

In my case one of the 4 dashboard screws(the rightmost corner one) is rusted and "star groove" is almost gone and hence can't remove it I have managed to remove all other screws, just this one is stuck. I will try sprays WD40 and see if it helps.

 

Last time I took the bike to UM, Ah Chiey managed to remove the headcowling to replace bulbs and the speedo cable, I am wondering how did he manage to remove that screw.

Dear bros here! ohhmy my digital speedo got a crack. Anyways to get it replaced locally or chealply? . And regarding the knuckling sound from my engine. I suspect its the piston slapping. may i know how much roughly does it cost to repair the piston slap? Maybe piston ring? Or the whole piston?

think the speedo cover is $25 from um. think change piston and ring. hopefully no deep scratch in the cylinder if not must bore. may need polishing.

@revhappy, WD40 should do the trick, let in work in 10min before trying again. Just go at it slowly, putting a lot of force downward rather than in the rotating sense, to help the screw dislodge from the thread. And don't put back the screw unless you replace it with a new one. You can ride without it until you go get a replacement.

Oh and I forgot to mention the side screws below the signal lights are fitted with a system of angled washer - you'll get it when you see it - so sometimes when you put them back, it's a bit tricky, you have to center the washer or re-shape it in place for the screw to go in perfectly. If you have a slightly longer screw the same size to replace them, it's better, or just open and reassemble the headlight cowling half a dozen times and you'll get the hang of it
