Hello all.

Need help from the experienced pulsarians!

My engine have this faint but hearable engine some kind of knocking clingking sound. Like knockling soundd. Any body know any possible factors that may have cause this?

Its a fbe plate pulsar 200

Good thing I went to ask and let them test, is actually not much difference with or without dB killer, just a bit more beefier sound and is still within exhaust noise spec in singapore, also some repo

@ Gaban : you are extraordinary. Having the time and luxury to do what you do. Inspiring pictures and locations. I wish I had that.

 

As for big versus small bikes, Oren has pretty much nailed it. If you tour on a common bike like a HondamWave or YBR, getting it fixed in unknown locations will be easier. Overall maintenance is definitely lower also. Again I use the term Rider Fatigue, with a Wave, if you are small built, Rider Fatigue isn't really all bad. Very lepak and FC is great.

Farhanians, it could be just the chain that needs to be adjusted. When was the last time you had the chain tightened? It sounds like its coming from the engine and you mostly hear it when you clutch in (free wheeling).

 

To check if the chain needs to be tightened, put the bike main stand, rear wheel touching ground. Push the lower chain part up and see how high you can push it. If you are riding alone without heavy load on the bike, on the stock suspensions, the chain shouldn't go more than a couple of cms up. Even less would be good.

 

If you ride with a pillion or heavy load than add another cm.

 

If the chain slack is more than that, get it to a bike shop to tighten it. Or bring it to the BTWO I can do it and show you how it's done. If you do come please let me know so I can bring the right tools.

 

If the chain slack is OK then try to give us more Clues on when exactly the sound happens, is it when you throttle when idle when clutching in? Anything can help :)

 

And if all this is too much, drop by UM and let them test ride the bike they will sort it out :thumb:

HEYY thanks for the quick reply. I doubt its the chain. Just now when bike is stationary. I put on neutral. Start it and i go by the side of the bike and im sure its coming from the engine. The sound also propotional to the rpm.

2 possibilities that I can think of..

 

Timing chain or the piston slap..

 

Could b other reasons.. just meet us in btwo n we try to hear it.. to have more accurate diagnose, bring down to um n find ah tek..

Dont want to scare u farhan but last time my UG2 knocking sound turned out to be bearings flying all over the place on the right side of the engine, which caused the gear teeth to be blunt too. In the end i overhauled the bike which costed about 1k since it suddenly jerk and i couldnt go beyond 40km/h as the knocking would be louder.

 

But yours FBE p200... don't think its the engine prob. Maybe something is loose.

News Gaban in the morning, an accident occured around 6.50am at Bukit Timah Expressway. going towards changi airport around SLE exit. a large tree branch had fallen on the center divider, which involved 1 car and 1 motorcycle causing massive jam which lasted for almost an hour. the rear car window and some other parts of it was smashed. similar to the motocycle. fire fighters, ambulances and traffice police came at the scene. i was inside the bus. seeing the whole thing. it was raining. coundnt saw cleary where the driver or the motocyclist were. after that, i went to sleep. zzZZzzz.....
