Good morning everyone. Good to be back on home soil.

Can't wait to hop on my bike and go riding.

Was riding on BKE and there was sudden down pour. Got wet before I could pull over and put on my rain coat. By the time I reached tanglin road, the sun was blazing.. my colleague asked me - why do you need to wear rain coat when its so hot? see you sweat so much. I just nod the head - dont know what to say!

Just wondering - So after this, does the bike feel like (almost) new? What kind of mileage can it add on after the over haul?

no idea. not really interested. no mood right now. i already lost more than $3k for overhauling 3 times. now, my bro is sharing the bike. i understand how he feels. am sick n tired of this.

i already told many times to many folks, i wont get a s4 cos i dun wana be a regular guy.. the word 'touring' doesnt mean 'must have a big bike'. even though i dun have the time and money to travel to six different countries like oren did, ive already travelled to lots of places in MY very often with p180 ug3 n my hyosung and some parts of thailand alone, and im still learning more roads in MY. i luv my ug3 despite having UM as the agent. now, that i have to share my ug3 with my bro, i have to face him and explained to him how UM werks. hes a regular guy who doesnt know about the world of motorcycles. he just rides it and listens to what his friend says without doing some homework on his own. a regular guy like some other regular folks here in sg. as for me, im not.

Understand how you feel bro Gaban.. Not easy but god willing this too will pass..

I too got pissed somehow but after that I realised not really UM's fault. I look at the fz16 bike shops prices for simple things, very exp already. When I compare the prices from um to other shops for other bikes, it's often cheaper.. I think the problem maybe UM can work on is their initial quotation.

They can't tell you exactly how

Much it will cost because they need to open the engine and thats ok but they should show the price list before hand with all the parts and tell you so ok if we change all this, here's the price.

At least you have the option to say do it or don't do it, not until they open then oh by the way now the bill is this.

But from my little experience with the overhaul and what I researched I really don't think their prices are crazy. I think they are in par with the current market.

As for big bike for touring vs small bike I think just leave that debate for people who ride only in SG. Or people who only ride big bikes on big roads. Those who are curious enough to look at ride reports and listen to riders who actually went places, they will know better :)

A bigger is definitely more comfortable but the truth is, in this part of the world:

- small bike = fits the roads better and the traffic better (squeeze, ride on tiny narrow bike lane)

- easier on bad condition roads (big bike on bad roads= more difficult to handle then small bike, ends up brig against the rider instead of with him)

- cheaper to maintain : when you tour a lot, your bike metamorphoses like a Pokemon! Needs more attention, more money. Go tour 50k+ on an S4 and see how much the overhaul cost.. Confirm 2500++!

- easier to fix if you brake down: on a pulsar or a wave you don't mind the

Mechanic from lost corner of MY to try DIY a fix for you. Take a versys or a Tenere and see how your heart feels when you see the guy hitting it with a hammer do DIY a fix on it haha..

If we were in the US where all roads are like Christmas present of asphalt and signage and smooth surface, with huge distances, then yes a bigger bike will be a good option. But in south east Asia, ride a wave and enjoy a true trouble free touring experience!

to be fair to UM, i don't think they just do and charge you...

they will always call the owner and ask if they want to change stuff and the pricing before they do it...

seen them do it countless times...

the mechs also use their experience and discretion to see what needs to change and what still can be used...

seen NGAT did that on lots of bikes...

if still in usable condition and no need to immediate change out they will suggest to use back and call the owner to inform him/her...

unless the owner tells them to just change no need to call him/her...
