@revhappy and sorry to hear about your accidents and I'm glad you are both ok.

None of you was wearing gear, were you? :)

Rev, great job on keeping the bike up and controlling it, really amazing, seeing the depth of the scratches it must have been a good hit.. And you didn't lock your wheel while braking, that's great too :)

Maybe you ought to tell your wife about it : it's them who make us more careful by always worrying, she might not ban riding, but she will always keep you on your toes so to speak, and next junction you meet at amber light, you'll stop haha..

I gave up crossing the junctions at amber light. Way too dangerous. Junctions for me are my number one spider senses activator, even more than cabs! Mostly because of the drum brake that takes time to bite, I can't count on the e-break, you were indeed very lucky to not meet the car in the middle of its side !

@aikamai, jacket and knee/shin guards for you, skidding is pretty common, one can walk away from it without any injury if wearing the right gear. How much is the bike damage? Hope you recover quickly without too many bruises :/

@robbedzombie, the car turned in the junction or before the junction, a car coming to the junction like you on another lane decided to swerve into your own lane and stop?

Good reaction and thank God you were able to avoid it. How come you didn't notice it coming to your lane?

Gear up and ride slower please!

Today while pillioning, going down Bukit timah road to clementi road, this car suddenly decides to swerve from the lane it was waiting to turn left, to go straight by swerving into my lane. I wasn't going fast and I had a hunch from far maybe because the driver turned the wheel a bit I don't know, closed my throttle the same time it swerved. Had time to slow down and let it finish it's trajectory into my lane but I horned the Hella-out my horns (lame pun hard to resist).

Being on a straight empty road or lane doesn't mean some moron isn't gonna pull a fast one on us.. Let's just assume the most impossible scenarios and ride like on a mine field, the more I ride the more I realise this is true.

Gear up, slow down, expect something fishy from every road user!

Thanks Oren. This rule about green light can go straight and the opposite side also green light can turn right is really very very dangerous. Most junctions that are exactly straight roads on either sides and you can see the opposite side cars trying to turn, from a long distance, is still fine.

But the junction that had accident is this somapah road and changi south ave 1

The road I was coming from is a curve and hence until I reach the junction cannot see the cars trying to turn right as there were lots of cars on my right, trying to turn to their right(I was in the center lane). Its a bad habit that I developed that if it is green then I can cross(which I realise now I should stop). Even though in my case it was turning from green to amber, I feel this accident could have happened even if it was green only because the cars on the other side cannot see me and they will try to turn thinking no vehicles are coming as the road is a curve and its very tough for them to spot a motorcycle coming at a high speed.

So the message is you may get away with bad habits in normal situations but in extraordinary circumstances they can be really dangerous.

Rev, yeah I see what you mean. I went for a Hazard Oriented Vision session organised by a member of SBF here. That was a few weeks after I started riding and it's there that I learned about the dangers of the scenario you are describing. And after that I sadly could verify quickly that indeed people turning into the junction barely check anything and will not inch to look beyond the first lane blocking their view.

Since that HOV session, I never cross a junction using the outmost lanes. If there's a turn right and left from the road I'm on, I ride in the middle and slow down until I can see the opposite turning cars not moving. If there's only a turn right allowed, I ride in the outmost left lane and vice versa.

Countless times I either had to brake to let a car who was turning in pass, because they didn't see me.

It happens a lot too when you are behind a big vehicle or a at is behind a big vehicle and doesn't care to check what's going on "outside" the view blocked by the big truck or bus.

Agree with MJ, flashing your lights an or Horning works especially if you think you are going too fat or is too late to slow down. The horn is the most efficient as usually when heard drivers tend to freeze..

Yuh ive experience on junctions even though it was on green, dear taxi drivers just love to right left from the opp side without any due care of the straight traffic, sometimes i even slowed down even more before approaching the junction and flash my high bean repeteadly then they will be more hesitant to turn.

my worse case scenario is whentheres this JB van from the opp side of the road turning left and SUDDENLY he STOPPED in the middle of the junction seems he cant make his mind to do u turn or turn right ):

Just wanted to share what has happened to my pulsar.

One day while riding to bugis, i see my voltmeter was at 9volts when i not moving at traffic lights. Battery indicator was blinking. Must just kept on riding. After stopping my bike, off-ed ignition, turned on ignition straight away, the digital meter did not even light up. Electric start was impossible. Had to push start for two days thinking that it was a change of battery i needed. Went to malaysia to diagnose bike problems. Found out was just a simple fuse blown. Replaced it for 3rm. Asked the guy why fuse will blow. The guy said the fuse is like a lightbulb. The fuse want to blow, it will blow. That's what he said. Lol. Changed rear tyre to new duro tyres for 140rm! That's all folks!

Guys & Gals, it seems that too many close call being reported. Ride safe , be safe & you'll be safe.

1) ALWAYS be careful when crossing junctions. By slowing down or giving way will only take us a mere few seconds but will prolong our LIVEs longer.

2) We as motorcyclists, are most prone to injuries whether we hit other vehicles OR vice versa.

3) As recommended, do have some form of protective gears on thyself. $ spend on protective gears will save thy skin.

4) Speaking from experience, yes it's too cumbersome to place all the jackets/gloves... if you don't have a rear box/case. So as to accommodate all this........ my PELICAN0...hahaha. ( Speed will say @ikeA- warkahakahakaha)

Ride slow slow. Getting old already..................

ok so very similar case to what happened to Revhappy..

Hey guys if you meet these drivers who don't check and anyhow turn, horn them until your left thumb goes numb. So they will remember it for a while.. if they didn't care to learn from the school, maybe they will learn if enough people horn at them. People know motorcycles never horn for no reason when riding normally, if a bike horns for a long time, you know his heart almost stopped..

This thing can be done only in SG though. Other countries like US, UK or Australia, I would be worried if some gangster comes out of the car with a gun
