Lol, so StrongBow and Yhang are same person? Didnt know until now.

Anyways since I am the IT guy behind the computer :cheeky:, let me give you a tip to search

Go to Google and type in the search phrase followed by site:singaporebikes.com

For eg type in:

Spark Plugs Pulsar site:singaporebikes.com

You can go one step further and actually type in the nick of the person who you think might have posted(my fav mjbs64 :cheeky:)

Spark Plugs mjbs64 site:singaporebikes.com

See how specific results you get.

The sad thing about the way labour is charged for overhaul is like change 1 part also 200$ change all parts also is 200$. Thats the reason I sourced engine parts from India for cheap, so that if they ever need to open the engine, might as well change all parts and get a new engine :thumb:

Just searched this thread @Stylo has overhaul pulsar in JB, Wish he could share info on which shop

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-188463-p-117.html?

seriously if you have the parts on hands .. check with Nemesis to get AhHeng contact no n workshop in JB ... he is no 1 mech for pulsar during his days at UM .. he opened his own buisness but his workshop quite far though and he didn't bring in pulsar parts .. so choice is yours lah ... looking at stylo posted .. he is like atipo style .. likes to diy .. so its lucky for him dat no major parts need to change but happened it does i believed his bike will stay longer than at UM ... ask Gaban about this .. even at one occasion he need to wait for a couple of days/week for his parts to arrive from India through UM ... so its just pure luck n gamble if u wanna do outside unless you have the parts all ready to do ... and if for me n my work, i dont have that time to wait so take care and maintain according to schedules and betetr to have a routine check up rather than too late too know the sickness has already spread ... ;)

I was under the impression our members prefer SBF.

Agree with what Rev said: it's actually pretty normal this quote. Please do share which shop your parents patron so we can try them, because if they get full overhaul of a bike like Pulsar for less than $500, I want to know where it is :thumb:

Another thing, $538 for full overhaul is actually a good price. Remember that the mechanic can't plan in advance what he will find out in the engine: it is very likely that when he opens he notices that some other parts, not listed in the quote you were given, also need to be changed. In the end you can always ask them to stick to what was quoted, but you'll also realize that since you pay labor to open the whole thing, might as well do it fully and change everything that needs to be changed. So the $538 can become a bit more depending on the state of the bike.

It's simply the way it is with 2nd hand bikes..

Oh and can you please tell us how much are the connecting rod and piston ?

And usually, people who plan to sell their bikes, they don't bother maintaining it for the last 6 months at least. They think, why would I pour money in it if I'm gonna get rid of it ?

Me I hope to switch to 200NS in a couple of month God willing, but until the very last day, I will maintain it and change anything so the next rider has pain free enjoyment of his bike.

But very few people think like that so when the mech overhauls the bike, sometimes it's the first time ever it is done on the bike and you have to pay for all the time the bike was not looked after properly like what MJ said.

Very well put, a perfect example of a badly maintained bike in my current pulsar. The previous owner had screwed it like hell, I have changed almost everything that can be changed, haha. But then I got it really cheap, $1250. I have spent about another 1000$ on it. So my cost is about 2300$. Not bad actually. Now the bike is almost perfect, except for the imperceptible cam chain noise.

The most important thing is the price at which you buy, you need to take into account everything that needs to be done on it. A very well maintained bike would command about 2.8-3k but even then I would have had to spend atleast 200$ upon buying atleast to change tyres and chain sprockets. Till now most of the bikes I bought these parts had to be changed right away and then ofcourse the air filter and spark plugs too.

The advantage of buying badly maintained bikes for cheap is that then you get all the joy of doing it up and the fact that you know you have changed the parts gives you the peace of mind :) You also learn a lot out of it. Until now I didn't know what a magneto is, lol. And, since I dont like spending on raccuns, this is the only way of being involved with bikes :)

thats very true. i too have sourced this bike for cheap and even the mech and reseller guy told me "aiyah take this bike cheap cheap and then you overhaul yourself" i cannot tell how cheap but its extremely cheap. sad to know whrn the engine start. the knuckling sound was the downside i can 100% sure the paintwork is still new. thestock tyres still new. everything also new. even the seat was leathery clean for a 1yr old bike. i overhead from the reseller the previous owner was a dispatch rider and he says these young dispatch riders dont warm up their engine and jist start and go and shoot vroooooooooom everytime thinking its a 2 stroker. but then i find back that the overhaul was worth it as its like im getting a new bike with a good overhailed engine that will hope to last me another 3-5 years hopefully.

another thing is buying stock and built up our bike we got this sense of commitment and more OWN of the bike. hehe! btw whats layout or lay up i dunno but ah teck told me he need to do that when changing the piston and the con rod. ITS A FBE 913.
