Where are you going touring ? MY ? If anywhere outside the highway, you won't even hit 110 as a cruising speed..

If on the highway and you never been there, I suggest you stay at 100km/h max, to give you room to breath when overtaking and staying in control. Even at 95km/h if your bike doesn't have the power a well maintained Pulsar has.

You need at least 20km/h of spare speed to overtake some super long trucks, and other morons who think that someone overtaking them means it's time to accelerate.

Don't over pump your tyres : you'll be riding fast for long, so the tyre will get hot, if you're not pillioning, no need to pump them too much.

If you are pillioning: don't. Leave your pillion at home. You'll take her/him another time, when you are a bit more experienced, it's safer. If you must take a pillion, you have to chill on the throttle because your stopping distance will increase, especially on the highway where drivers tend to do stupid things unexpectedly.

And if this is the first time you will ride 600km trip, stop every 150km or 2h max (recommended 1h30 if new to this). Take your time at breaks, to stretch, to relax, to drink a lot. The more you rest, the more your bike rests. The more it does, the longer it will perform.

My 2 cents about touring : do not go with anything else than 200cc or less bikes. Unless the 400cc bikers are people you know, who know your riding style and know the Pulsar well. Otherwise, there's bound to be situations where they will not understand your speed and will have expectations you can;t deliver or you will want to deliver by pushing yourself and the bike where you do not want to go. So do take the time to have clear riding principles with them : their 110km/h is not yours...

Also, @Pulser, please don't say false neutral is a common problem on Pulsars. I have never encountered a false neutral, I've been riding mine for 2 years + in all sorts of environments. False neutral can happen on any type of bike.. And kicking a gear up or down is not the solution: getting the bike to a mech to check it is the solution. Either the clutch cable needs to be changed, or it would be good to look at the clutch gears and plates.

Nice article about tuning carb, in simple terms.

http://bikeadvice.in/tuning-carburetor-optimal-performance-fuel-efficiency/

Spent the last couple of hours trying to tune mine and found that 3 and half turn-outs, is perfect for my bike with no fluctuation in RPM. Actually the setting before I started doing the tuning was also the same 3 and half turns, haha. I found that making the afr richer(about 4 turn-outs) makes the bike feel really smooth, absolutely quite idling and smooth power delivery. And 3 turns or lesser(leaner) makes the bike feel harsher

From what I know, Carb is old school and FI is new school, so it may appear that FI is better. But let me also share with you that Bajaj first launched the Pulsar 220 in India as a Fuel Injected bike. Being fuel injected the cost of the bike was higher and almost same as R15 and although with FI it was new school, its top speed was lower than Yamaha R15. So Yamaha R15 got the tag of the "Fastest Indian".

Bajaj then decided, no point of being new school if the performance isn't there, so it decided to put the Mikuni BS 32 carb on the P220, the largest carb ever on an Indian motorcycle and in one stroke it reduced the price of the bike as well as it was able to achieve higher top speed than R15. :)

So you decide which one is better, FI or Carb :cheeky:

Here's a nice article that basically puts to rest the FI vs Carb debate :)

guys anyone know how much to tune carb? my bike keeps backfiring when close throttle, any bikeshop can do it right?

Check with UM, 18$ I think. Is your RPM stable? Any other issues? If no other issues other than back firing when closing throttle, then dont worry. I read somewhere that some bikes, when you close the throttle suddenly it creates a lean condition which causes backfiring, so its normal.

bike when idling at traffic light will go up to 2.5 rpm from the normal 2rpm idling though :(

My carb is My idle is 1.5K at normal Temp. IS THAT TOO LOW ?o_O

Never hiccuped unless its not warmed up yet.

Even when starting, i dont need to throttle and 0.5-1 seconds of starter is enough.

Idles very stable, smooth and abit backfiring when late engine brakes.

FC gives me 41 - 42 Kmpl:cheeky:
