Appreciate the link jamez, have seen that too.

If you notice, lab offers half-caps, but not head-hugging hard skull caps that you see harley riders spotting on the roads.

I'm curious as to where they get them locally.

Hi Mak,

I bought a Harley and never looked back. Was contemplating whether to buy a Shadow 600 or a Harley as i have ridden a Shadow 600 in Thailand before.... just need to find more time, to ride it more often.

My first class 2 bike.... Harley Davidson.... Cast a wicked shadow.... :thumb:

Harley Davidson is not just a bike, it's a lifestyle......

ever considering a used Harley?

Think carefully which Sportster u wanna buy, and try not to compromise, like as in u like the L but itz out of stock so u get the R..in this case still not so much of a difference, but u may end up spending a bit more to get wat u really want. As for bringing u around to the showroom...soru can't help...hehe cos I'm not really close with the sales there either.... take your time in finding the right ride for urself. Don't like me buy Sportster liao then gian BT... :cheeky:

normal motordiam would give 4% to purchase of new bikes only, second hand bikes from 5% onwards

I going HD later for some accessories, help you to see what year and condition of bike.

Check for leaks...brake calipers(at the brake bleeder valve area)brake lines...check for brake lever tension...leaks at rocker box covers/cylinders/starter motor area/fork...check for brake disc integrity(run out/warp?)check oil tank area for leaks/cracks(05-06 models are plastic)...missing bolts and nuts everywhere...small cracks at belt...

Insurance should not cost more then $900 for fire and theft from NTUC...mine is a 98 XL1200S and fire and theft costs that much...so if ur getting a newer one then should be less bah...

May I be blunt? No offense ah. Just feeling that mood. heee

1. Call various insurance companies to check. Get them to quote. Quotations are free. No obligations.

2. Comfort speed = Bike's speed ability and your own speed ability. Some can do 80km/h, some 220km/h, some 300km/h (whoa!) It's really up to you and your bike.

3. Standard check for all bikes. The make of bikes are generally the same.

4. Prob = How well you maintain.

To not be so blunt, since I'm in the mood to yak too. :p

1. Insurance depends on a few factors. Brand and model of bikes, level of insurance (3rd, TPFT, Comprehensive, Age). Bikes like kups and super 4 though common but insurance is high cos of too many accident rates and too many bikes. Bikes like BMWs and Harleys for examples may be cheaper cos not as many on road and comparatively not as much accident. It's a matter of maths.

Different companies have their own coverage and rates. But go for someone you're comfortable with. I've tried some that even though are cheap, takes like 6 months t o return my excess when I canceled it and has even lost my form before and thus not able to get any returns (few hundred bucks gone just like that). End up I just go for one that's convenient and excellent customer service.

Also different age got different premium. I can quote you a really low rate but I'm older, or a really high one but I'm very young, so it won't be a good guide.

2. I guess the question is what's the bike's top speed and comfort speed. Again, up to one's self. If you give me a Haya I'd prob still ride at 120-140 km/h all the way. hee. Do note for sporties, the 883 as compared to the 1200, the power and speed difference is huge. Also, factors like windshield, wind blast etc should be taken note of.

3. Do the standard routine checks whenever you're taking over a bike cos you won't know the history as well as if you do your own maintenance. Standard stuff applies, brakes, oils, filters, fluids, fluid leakages, weird noises, suspicious looking scratches etc applies. Prob for Harleys, one thing you don't need to check is rear sprocket and chain tension, but you'll have to check belt tension instead.

4. Parts for bikes like Harleys and BMWs and Truimphs etc sure ex one cos they are..what's that word...boutique? Or something like that. But then, parts for a Super 4 isn't that cheap either. Just that they're more accessible as compared to having to ship them directly from overseas. For Harley's, by my personal opinion, it won't have as much faults as say, a BMW (sorry guys, but I still love the GS :p). Won't have a $500 sensor spoil just cause the weather is slightly damp. But your pipes, fuel cap and anything bolt on might drop out due to vibrations. Hurr. Once it hits the ground while going 140km/h, Pocket also will hurt.

Very broke so this is my 1 cent worth :cheeky:

Oh, and if you really like the bike, you'll go out of the way to find out info everywhere. The net is a vast never ending galaxy of resources. Don't go for cool, go for passion. \m/

It'll take time to get use to any new/different bike you ride. So best advise is to just ride till you're comfortable with the handling etc. But that doesn't stop there. Don't EVER think you're very skillful or experience in riding or handling your bike. That's just dangerous. For me, even after riding for so long, I still learn something new everyday.
