Illegal Pipe Modification

There are loads of bikes running around with decat exhaust. And I'm sure they pass their inspection too.

 

There are differing limits for new vs. used exhaust sound level from what I gather from the bike inspector. Used exhaust have a higher allowable noise level as expected when insulation wear out. I guess the same might be the case for emissions.

Harley Davidson with their deafening sound are acceptable compared to the other illegal pipes. Harley Davidson paid enough money to LTA for their product patent to be legalize in our road usage while our illegal and aftermarket pipes manufacturers does not.

I just want to clarify some issues with full systems. Seems that full systems regardless of it being legal or illegal, is not allowed for bikes anymore?

If it's true then how can bikes shops be even selling full systems? I'm not sure of this "new" law but just want to clarify them. Thank you guys.

as long as inspected /lta approval and with certs . they are allowed..

Yeah i heard the same thing too. I think its better if we clarify with the authorities ourselves. Clear the air a little bit.

Visit LTA website. Its obvious that those pipes are still legal. If our government decided to make it illegal then I will vote for the party which makes it legal.

As long it a street legal full system with proper certificate, it is allowed.

But my full booklet is with bike shop, den they only photocopied a few pages of the book, namely front back and the stamps. So LTA say that doesnt prove that the bike is street legal, he say he take some photos go back check if the systems says this is legal. So being quite confident, that the pipes are legal, i waited. 2-3 weeks later i received my letter to go for inspection, saying my bike was reported and ask me to go inspection to see if it is in working condition. Anybody encounter such things before? i scared they will fail my street legal pipes. And anyway, dont have full cert can go for inspection? bikeshop very ma fan sia.. ask me to wait for finance side as they kept it.. I cannot wait already sia.. zzz

Markopolo.. in your post I can't figure if you're asking about your bike or pipe being street legal:

Pardon me if I'm misconstrued what you're trying to ask here.. but if you're asking about your pipe being street lega all along, perhaps I can help.

 

call LTA hotline for more precise info on what paperwork is needed,

what I'm stating below is from what I can recall.

 

Firstly, go to your bike shop (& if they really can't or don't wanna help, go to Gmax)

-get the tech spec(incl. blueprint) of the exhaust

-get the paper that states exhaust is safe to be used for your exact bike model

-get the shop's cert that it has gone through LTA to get this exhaust street legal

-ensure there're bike shop stamps on them

The bike shops in SG charge a fee for these paperwork. 'Admin Fee'. Yes, each new owner of the bike+pipe

will have to pay the admin fee again when they approach the same shop. It's like admin fee for biker, not one time admin fee for bike+pipe. Crap.

 

From there, bring all the paperwork to any Inspection Centre for aftermarket exhaust pipe inspection.

The fee is 70-80 cows. Keep the inspection cert. & bring it along whereever you ride in SG to avoid hassles.

 

Hope this helps and pls share with us if there're changes to the procedures.

From last I know, full systems that shops bring in and got them Street Legalised with LTA will of course, remain street legal.

As for your 2nd statement.. shop can sell non-legal full systems, like they sell non-legal slip-ons, and non-PSB approved helmets, etc etc... under the context 'for export purposes'.

Example, you wanna go tracking in PG... you don't need street legal pipes nor PSB approved arai full face.

They don't care. If first time, just do down to lta and appeal. Will be reduced to $200.

For K7 600, the catz is with the stock end can. So Even if you changed to legal slip on, the catz will be removed. I think only k8 and above catz is with the mid pipe. You can go appeal.

Maybe you can tell us what exhaust pipe you are using now and we can refer you to the right place to buy the correct silencer.

I am a new owner to a 2nd hand FZ16 already fitted with Yoshi full system.

Should I bring this bike back for inspection?

The issue is, this is a 2nd hand bike with a NEW issued number plate already fitted with a street legal full system Yoshimura (by previous owner) registered under the old number.

Bro, LTA can't even tell stock pipe from modified pipe, if stock loud = inspection. If it makes ur life difficult for nothing its not like they get penalised. That's the sort of quality u can expect from the LTA, SG is a terrible place to ride, ride kup better.
