Hi

I'm about to buy a old VFR but not sure what are the stuff to check on one? Say a Vtec 02 ?

Maybe i can start off by compiling a checklist and perhaps bros here can chip in to expand it further to make it more comprehensive and correct me if i'm wrong. noob here bro. I'll leave the supeficial things out but perhaps should concentrate more on the VFR specialised checks eg valve clearance blah blah blah.

R/R (Ensure not melted)

Battery (Bike cranks at 1 go)

Valves (Shouldnt be any crazy ticking sound)

Cam Chain Tensioner (Shouldn't be any crazy ticking sound)

Mods to note would be:

Pair Removal

Airbox Snorkel Removal

Air Filter

Radiator in good order

330 Ohm 02 Sensor replacement

New and more dependable R/R

Fan for R/R

ECU re-map with pc3 or other piggybacks to smoothen the ride

Dude,

I think one of the bros here is letting go his 2007 VFR. You might want to consider that instead cos after 2006, there were changes to the VTEC engagement/disengagement point, meaning smoother transition from 2 to 4 valves.... The only thing you'll notice is the exhaust tone which turns into a screaming banshee....

From the things you've mentioned, it would be prudent for you to also look at the engine cover and lower forks for any signs of crashes or spills. Aside from that, the bikes peachy....

Hi

You have done your homework well.

Extra things to take note:

R/R (Ensure not melted) Check wirings and connectors, see if burent smell or melted connectors

Battery (Bike cranks at 1 go) Use a muti-meter to check,14.3~14.5V @ 5000rpm is normal

Valves (Shouldnt be any crazy ticking sound)

Cam Chain Tensioner (Shouldn't be any crazy ticking sound) Mine was changed after 2000km plus as the former owner just serviced the CCT,he did not replace it.

Mods to note would be:

Pair Removal Haven did that

Airbox Snorkel Removal Done

Air Filter Done.K&N.

Radiator in good order

330 Ohm 02 Sensor replacement Done.DIY

New and more dependable R/R

Fan for R/R

ECU re-map with pc3 or other piggybacks to smoothen the ride Next on my list

Past rides are already history....

Current ride: FW VFR 800 ABS

actually i didnt mind getting the 07 VFR but its the reloan procedure that is making it hard to buy.

Now the financial institutions are making me down almost 50% for the loan to proceed which i would rather settle with full cash. Oh well.....

Credit crunch, eh??? So now all financial institutions have adopted the 50% down????

But I believe the individual shops who are independent financiers will still be lenient. Should be about $2000 down. Have you tried Bike Production???

YAY!!! I'm a proud owner of a VFR but without a licence haha. I brought it out for a spin and it was great!! Power delivery, handling and braking was coool!

But downside, is its freaking heavy when stationery = no backwards peddling and i cant lift it on mainstand haha

Any pointers to lift this heavy thing onto mainstand?

Congrats bro! I bet you'll love your ride even more when you start riding more, when is your TP?

For main stand, the best is a combination of using your body weight, gentle pull back making use of your weight on the main stand pedal and it should pop the bike up. Took me a few tries the first time, but after that, I usually park on mains.

You're gonna love this bike!!

Make sure you use a comfortable shoes and not slippers to put it to main stand and the surface is not slippery. The best if you have pillion to get them to pull back on main just in case. After a while you will get use to it.

Enjoy the ride bro and be safe

Yea tp is on 4th Nov haha but anyway i use riding boots so yea least i'll wear is sandals, nvr ride with slippers.

Hmmm ok shall listen to ur advice, use body step onto the mainstand and pull to the right. But then again, i'm not that "big" physically haha i'm only 1.65 and 60kg man, this beast is heavy man.

Anybody mounted topboxes on this bike before? I saw a red one today, with top box hahaha, but it zoomed past pretty fast so didnt managed to see if it looks ok.

Hi Viffers,

Been searching for a VFR for awhile now, but its really hard to come by.

I understand that there is currently 2 for sale in Garage Sales now but I would prefer other options.

Would appreciate if anyone would share any inputs.

Wet weather is here, ride safe guys.

Honestly, it should be cheaper if you get it from the forumers here cos the price is usually cheaper that those on display at the bike shops. Only hassles are to reloan if the vehicle is still under hire purchase and possibility of spills/crashes even if the vehicle has been around for less than a year.

However, another option is to get a brand new one. Honda has announced that the only changes (State-side at least) to the 2009 VFR is the paintwork. So no worries about a re-vamped VFR being released after you're gotten yours. Also, you're assured of getting spare parts until 2019, at least....Hahahahaha!!

A brand new Viffer should cost you around 20500 - 21500 OTR (depending on insurance).

I've went to Ubi industrial to look for a 2nd hand VFR but NONE was found!

However, everyone is offering me 1st hand machines at 21k-22K OTR.

Pre-owned is a good choice as the savings you will get from it is good, provided you find a good previous owner type of bike.

Good luck to you VFFIER shopping.

Yep, I agree with you on the savings I'll have if I get a 2nd hand machine (which is precisely the reason I'm getting 2nd hand). But then again, there is a huge risk involved when u don't know the history behind the kms done on the bike. I've been lucky in my 2nd hand bikes so far... *Fingers crossed*

Thanks BlackBandit and Echelon...

Hope to join u guys soon..

Have you checked at Bike Production? They usually have the cheapest no-bull prices around. It's near the junction of Serangoon & Lavender...
