Prices depending on which model you interested. Which model you interested depends on your requirements.

I have proposed the "must have" specifications in a GPS as opposed to "good to have" ; in my earlier posting in page 1.

Also, Pauche has done extensive research on which shop for the cheapest color GPS with memory expansion slots & auto -routing functions ; which is the legend CX model. All these info in page 1 of this thread.

Btw, hows your Pilot III - is the problem remedied?

My Pilot III i think can throw away already.

I brought it to a Garmin dealer (company's name TPA) and the technician said can throw away already bcoz he can't fix it and he said its a waste of money to ship it to OEM to rectify it.

I thinking of bringing it to O Connors.

What do u guys think?

malsingmaps are having a gathering on 10 sept, which unfortunately for most of us, is on a motogp weekend.

mika14:

if u thinking of 2nd hand gps, a couple of malsingmaps members are unloading their gps, most of them are upgrading to the new X chip. prices are very reasonable.

cheapest so far is st electronics, but must wait for 1 month. rest of the places, prices are competitive, esp those shops in sim lim.

Dun see any benefit in giving demo to those who dun own a GPS. Might as well ask the Sim lim shop to demo. Its only a 5 minute thing to explain. After explaining, you probably wouldn't remember how to use it, unless you have it to play with occasionally.

But to demo to those who already own a GPS & jumpstart the learning curve so much that they can immediately use it - that's more valuable. Because a 15min demo will save you hours of experimenting yourself.

The valuable benefits of meeting a group of GPS enthusiast (Malsings especially) is they might possess Garmin Maps CDroms. We can swap the Garmin CDroms on the spot (otherwise my laptop got CDwriter). Apart from this, I dun see what value in joining such meetings. I foresee they discuss such things - my GPS got such features...how about yours? Where did you buy the mounting from? etc etc

Other benefits for the newbies maybe to directly transfer my Garmin Europe & Australia detailed maps directly from my laptop to each others' GPS devices. Then from your GPS transfer back to your laptop 's Mapsource software & save it. But thats provided your GPS has a 1 Gigabyte expansion memory card.

hi guys a bit off topic but i have a pda XDA2s wanted to install GPS but dont know can a not n the cost os it .........so that it can help me to travel also ..... :cheeky:

The Comex PC Show at expo center sure got sell the blue tooth GPS sensor for your PocketPC or Windows Mobile Operating System. I remember last year, the Maps & GPS sensor cost 300+ You might want to check out the latest pricing.

But apart from Malaysia & Spore maps, I doubt you can get other countries map free of charge. If that's the case , it has limited use for travelling.

--------------------------

The Comex show probably sell cheaper 1 GB microSD card for GPS devices also...but must make sure it comes with the microSD card adapter or reader.

alamak - You talk like that make me very difficult. If I teach you my Legend CX but later you buy your >1K GPS , then you also wouldn't know how to use. So what's the point? :giddy:

If you wanted field demo then should have join my Pengerang day trip last Saturday. Many people see it also want to buy. But you can get same demo from shop also.

The reason why I say must buy your own GPS device before I can teach is because I will teach the tough part - preparing & saving all the destinations coordinates into the GPS & creating routes for the Auto-routing function. There are many steps involved , if you don't hands on immediately , you will forget after 2 days later. Then you may takes many hours or days to figure out yourself. That's why I say you need to own a GPS first.

Why don't you organise a mass purchase for GPS devices somewhere next month? Then I will organise a training session immediately - so the GPS owners can have all my Garmin & Malsing maps transfer from my laptop into your GPS devices & learn how to use it instantly?
