hey Demon GPs Guru, i spoke to a few ppl about TiBO GPS and was told they only have Spore, Msia, Thailand and Indonesia maps available.

Even if u you would like to purchase other country maps, they are no available?

True?

So nothing else works for it other than their dedicated ones?

C'mon, don't malau me, the GPS gurus are all the mappers in MSM, and MFM.

Tibo is using Teleatlas maps, and Teleatlas is a global map supplier. I am very sure they have maps for all countries

Yes.

If there are no hobbyist groups like MSM, and MFM, we will be at the mercy of Mapsource NT maps. Because Garmin has long established itself as a hobbyist GPS, there are probably free garmin maps for every country.

Hi Rajeh, the left hand side of the charging bracket for Zumo, there's 2 input labelled 'microphone' and 'audio out', where could i get these accessories? could i just buy those normal jack in types from the computer shops?

hmmmm..........and so Ive been misinformed by a couple of their tibo sales staff at the fair. i was pretty shocked to hear that there are no available maps outside of spore/msia/thailand/indonesia even if i would like to purchase one.

looks like garmin is one to get after all:dot:

Need help, i had Singapore/Malaysia City Navigator NT v2.72, tried to use MapSource to upload the maps to my Zumo500, but it pop out a funny error, please refer to picture. However, no problem with MSM or MFM. Anyone know how to solve it?

are you using legal copy?

jus got my oregon 300 few week ago...

super good.... easy to use... but user interface diff from my old hcx, so have to learn from start again...

I just got an Oregon 300 too. I agree that it's a breeze to use. This is my first GPS but its so easy to use and intuitive that I figured it out within the first hour of fiddling. Came home to read the manual and realised I didn't have to... :)

Bought it from Sim Lim Tower together with a Garmin mount. Will post pics later.

thanks, Zumo was really WOW! Great! Indeed having a lot of pleasure using it, listening to music while riding, phone ring and i'll just use the hands-free answering mode, no hassle at all:thumb:

i actually 'passby' Perfect Watch to ask Ms Chang, she took the trouble to explain to me about the 'Audio Out' and 'Microphone' usage, *so paiseh...*

We could just buy any jack in cable for the 2 ports, just like the label imples, 'Audio Out' for you to listen to any audio from Zumo, 'Microphone' mainly use for answering phone calls. But most riders won't do that because there will be too many wires here and there, just use the bluetooth wireless connection which is better.

Any way, there's some 'lag' in my bluetooth connection with my phone and earpiece.... do you have the same issue? When i speak, the other party will hear a 1-2 seconds delay....

The Oregon 300 cost $790. Bracket is $25.

Mounting the Oregon 300-

because my bike doesnt have a tubular bar for my mirror, and no handlebars, only clip-ons with no room on them, I decided to mount the unit onto my yoke instead.

hey, isn't the unit waterproof? wouldn't that make it difficult to see?

Hi lacrimosae,

ur Oregon looks superb..so tell me how long is the usage time before it runs dry?

also the charging unit,is it like normal charger or also have the ciggy sockets as well?

Lastly,is it memory card enabled?

Sorry for the many questions..at $790 for an Oregon is really good price.

furthermore its waterproof.

Fire away, it's ok. :)

So far, 22hrs on a mid/low brightness setting. On full brightness, about 16hrs. Manufacturer specified 25hrs - probably on the lowest screen brightness setting.

It does not have a charging unit because it runs on AA batteries. I specifically chose to purchase this model because of this feature. Firstly, my bike is a small cc bike (125), and its small battery is unable to support any charging attachments of any kind. Secondly, I feel more secure knowing that if I run out of power, I can easily replace the power unit instead of having to search for power socket/plugs etc. Normal alkaline AA batteries can be bought even in fairly backward areas/towns.

Memory card enabled, yes if you mean micro-SD card. I've got a 1GB micro-SD card with Sing/M'sia maps inside. The Oregon 300 already has worldwide map preloaded in the unit but it's a basic map, no detailed city/street maps.

Yes, it's already waterproof - tested by me... Submerged in a bowl of water for 10min (Rated at 1metre for 30min by manufacturer) but I kiasu, even waterproof also must have extra protection, hence the ugly plastic cover. :cheeky:

Actually my plastic bag is quite clear so it doesn't affect the viewing much, nor does it impede usage. Despite having 3 layers on - a screen protector, the clear plastic cover, and riding gloves, the touch-screen is still very sensitive and accurate. Not as awesome as an i-Phone but can closely rival it.

Considering it's US$499 which is about S$750 and probably S$830 including shipping, I'd say at S$790 its really worth it. Water-proof, touch-screen, ease-of-use (figured all the functions out within 1 hour without manual), easily available/replaceable power source, 1-yr warranty, long battery life.

Ok, there's a downside. There is no speech alert to tell you to turn left/right. It only BEEPS. Does not have an Audio Out jack as well. All this unit has is a mini USB jack.

Perfect Watch in Sim Lim Square sells it cheaper at $774 ($860 retail price with 10% discount). I went to Sim Lim Tower to check the price at another retailer (Hoan Enterprise #01-16 SLT) and ended up buying from them because difference not that much and they were quite nice. (Perfect Watch owners also very nice pple, but I lazy to walk back to SLS).

I highly recommend this unit, but no recommendation on choice of retailer because at the end of the day that is quite personal. I would have bought from Perfect Watch if I didn't walk over to SLT. We buy from people who treat us nice lah... :cheeky:

Totally agree wif u bro..im also in for AA batteries to be put in GPS and avoid the hassle of charging in case it runs dry. Can always keep an extra alkaline battery pack with u all the time also.

currently using a Garmin Quest but prob is it only has internal memory and as u know its very limited. 110mb only so can upload S'pore and M'sia maps.

While wif SDcard,i can upload all maps incld the Laos and Cambodia maps as well.

I heard abt the Oregon 300 before but didn't know whos using it..

at 22 hrs plus touchscreen feature, personally i find it very useful to tourers like myself. And must be easy to use also..

the Garmin Zumo also a touchsreen but can only last 5-6 hrs only. but also has all the necessary features like the Oregon.

tats y in contemplating between these 2. So i have decided to list the Oregon 300 on my shoping list.

Thanks for the info bro.. Appreciate it!

No prob bro! But I just updated my post to include the downside:

No speech alerts. Unlike the Zumo, which has audio cues to tell u to turn left/right, the Oregon only beeps. Its loud indoors, but outdoors, not very audible, not to mention when riding it will be inaudible over the wind noise.

It would be good to try out the working set at either retailer before purchasing. If you're interested to try mine out can PM me and arrange for lunch or something.

Cheers!

Well, audio cues is nothing compared to batt life..i prefer to look at the direction than a voice telling me when to turn (except MP3 music lah).

the GPS will clearly state how far more are u before ur next turn rite..

I believe thats good enuf for me.

Wat im looking for is long lasting usage, waterproof and moderately durable.

and of coz that comes in memory slots enabled and uses alkaline batteries.

Lawrence, why not get a aqua box from ram mount online.

it comes with life time warranty and is supposed to be water tight.

Well........ It's really nice but I'd be hard-pressed to justify getting a lifetime-warrantied waterproof case for my already waterproof Oregon.

I'll KIV it and will likely get it when I have some spare cash (albeit unlikely).

Thanks for the suggestion though!

meet up soon! i would like to see u give a demo of your gps, intending to make a purchase this wkend.

looking at something both for car and bike use

waterproof, AA batteries would be a big plus if not replaceable rechargeables would be essential.

an advantage car gps has is that its a lot cheaper and comes with at least a 4" touch screen.

so many models to choose from........o_O

The display is still viewable. Tried it in the light rain yesterday, the water droplets over the cover causes refractions but just a quick wipe and its ok. I think after a while I may get fed up and just travel without the plastic bag. haha
