In the manual it very clearly says,

1/ Change oil + filter at 1000km (1 month) + check all the nuts+ bolts tension on engine

2/ Change oil at 6000 km (5 months)

3/ Change oil + filters at 12000 km (12 months)

4/ Change oil at 18000km (or 18 months)

5/ etc, etc

Then need to check brake pad wear, etc etc etc.

It's all there black and white in the manual

So all this free service at 800, 1600, etc etc etc is Bull. Cos the manual written by Mr Suzuki says otherwise.

Even the agent who guarentee the f'king bike cannot tension the drive chain properly, and put 10W-50 instead of what is recommended by the manufacturer 10W-40l.

Sorry - but from time to time I think us bikers kena ripped off.

i thought this oil change thing is quite subjective.. as in.. if you feel rich... you can change at every 100km if you like... not challenging you though.... just that the more frequent the oil change the better it is for the engine? or are there side effects of that? other than that... care to enlighten what is the difference between 10W50 and 10W40 engine oil? i intend to get my own engine oil for the next oil change... which is 1100 km away... thinking of getting maxima

for those not so mathematically inclined, basically it's about oil change every 5000km...

Look through your hand book, Mr Suzuki clearly states what engine oil is recommended (sorry my handbook is at the bottom of a box somewhere under all my wife's collection of shoes, so I cannot locate it so easily.

Can change oil every 100km, but that is like $40 per 100km, rather expensive on running costs and not been environmental friendly.

10W-30, 10W-40, 10W50 corresponds to the oil viscosity at freezing point (10) and normal engine running temperature (30, 40 or 50). Can check OIL for more details

ok based on the manual it did state 10W40 is recommended... the engine oil will function under the temp range of -20 degrees celcius to 40 degree celcius under the same category, 10W-50 engine oil also provide such function... they stated if we can't get 10W-40, get an alternative, which is 10W50 instead. however, do try to avoid 10W-30 or 15W-40 or 15W-50 or 20W-50 as their temp range is totally different from the recommended one..

thanks for the link chris :thumb:

yea.. and it's not feasible to change oil every 100km.. please don't try.... you'll find yourself changing oil and oil filter everyday! unless you use the bike for track day only...

ohh and chris.. it might be advisable to use 10W-50 for the first 2 oil change.. since the engine parts are still pretty new.. it needs a nice good coat of oil... i feel it's only advisable to use 10W-40 on the 3rd oil change.

Maybe wrong place to post.

I am thinkiing to convert my motard to off road use, since cannot buy new off-road 400cc bike anymore unless it is a KTM, then a KTM is too expensive.

For the DRZ, need to change the forks cos the front disk is way too big, so this is an expensive option..

But I was looking at the XR4 SM. The front disk is not that big. the frame looks sturdy enough.

Still has an air-colled engine.

And my opinion nlooks a bit shitty in its SM clothiing.

It is bullet proof like the stock of XR's in town.

I also notice the exhaust header, the pipes seem smaller diameter, maybee get a cusstom one made up.

How much is the XR4 SM OTR

Not sure if Ryan posted these same pix regarding removing the PAIR system. Two M5 screws or hex bolts will fit each rubber tubing nicely and acts as a plug as well.

Hi guys,

Asking on behalf of a friend.

Thinking of getting this beauty for his DRZSM. Will this Exhaust Slip on fit??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=4558914469

Re-jetting should be done as well to let the bike run richer. Any recommendations which shop or which mech to approach?

Pls give ur 2 cents worth.

Cheers.... :thumb:

Boonwei > The PAIR (Pulsed Air Injection Reaction??) system is there for emission purposes only and is only found on Euro and Jap DRZs. According to some, what it does is blow air into your exhaust and causes some form of popping or "backfire" on deceleration. Also any sort of aftermarket headers will not fit coz of the tight space due to the PAIR thingy.

How it works...

I think Ryan posted these pix somewhere earlier in this thread but the search function makes it impossible to display matching threads only... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v259/foxracing/Emoticons/excuseme.gif

Jimmy > Yes they are for an S model so they will fit the SM. :thumb: These slipons are loud and much lighter than a S or SM pipe. The bike really feels "free flowing" after installing the Yosh slipon and you can change gears much later @ higher RPM/speeds.

Rejetting should be done but if your friend rides with the stock pipe (daily) more than the Yosh (weekend), my opinion would be not to rejet.
