hi, need advice on scarp this bike,

my current situation is that, my bike is a FU plate and near end of coe

while traveling my engine stall can cannot restart le so decide to scarp it

a workshop at pioneer road north help to check my bike and told me that if repay need at least 1k, so upon hearing that i decide to scrap it, so i ask how do i scrap it,

they told me that just fill in the transfer form for the bike to their shop and they will do it for me, but the thing is when i ask around how much will i be able to take back

he told me that "basically when u scrap is give them(scrap operator) everything" which means i will nt get a single cent back. and when i ask how about the coe, he told me coe FU plate also due cannot get anything also.. i was like WTH!!! so need advice on this.. thanks

FU plate is around 2001-2002 registered. Those days the quota premium used to be like 100$ or 200$, lah. So what do you expect to get back? May be 10-20$, lol.

Your best bet is to remove all the spare parts and sell them seperately. For scraping the bike, I believe you just need to give them the chasis and the engine.

There are lots of Phantoms on the road with FU and FV plate, so we can see lots of phantoms going to the scrapyard, this year and next year. With COE already touching 1.8k I dont think anyone is going to renew their COE. Really sad.

Hi Phantom bros,

I'm intending to get a 200cc 2nd hand phantom but I'm new to the world of bike.

After trying to learn as much as possible, and reading on the FAQs / several other threads, I have a dilemma regarding the question of COE.

1) Should I buy a more expensive phantom with 2 years more COE(till May 2013) @ $1.5k, giving me enough time to upgrade and get a 2A license,

[----> this also leads me to the question of will anyone wanna buy my bike with 1year left of COE? or is my only option left is to scrap it?]

or

2) Buy a cheaper phantom at maybe $800-1200 with COE ending (2011-2012) and extend the COE if it expires before I get my 2A license?

Which will be more financially viable? Thanks for the help bros.

i would suggest buy one to let u ride until u can get class 2A then scrap it, now COE is $2k, no point renewing for 2B bike unless your bike is really well-taken care of..

Okay, thank you for advice. Sibei headache sia. Cuz I got no friends(good at bike) to view with me, so I have to use the knowledge from the guides to check the bike I'm viewing tmr haha.

so many jargons and technical stuff. Hope don't become carrot head lol.

yeah, please check thoroughly. best option, pay a reputable shop mechanic to go see bike with you.

then he can certify the bike is good or a lemon.

go alone you might end up getting a shitty bike, or an ok bike with a few small problems(like me).

good luck.

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

I've got my phantom TA200 at 1.8k (plus insurance, road tax, etc) just this JAN.

some cosmetic wear and tear but the chrome parts are well maintained. Engine & mechanical wise is done up nicely by the shop before handled over to me. COE till Jul 2013.

If my COE going to end, i would not renew but upgrade to Shadow or relevant chopper in Class 2A.

I am starting to enjoy the comfort of riding a chopper but i still missed my old Yamaha 3MA...

Its just me ...

The problem with buying a bike with just 1 or 2 years COE left is that if you are planning to scrap it at the end of the COE expiry, you will always be in a dilemma about maintaining it. Imagine just 1 year left and then suddenly you notice that the there is a problem with the gear box and you need to overhaul and it will cost like 200$. Then you start wondering whether you should do it or not because whatever money you put on the bike you will not recover it back.

That is the toughest part. So If I were to buy a bike with 1 or 2 years COE left, I would buy it thinking that I would renew the COE anyway and then ride it for 3-4 years and then scrap it and get the COE back.

If you want to ride the bike for just 1 or 2 years then better to buy a bike with atleast 4-5 years COE remaining and then sell it off after 1 or 2 years.

hi ppl if i dun renew my coe, jus ride as normal, who will find out???

Everything is digitised here and its all in the LTA system. Everything is interlinked. If you try to renew your bike insurance, they will refuse without COE on the bike. Without insurance you cannot do road tax. Without all these things if you are caught on the road during some routine check, you are dead. Your plate number will easily attract TPs and they can do a check on the spot whether COE is there or not.

My 2 cents, just not worth taking that risk in this "fine" country.
