Yes. There my pal who's a biker. Unfortunately his boss feels bikers are hooligans and does feel that they rash ride and zip between cars putting car drivers at risk. My pal is afraid his pay hike appraisal may be more favourable to sweet babies who come in AC cars :(

Cheers anyways,

:)

Will you still ride to work if your company gives you an extra $1200 transport allowance?

and a petrol fuel charge card of $500 limit?

All these "benefits" are given only if you drive to work.

If you ride, you are on your own. :(

wah.. $1200 allowance?? can pay for wrx installment already sia!!

Unless ur bike got a big box, I feel the best bags are still those backpack style. There's alot of style of bags arround.

I'm a IT professional, thus my bag is always a laptop bag. However, being vain, u will never see me using those old fashion looking Targus laptop backpack.

IF u want a laptop backpack, do check out this brand call mobilegear in South east asia(?) in funan. The price are reasonable. For 80+ buck u can get a stylo, tough and functional laptop back pack. Or u can pay 180+ for the unqiue alienware backpack.

I was initial riding with a normal sling laptop bag. To prevent swinging while riding, I have to adjust it to the shortest possible length and thus make u look stupid. Even the sling is at the shortest length, it still hinders ur riding.

In summary, for riding, a backpack style of bag is still the best way to go.

Or you could use a tank bag or tail bag. This will take the stain off your back and make the ride more enjoyable. Of coz depends on the side of notebook you are carrying also.

I think tank bag is a good option... but it might hamper maneouvarability depending on tank designs. Else you have to make the bike bulky with tour side bags !

Cheers!

For those who ride to work, when it rains, raincoat on n ride?

If already on the road, stop on a side road and put on the rain gear.

If on the highway, get off the highway before putting on the rain gear.

If going home, no problem, everything on and proceed; may wait for a while if rain is very heavy.

If still at home, I'd assess the situation and consider taking the bus to work.

I won't jump into a 10 years loan just to buy that "sports car".

What if you lose the job after awhile? or a few years later?

How are you going to upkeep the car?

The insurance, road tax, petrol fees, installments, maintenance's etc.

Your car won't break-even yet and you will have to find/pay more money just to sell it away.

Call me prudent or "Kia-see", i will like to calculate my finances well, have them sorted out and prepare for rainy days.

Maybe that is just me.

And i am just sharing my opinion here.

Slow down abit, smell the air and enjoy the scenery.

Caught the touring bug once again!

Guys its a free world, you are free to commute to and from work anyway you like, if i lived close enuff to work i would even ride a bicycle (for the exercise and minus the additional pollution to this planet). What i do outside the office is my business and so long it doest affect my work performance it is not open for debate. i knw how it feels cuz i used to ride a cbr 150 and some folks (working colleagues look at me different and even try to take that to their advantage. I stand firm. Now that i have a bigger bike nothing has changed.

I love to ride!!!

Riding to work is cheap (also depends on what bike you ride haha), fast and stylo milo. Some pple ride because they can't afford a car, some pple ride because they don't like driving even though they can afford a sports car. It doesn't mean all riders are poor and lowly educated.

The most irritating thing about riding to work is, pple look at you like you are an alien (with riding jackets, boots, gloves and all). Then they will start asking you stupid questions like: "wow, is it really necessary to wear until like robocop to ride a bike?" or "wah! you going to space or going for war?" or "wow! you gonna get heat stroke!".

But I'm used to it now. Whatever .. it's my own life that I have to protect, I don't need to explain to you why I need to wear safety gear when I ride. Isn't it common sense to protect myself?

Other than that, the other thing is, my clothes get crumbled and I need to tidy my hair when I reach office (which can be quite a chore) haha.

One of my buddies was asked by his boss to get a car shortly after he joined the company. Reason by his boss was for company's image.

After he has purchased the car, then he realized that the primary intention of his boss request was that with the additional financial commitment, one would think twice about changing the job.

HaHa.... is your friend an Insurance Agent?? haha... i've heard that this is a common trick used by insurance managers :deal:

I was in Canberra last month and the great thing is that - there are a lot of bikers over there with a whole range - scooters to big bikes. Apart from the discipline that they excercise personally (such as riding in lane and wearing armored protection [though it was like 38 deg C]) a lot of them had this nice A shaped rack at the backrest where you could slot in your laptop bag and ride off with it. Not seen this in Singapore though.

If I'm taking the lappy home, I'll probably drop it into the tank bag. Padded internally of course.

I guess I would probably fit the "executive" profile. And I ride to work everyday.

Go to the multistory carpark at capitaland building at 1 george street, near OCBC Bank Chulia street.

You will see many high end cars such as porsches there as well as many fancy bikes.

That building houses the fund managers and many lawyers.
