Hi guys....

For the last couple of weeks, I've been real busy getting well....

Well, for starters, I can walk relatively upright without too obvious a limp, minus the crutches. Just a slight twist of my hips and torso... Think anyone who doesnt know about my accident would be none the wiser. I cant wait to get back in cycling races so I tried to run today but got greeted by a tsunami of pain from my spine, pelvis, abdomen, thigh, hamstring, and worst of all, my nuts (which I'm hoping isnt related to hernia). So after 2 steps I was kneeling on the ground praying someone might kill me and take the pain away. Anyway, everything seems positively on the mend and I'm defo going to get well before June is out so I can take part in the OSIM Triathlon.

Just a word of advice.... Err, yeah dont follow my lines. Because I'm a lousy rider.

And Jude exaggerates too much. I'm not crazy, I just prefer finding out certain things by taking calculated risks, rather than standing on the sidelines and talking crap all day.

Also, please ride with proper gear. The very least to start with, ride with a full-faced helmet.

And then something thick for pants and footwear, like jeans and boots. Even jeans cant save your skin in a skid, you'll still lose skin, but I'm thankful for my old school, 5 yr-old full-leather, SAF boots to provide the ankle support and thick hide against abrasion.

For those scrimping on a leather armoured jacket, please try to get a mesh jacket at the very least. Sure, scars are tattoos with better stories, but for those who dont mind getting abrasions, get some protection for your joints and bones.

I was used to getting back into training within a week of sprains and dislocations. But i guess age is finally catching up on me. (And too soon, dammit!) Already have rheumatism in my knees, ankle, and shoulder... Time to ease up on training with injuries.

To cut down on motorbike-related injury downtime, do get that protective gear. Its not about savin your skin, nor saving your bones from breakage. Coz when push comes to shove, ITS ABOUT SAVING YOUR LIFE.

Just my 2cents worth.

Hanif, for whatever its worth, get a goddamn full-faced helmet. I'll bet you wont be stripping down if a nudist snickers at you for wearing clothes, so dont put off a full-face just because someone puts you down for it.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

You tried to run?!?? I promise to give you a good whack for that bit of insanity.

No, you are a crazy rider. Yes, when you're able to ride again you will be taking calculated risks because you'll finally be properly geared up (with some damn happening gear, I must say). But your risk calculator was obviously spoilt in the past cuz you didn't have enough protection then.

As for jeans - there's something a bit ridiculous about being thoroughly armoured from waist up (like me), but only having very-tearable denim jeans from waist down (also like me, haiz). My arms are spotless but my legs are scarred. Ludicrous. I'm still looking for a pair or armoured everyday riding pants that both fits me and suits our weather, and when I finally find it, I'm ditching my jeans.

No, age isn't catching up with you, your insanity is; please see paragraphs 1 and 2.

Hurhurhur, but yes, Hanif, get a goddam full-face helmet already.

Hi everyone,

I will be bringing in some tyres. I can get them much cheaper, although I cant say how much cheaper.

Am considering either:

1) Metzeler Rennsport

Tyre developed for racing oriented riders using race technology for top dry performance on normal road and high satisfaction on the racetrack

* Fast and direct handling for very high performance riding on normal roads, for delayed braking and rapid direction changes

* Compound deriving from racing experience for outstanding grip and very fast warm up: the slick-like behaviour allows fast cornering with very high safety margins

* The 0° steel belt structure provides great degree of control and stability in all conditions, especially when powering out of corners, giving excellent feedback

2) Metzeler Sportec M1

Latest generation of Supersport tyre, developed for high-performance bikes. High-speed safety for a modern riding feeling

* Fast and homogeneous warm-up for outstanding grip, allowing safe, fast riding also in cold weather conditions thanks to the new "Silica-Silan" compound

* Excellent wet behaviour: the tread pattern design ensures great water drainage performance and high contact feeling at all lean angles for maximum grip

* Very homogeneous handling characteristics for fun riding with smooth but fast trajectories thanks to improved easiness in leaning the bike

3) Dunlop D208GP Supersport/Race

* New version of Dunlop's D208GP supersport tire, developed and manufactured in the USA to specifically meet the needs of racers and sport bike riders in the United States.

* Race-tire compound and track-going profile give the all-new D208GP unparalleled grip, excellent drive out of corners, exceptional steering response, and superior on-the-track handling.

* New construction delivers increased bump absorption for a smooth ride and offers a more "forgiving" nature that allows racers to change lines through corners as needed.

* Jointless Band construction in the rear tire yields bolt-on performance right off the shelf with minimal bike setup.

* New D208GP tread pattern is identical to the D208GP national-championship-winning tire and provides maximum footprint area and superior cornering grip.

Retail is about $300-400 depending on which pair, but I can get a better price for any of them. Will be getting them new rubbers by this Sat, 21 May, so those interested, pls confirm by Fri, 20 May.

Thanks.

Yes, this was in the papers a couple of months ago.

The girl was an RVF rider. She's a member of this forum too.

Check the RVF thread and you'll find this incident mentioned in posts dating back about 4-5 mths.

Wow, those tyres are sooo tempting! For me, it'd be a tought fight between the M1 and 208GP, but I'd probably go with the 208GP just to see how the latest and greatest (and most expensive) Dunlops stack up against the niche Dunlop king of the past few years (GPR70). My tyres are still damn new though (since I, like many of us here, changed tyres only recently) so I'll have to pass on this group buying spree.

Ponyboy> Far from rich dude. It's actually cheaper to have one as a spare coz I'm using it for track. Buying parts individually will kill me. All my bikes amount to a grand total or less than my old Z1000 and it's not like I'm "young" like the rest of you. A rich dude would be driving a car and have a Ducati 999 for track days and not give a sh*t about crashing it. I'm trying to keep the cost of my habit to a minimum. =p

Wacko> Still on for PG next Wed morning? Mark and I are gonna try and join you if so. That is if my workload has eased by then.

As for the girl in the accident I'm not aware of the exact details but I believe the girl was the rider and not a pillion. She was riding an SP but I don't know when and where the accident was.

having some problems with starting it now.... it can start when i play with the trottle but even at neutral it dies... he told me to get my clutch wiring fixed but i havent had time to do it yet... and i just changed the battery... cant figure out wat else could be wrong....

Definitely check your clutch cable adjustment. Has your bike been wet (rain, washing) recently? We need more info, like:

Does your bike's starter motor still crank as strongly as before?

When your bike does start, is the idle lumpy/erratic, does the engine note sounds different, is there lots of smoke

How quickly does it die? If you maintain slight throttle will it still die at all?

Have you played with choke settings? Can elaborate on what you've tried?

When's the last time you started the bike?

Why did you have to change the battery? After you changed your battery, did the brightness of the headlight change when you throttled the bike compared to idle (brighter, dimmer)?

Sorry ah, but got petrol or not? Shake bike for sloshing sound; open filler cap, shine torchlight and look.

hey thanks for the help... its the idling... a bit 2 low... was like at 1.1 touching 1... :thumb: but its alright now... now like getting a lot of ideas on the bike.... but unsure of wat first... and now really broke... :pity: just have to wait for next month...
