Hi all,

The Aprilia Riders' Club Forum will be permanently shut down on 25 December Christmas 2008.

The ARC Forum has been a good source of free information on Aprilia bikes for the past 2 years. It has been hosted by our well-intentioned fellow forum member, muser, which he has generously paid for out of his own pocket.

Almost all technical information was contributed to the database either written in part, sourced from the internet, or photographically catalogued by muser, Mike, and myself. Many other users have also contributed greatly to the database.

Due to work our commitments, forum upkeep has become exceedingly difficult.

Hence we will be shutting the forum down.

I'm sure many of you have benefitted from the no-nonsense, all technical knowledge stored on the forum. It would be a shame to lose all the invaluable information shared there. Hence we are open to the idea of migrating the forum's database to another webhost.

Is there anyone from the ARC family who will step forward to be the keeper of the knowledge treasure trove?

Well, all that's required of you is to host the forum. You need to find some webhost on a cheap plan, say US$29.90 (S$51.00) per year. Migrate the entire forum onto your site, and its done.

It works out to about S$4.50 per month. If each of our ARC members give a small contribution, like S$2 each, it would be more than enough to pay for a year's hosting costs. The cheap plans usually give a few gigabytes of webspace, more than enough to host the ARC Forum, including large image files like our Pictorial DIYs.

We're shutting down the Forum permanently, so if no one wants to take over the webhosting, then it'll be gone forever.

But worry not, everyone has the opportunity to copy whatever information you can find on the forums. You have about 1 month to do so.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Hey all,

An Aprilia was involved in a recent fatal accident on Sunday, 18 Nov, in Bishan outside Cathalic High. Straits Times Home Section, bottom of Pg 8. The victim, an 85 yr old lady, passed away.

Please ride with caution. As much as I detest pedestrians, a life is still a life. Take care of your own, and look out for others'.

Hey Law,

How about I pay for the hosting for the website? I don't mind paying the cost as it's only ~$50 a year.

However, I do wish to see other Aprilians take the initiative to maintain the website.

This webite has been an invaluable source of information for many who wish to learn more about their bike. As a matter of fact, I use this forum quite extensively myself when it comes to DIY and riding techniques.

Perhaps I shall call Chris and see if it would be possible to change the charge card number to mine?

It's not about the money. It's about maintaining the site. Like deleting spamming accounts, backing up the database, etc.

We just need someone to host it, and take over the admin duties. No IT knowledge is required. Just need a bit of time commitment. Don't know, can learn. It's very simple. Just needs a bit of time to learn the simple steps of getting some hosting space, and migrating the entire info database over.

It's not rocket science, and doesn't cost a dime. Like I said, it's all about whether someone is willing to take 30minutes of their life to find out what the steps are and do it.

I see...

So it's a time thingy.. A luxury that us older ones do not have...

regarding the ARC website,

if we are unable to find someone to take over ARC,

issit possible if we transfer the DIY help into a blog?

at least its free, and we can keep the basic information and knowledge without the hassle of maintaining a forum.

Good to hear that there are still some willing to pitch in to help in one way or another.

Vik, thanks for the offer, but I wont be able to meet for discussions. I learnt simple SQL maintenance from online, actually. I just searched "forum backup", "setup forum" and "forum maintenance" etc on Google, then go through the hits for online tutorials. I'm sure you're busy with studies too, being in the top local university. Maybe there might be someone else more suitable.

RESPECT, whenever you're ready, let us know. We'll send u the entire forum database, and the forum will be migrated to your webhost in a flash.

I think if everyone could contribute monetarily, it would more than cover a year's operating cost, and can have some left over as a token for whoever's running the forum.

Seraph, don't say until like that. Makes me feel old. As if working from 10am-2am everyday isn't bad enough for me.

Even as I type this, I am sitting in my office, taking a breather from work.

K... catch u guys ard soon. Got some campaigns to run....
