Way back when I was riding a Phantom, I estimate my fuel reserve by...

First time getting the bike

1. First of all, take note of the reading on the odometer (1st reading).

2. Pump a full tank of petrol (take note of how much you pump, how many litres)

3. Ride the bike until the bike can't go anymore. (don't worry... it won't lose power immediately). Then, note down the reading on the odometer (2nd reading)

4. Take the 2nd reading on odometer - 1st reading on odometer = distance covered on that full tank of petrol

5. Take distance covered on that full tank of petrol DIVIDE the amount of petrol pumped, so you know how many km you can run on a full tank of petrol.

My advice is do this for about 3 times (that was what I did) and take the average. This will give you a more accurate reading.

And of course, please switch your reserve to 'ON' after the bike loses power (for Phantom bikes)! :thumb:

Hope this helps...

back in ssdc days, the instructor said u could use a torch light to shine into the tank to gauge the reserve.. maybe next time u try use a lighter shine into the fuel tank if u have ciggies and lighter? :angel:

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

lolz, U guys arh.

Anyway, I just thought of another solution. for people who like to DIY, not willng to cut tank, still wanna have a external fuel warning light or etc.

Mod ur fuel tap/petcock.

Cut a Yamaha R6 fuel petrol sensor sender unit component and join together with ur fuel tap/petcock.

The fuel sender look like this

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Yamaha-R6-fuel-petrol-sensor-sender-unit-FREE-POST_W0QQitemZ260377975478QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item260377975478&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

Either take ur original petcock, diy until it have the r6 sender unit. or u can drill the oposite side of ur tank and add this in.

Then wire to a warning light or fuel meter. (Actually I haven't found out how this fuel sender works. Not sure if it's a level finder or just low level senser only)
