Looking to buy a SW soon, hopefully by next month. Boon Siew has no stocks, not even display. Stocks arriving mid Aug.

Hope the experts here can help answer some of my queries.

1. Salesman says model is FJS 400D. How long has this model been out? Is it due for facelift or new model expecting out soon?

Sorry I have to post one question at a time...my pc keep logging me out. Have to type fast...

Posted

2. Where do you guys normally mount your IU? Can it be hidden in the right glove compartment? If yes, can it pass through ERP and carpark gantries easily?

unless if BS changed their mind, the salesman is wrong cos they only bring in SWT-400 (399cc) nowadays; they no longer bring in FJS400D since many years back.

funny thing BS updated the SW picture with SWT-400 but forgot to change the model name at their website, for so many years liow :p

Best answer to your question is to read these 2 posts... about the history and various models of SW over the years

* The Honda Silver Wing Scooter (Part 1)

* The Honda Silver Wing Scooter (Part 2)

2. Where do you guys normally mount your IU? Can it be hidden in the right glove compartment? If yes, can it pass through ERP and carpark gantries easily?

Yes, many of us put our IU inside the right glove compartment with no issue with ERP or parking.

* Ideas for Non-Stock Silverwing???

I strongly recommend that you spend a little time exploring the SW Tech Corner as there're lots of useful info (FAQ) for new SW owners, and potential owners.

Thanks Scoobydoo for the prompt response. Yes, I have been reading those links but just want to make sure again by asking. The brochure given by the Boon Siew salesman also state FJS 400D. I guess will have to wait for the stocks to arrive and inspect them physically then.

I used to ride a chopper (Kawasaki EN400) 20 years ago but have since gone on to driving. Only started riding about a month ago. So a bit out of touch after 20 years.

A few more questions:

3. What top box goes well with the SW? Givi? Shad? Would prefer one whereby the colour doesn't fade too easily. Also will boxes >45litres be too wide at the back making it difficult to squeeze between cars?

4. Which bike insurer is good? A motorshop I enquire says to choose only Jap insurers like Mitsui. He says other insurers more problematic when making claims. Is it true?

5. Between black, white and silver, which is easiest to maintain for lazy people like me who don't wash too frequently?

Thanks again for your help!

the Kawa EN400 Vulcan is a good bike, i think SW9000 use to ride it too.

i rode something very similar (in looks) in the 90s, the Honda CBX... chose it over the Vulcan becos it's shaft driven :)

SW has no issue with most, if not all boxes... and it has a tail fin that's perfect for mounting a box, no need extra costs to buy a rack.

* Top Boxes

probably the most common is the very affordable and value-for-$$ matt black Givi E450 (45L capacity),

i'm using the Givi Maxia 52L cos somehow, i've got lots of things to carry around :lol:

a lot depends on your budget, needs (size) and how you want you very own SW to look like (matching color, shape).

4. Which bike insurer is good? A motorshop I enquire says to choose only Jap insurers like Mitsui. He says other insurers more problematic when making claims. Is it true?

every shop has their side of stories, supporting their preferred insurance companies.

my SW was with NTUC, AIG... but just renewed with DirectAsia :p

5. Between black, white and silver, which is easiest to maintain for lazy people like me who don't wash too frequently?

silver... definitely easier to maintain than black or white, but is that the color you like or can get to like? :p

Thanks again for your help!

Hi Bro 70boleh, me also just got a SW. The ERP reader also in the right glove compartment. No issue through ERP and carpark.

Hi bro tthiang! Glad to hear that IU in glove compartment has no problem.

Many thanks to bro scoobydoo too! You have been most helpful! My preferred colour is silver, might wanna look for a silver box to match.
