Diablo is about $180 a pair.

Most tire lasts about 15k to 20k max.

Usually by 15k, the tires would become uneven. *That'll be half a year of travel for me.

I normally maintain tire pressure at 200kpa (front) and 250kpa (rear).

Some prefers at maximum allowable, i.e. at 260kpa. Not sure got any difference in the tire lifespan?

2017

11 - 25 Nov - 15D, Taiwan - Fly and Scoot

2018

7 - 15 Apr - 9D, Phuket and Hatyai Songkran

17 Nov to 2 Dec - 16D, North East Thailand (Issan)

2019

Bike is ready... for Genting next week.

Changed - Steering Cone. Thailand roads are notorious for steering cone wear.

Changed - Metzler Feelfree Tires. Using again after a few years. More confident at corners. My own feel.

Changed - IUH24 Iridium spark plugs. Old bike liao... can't feel the difference against my usual IUH24D. Will use this from now on.

Changed - Front Brake Disc. Superly worn already. 1st time changed... after 133,000km.

Changed - Front and Rear brake pads. SBS brand but seems like got minor sound. Might change to Goldfren later.

Changed - Back to stock air filter (from K&N). Hmm... whirling noise from airbox/variator area seems to minimized. Will test for 20k.

Don't use goldfren. Otherwise you'll need to change your disc again. Happened to my Goldwing and NC hor. 😡

OLD NO GO, NEW NO COME.

Hi All,

For those who have travelled to Thailand, do you use Gasohol 95 or Gasoline 91? Any side effects?

Cheers!

Hi Silverwing Riders, I owned a SWT400 for 1 year 1 month. Noticed that the rear tyre is uneven. Thinking of changing it. Can anyone advice me which brand is better for SWT400 and why is it so the rear tyre become uneven. How to prevent future happening. Thanks in advance.

Hi Silverwingers, thanks for advice on my tyre issue. It was a great help. I have replaced both tyres to Pirelli diablo from ACM for $180. It make me mentally and physically safer on the road. The next project will be lowering the front fork to stabilize when cornering and sourcing for good and cheap belting change with full servicing. Any recommendations? Was told belting change and full servicing cost 300 plus. Thank those bros that help and everyone in anyway that make this thread helpful.

NEVER get any 'chiong' replacement for the belt. Get the original one.

Standard Full Service (APPROXIMATE itemised cost)

Belt - $120 to $130.

Rollers - $40 to $45.

U-clips - $8 to $10.

Spark plugs - $16 to $18 each (iridium IUH24) * Can use normal also.

Engine Oil and Transmission Oil - $69 to $84 (3 litres, 10W40) * 2.2L for Engine and 0.32L for Transmission.

Oil Filter - $15 to $20.

Air Filter - $38 to $42.

If workmanship is separated, expect around $50.

Different bike shops charge differently. It is all about trust. No need to save a few dollars and worried about unprofessional work.

I trust ACM. Others may have their own preference.

there's another very useful thread for SW... do check it out

a lot depends on what items and brand/model you change.

if you use those $30+/L engine oil over the $20+ or

like SW9000 says... can consider aftermarket stuffs, but NEVER use chiong items

hi guys, I dun see alot of silverwings use after market brake levers like those fancy type from rizoma or ASV. Chiong one also dun have.

Went to ah boy so ichy backside ask them if there is any in the market.

Bo sia, nothing for Silverwing. You guys have any experience with any brands in the market that fits?

I bought 1 for my sw400 but it does not fit. basically you need to CNC a piece to hold the lever in place.

down to his level, then beats you on experience...

Hi! Quick question for the new owners.

Do you guys go to Boon Siew for your servicing (in order to retain the 1yr warranty) or go outside workshop to do it? Also whats the cost of 1st service?

TIA!

on the advise of the old birds here, i went for my 1st servicing at BS, got my warranty card chopped and servicing registered in their system.

next visit is many months later... had to tow my SW in to BS for warranty repair, the magnetic coil died on me :(

next visit is many years later... had to tow my SW in to BS for non-warranty repair, the pulser coil died on me :(

next visit is ... hope not to go in BS anymore

objectively speaking, there are pros and cons of sending the SW to BS...

warranty repairs are free, so why not? another thing is, there may be some defects that probably only BS has the electronics to diagnose and find the problem.

on the other hand, i still believe that BS mechs don't know the SW as well as our regular mechs, likely becos the SW community is relatively small and most SWingers chose to service outside. of the 3 times my SW was serviced by BS, i had to re-seal the right engine cover at K&T for all 3 times; either BS mechs don't seem to be able to do a proper job, or i'm darn unlucky lor :slapforehead:

Hi Bro scoobydoo, ACM Ah Choong recommend me to lower the front fork to stabilize corning. What is your recommendation?

Posted

there're a few methods which SWingers have tried to improve the performance/feel of SW's front suspension, such as changing to aftermarket hyperpro fork springs, using heavier fork oil, filling in more fork oil, adding spacers inside to pre-load the stock springs, lowering the front fork, etc etc.

i think some SWingers have tried the "lowering" method and have commented well on that option; it is also a more economical option compared to investing on a pair of hyperpro. i've yet to try it so can't give you first hand review.

according to dynamics, lowering a bike's CG should improve its cornering. but how much improvement could be achieved by lowering just the front is something you have to try and tell yourself :p

for better safety (especially during e-braking), i'ld recommend also to "stiffen" the front suspension since the rear becomes more "kiaw" than stock config.

The fork max travel is 2cm from the clamp.

Any lowering more than that means the fork will hit?

I would prefer a change to Hyperpro if necessary.

Anyway, lowering is a cheaper option and can always reverse if don't like it. Can try just to satisfy the curiosity.
