hey scooby how are the longevity of these bulbs performing?

when it first came out at lim batt (about 4 years ago) i tried them and they only lasted for a few months(2-3) of daily usage.

agree with you they don't last as long as the normal bulbs, too hot?

one kaput slightly >½ year but the other lasted >1 year... hit n miss :p

i'm now using philips x-treme vision, can't remember whether bought from mxtradings ($63/pair now) or anodise57 (cheaper by few bucks).

for riding in singapore, those $10 a pair bulbs also can cos roads are bright enough. but using brighter bulbs may help make the SW more visible to other road users.

personally, i would not recommend getting those high temp white lights ... not LTA/inspection friendly and not as good as the yellow ones in foul weather (less if you don't ride in the rain).

Does Boon Siew offer the best price?

Very rare for riders here to buy from Boon Siew.

Yes, they does. I only ask three shops. 22K for new bike. Is it a good price? I am paying cash.

I am riding a CB400 want to change to Silverwing for extra storage space.

As long as there no horror story on them, than i am good. Must wait for the next batch coming in on May 2016.

suggest you also ask for OTR price with loan (under minimum loan amount and period basis), then compare with "cash and take" price and see whether the diff is worth it... but if have spare cash and don't mind clearing stock, go for it :p

most shops will increase price by a couple of hundred bucks for no-loan purchases, e.g. Looi's upped price by $500 and BP upped by $400+ for SW many years back.

my best guess for the extra is to cover their "loss" in interest earnings if they sell under no loan.

if diff between cash and min loan total cost is not much, you may wanna choose the best option according to your needs/preferences

i haven't changed my SW for some years, so may not have latest info. but seems many riders buy their SW from

* Bike Production

* Looi's (i bought mine here)

* ASP Changi

cheers

I read the guide that mention 4 predrilled holes for top box bracket. I wonder where is it located. Any top box that would fitted into it?

Is it located in this diagram?

http://www.motorcycleplanet.co.uk/products/1215-givi-sr19m-top-box-rack-for-honda-sw-t-400-600/

there is no pre-drilled holes on the tail fin (factory state), it comes smooth as not every SWinger wants to have a top box at the rear.

SW's "tail fin" can fit almost any top box's base plate (usually plastic ones comes together with box, may buy separately for metal ones), which is usually mounted (bolted) directly onto the flat surface of the tail fin. yes, we will need to drill the required holes (size and location depends on the base plates or rack).

the drawing (link you provided) indicates that it uses 4 bolts to hold the rack down, i.e. 4 holes will need to be drilled.

can consider asking mech to put some silicone to seal the holes when bolting the rack down, to prevent water from going into the holes.

Hi cupfan, welcome to SW community...

I'm not sure how far North you're referring to, but our SW kakis has visited many parts of southern Thailand like Hatyai/Songkhla, Krabi, Phuket, Betong, and even the island of Ko Smaui (take ferry across). Further North? Tourmaster aka Mr iron butt SW9000 visited Mah Hong Song with his SWT-400. West Malaysia? No issue la ... provided no "unforeseen" events :p

Before heading up North, it's better (or must) to do some planning especially if it's your first time, for example...

* Immigration: different procedures may apply at Bt Kayu Hitam/Sadao or Bt Berapit/Betong checkpoints compared to Johor (via woodlands or Tuas)

* Customs: documents required for temporarily importation permit for our SW to enter Thailand, note their operating hours

* Singapore insurance: what your insurance policies covers/don't cover, whether going places where policy don't cover (different policy have different coverage range limits), e.g. Hatyai and Songkhla is within 80km if count from Padang Besar M'sia immigration.

* Thailand insurance: 3rd party insurance during period of visit in Thailand, strongly recommended (it's cheap) and do check what it covers/don't cover (e.g. it does not cover damages on the car/bike you ride into)

* Travel insurance: this one don't save hor

* Logistics: breakdown how? Nasically, no parts for our SW in Msia/Thailand and hardly any mech there knows exactly how to repair the alien bike. We usually bring some "critical" parts like fuses, magnetic coil, belt, tyre repair kit, etc. when touring far North (nearby places ok la, just tow back).

* Towing services: must get ready a few numbers to call, for towing in M'sia and/or in Thailand

* Pre-ride servicing/checks: make sure bike is in touring condition before heading out/up

* Others: e.g. GPS, maps, hotel, local "guides", cash/currency, ATM and Visa cards, etc.

from DirectAsia for motorcycles:

Your policy covers you when you ride your motorcycle in Singapore, West Malaysia and Southern Thailand (Within 80km of the border between Thailand and Malaysia.)

from DirectAsia for cars:

Your policy covers you when your car is in Singapore, West Malaysia and Southern Thailand (this is the part of Thailand within 80km of the border between Thailand and Malaysia.) You can also choose to lower your premium for opting to drive in Singapore only.

Hi there, like to ask is swt400 suitable for traveling up north?

What should I take in precaution and assurance from the bike if I'm planning to ride up?

Hmm.... Golden Triangle good enough?
