Dear All,

I bought a Honda SilverWing 400 GT but I don't know the right model year for it. Is there a place where can I put the Chassis # and it will tell me the year of it?

details such as bike model, chassis & engine nos., year of manufacture, COE nos. and expiry, etc. all will be listed in the letter to you from LTA (aka log card).

alternatively, you may do an online enquiry via onemotoring eServices... Singpass login required.

https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/onemotoring/en/lta_e_services/services_for_assets.html

bike has to be registered under your name, else cannot see lor :p

So far la, in sg the GT models seem to be 400cc. Everytime i see one, i confirm will remember the plate number and check online. All the times so far, it has been 400cc.

A way to differentiate the GT 400 and 600 is by the colour of the original sides model words/label - Silver Wing GT

Gold is 600

Silver is 400.

Only 400cc available in SG... unless u want import the 600.

SW heavy, cannot go fast. The stock CBS is good enough.

Can also get the ABS model.

I've been using CBS for the past 8 years. No issue even for Thailand rides.

If u are the chiong type, suggest don't get the SW. Tmax would be a better choice.

before i post my questions to the lau jiao

i will answer bathingape - hard brake on the silverwing is a no no , it will not "eat" so dun expect it to have fantastic brake power

silvewing backside weight is crazy , can feel it ski wan , esp after rain ,

was going to hatyai last friday , it was raining, can feel the bike swayed abit at the top slope of bike lane to tuas check point

going up to cameron when road is wet also challenging.

and now for my questions .

lau jiao who make long trip - after a single journey of 200km , when you all stop , can smell very strong burning smell like chao tar smel ?

then now after the trip everytime i off ignition it gives off a psst sound .(not sure u all know what i mean)

Have you opened up the belt compartment and check?

When was the last time u cleaned the foam filter at the belt cover?

Belt slipping... or hand brakes rubbing?

I didn't face such incident before.

That belt compartment filter... many bike shop don't check.

No sure whether ACM check for others because I usually does the servicing on my own.

Better to clean it once in a while for better air flow for cooling.

Anyway, fairly easy to open.

Some of us travel further than 30km to work... IMO, travelling distance for SW is not an issue.

The SW's single disc front and rear brakes with CBS is sufficient for safe riding, like SW9000 said. He has ventured as far as MHS and is now riding his 3rd SW :p

Other than having a heavy backside (as wait4me pointed out) that may execute 神龙摆尾 on wet roads (especially when braking hard), expect the SW to have a longer stopping distance than the much lighter scooters you mentioned.

Suggest consider personal riding pattern and what you expect from the scooter... a ¼ tonne SW (even before adding rider's weight) that is designed for comfort and touring isn't going to weave like a zippy Runner, chiong like T-Max, kup-corners like road bikes, or stop within short distance like we do during TP test.

If you're looking for those performance traits, I'ld say SW is not the right machine.

But if you're looking for utility (lots of storage space), comfort (leg room and siting posture), smooth engine (parallel twin), easy to maintain (simple electronics plus old tech but reliable CVT), SW is a good contender.

My 2c

Hi SW guys - long time I didn't visit or communicate as I been busy and travelling. But just to let you know that my SW 400 is up for sale. It has just been completely checked over and CVT renewed, alternator & battery as well as new brakes etc. by AC Motors. I cant ride anymore so sad to part. But it was a very good bike, never crashed and never ridden in anger. if any interest can PM me.

Meanwhile all the best to you guys and enjoy your rides. I will look in on the site whenever got time.
