A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

I've read the posts on motorcycling safety and thank the efforts of all bikers who try to make our safety a priority.

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

I would like to write in to the media with some support from bikers here, for those who have lost friends and relatives to drivers like this and also to highlight the injustice in this case.i am sick and tired of being at the mercy of these road killers. kindly attached your names below. thank you.

it's ridiculous how her stupid claim that she didn't know the lights were not in her favour actually led to the final verdict. i can already guess why she thought so, cuz she was on the bloody phone! And since they have access to phone records, couldn't they have checked the records of her using the phone during the time of the accident?

and since the taxi driver can testify that the lights had changed in their favour, isn't that obvious enough that she had beaten the red light?

and why shouldn't this case be political? if the nation's leaders ignores this case, it only goes to show the presence of a screwed up judicial system in Singapore, and the leaders' lack of initiative or power to set things right.

oh wait, i did heard about someone getting caught red handed by CNPB selling X, but because of his father's "role", the case was thrown and that guy apparently is now a PSC scholar doing his degree in MIT. How's that for controversy?

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

I've read the posts on motorcycling safety and thank the efforts of all bikers who try to make our safety a priority.

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

I would like to write in to the media with some support from bikers here, for those who have lost friends and relatives to drivers like this and also to highlight the injustice in this case.i am sick and tired of being at the mercy of these road killers. kindly attached your names below. thank you.

A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

I've read the posts on motorcycling safety and thank the efforts of all bikers who try to make our safety a priority.

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

I would like to write in to the media with some support from bikers here, for those who have lost friends and relatives to drivers like this and also to highlight the injustice in this case.i am sick and tired of being at the mercy of these road killers. kindly attached your names below. thank you.

A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

I've read the posts on motorcycling safety and thank the efforts of all bikers who try to make our safety a priority.

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

I would like to write in to the media with some support from bikers here, for those who have lost friends and relatives to drivers like this and also to highlight the injustice in this case.i am sick and tired of being at the mercy of these road killers. kindly attached your names below. thank you.

What's happened is a terrible shame. No doubt about that at all.

What's even more shameful about this thread is how so many of my fellow bikers wish for bad things to befall the wrong-doer (or even worse, her loved ones).

I agree that the judicial process has shown terrible weaknesses. But it would not be fixed if her kid, or some minister's family member gets hurt, or worse, killed. Sure, there will be additional attention to the matter. And sure again that the DPP, along with the IO, along with the judge will work extra hard to get a conviction along with a harsh sentence.

All I see the end of each day is that we're still sitting on our seats, signing a petition which will probably never leave this forum.

Lets be honest. Courts work within legislation and can't sentence beyond what's provisioned by the law. Prosecutioners decide the charge based on evidence and what would probably get a conviction. These details are often bartered with the defence lawyer.

Get active. If you really feel so strongly about changing legislation, then voice this up to your MP. Petition for the change. Get your draft tabled. But mind you, this is a double edged sword. Your protection could also be the law that puts you in.

Do something thats worth being proud of. Irrelevant venting by immature individuals here makes this cause loose it's 'soul'.

What you can do:

-Find out which MP stands for more protection to motorcycle riders.

-Identify a constituent who is will to go meet the MP (or his office)

-Draft out what you would like to achieve (in the context of rider protection)

-Understand what needs to accomplished before he takes the takes on. eg 1000 signatures from his constituency or anything to that effect.

If you felt insulted by my comments, good. It was meant to. Don't talk about it if you dont intend to do anything about it.

i think if u read from the start, the TS did try to do something by asking for help from those who knows the proper channel. What this petition for is that we are showing our fustration even though i agree that some of the individuals are being very emotional.

The law is straight and cold.... But humans have feelings, emotions and compassion..... what is being done here is a petition to express how we feel about the verdict passed to the particular offender who has incurred so much wrath among us fellow bikers... (Although i do admit that some comments by some guys are rather harsh and repulsive)

We do not wish to change the law... we just want public awareness that something like that has happened and that we feel that injustice is being done... If you do not get the meaning of the actions, perhaps you should just keep your comments to yourself instead of telling us that we are not doing something to be proud of..... Wait for the results before condemning something which may turn out to be fruitful......

Lastly, I hereby stress that we do not wish nor have the knowledge to change the law.....If you do, good for you..... Let me know if you managed to do so.....

A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

I've read the posts on motorcycling safety and thank the efforts of all bikers who try to make our safety a priority.

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

I would like to write in to the media with some support from bikers here, for those who have lost friends and relatives to drivers like this and also to highlight the injustice in this case.i am sick and tired of being at the mercy of these road killers. kindly attached your names below. thank you.

What's happened is a terrible shame. No doubt about that at all.
What's even more shameful about this thread is how so many of my fellow bikers wish for bad things to befall the wrong-doer (or even worse, her loved ones).

I agree that the judicial process has shown terrible weaknesses. But it would not be fixed if her kid, or some minister's family member gets hurt, or worse, killed. Sure, there will be additional attention to the matter. And sure again that the DPP, along with the IO, along with the judge will work extra hard to get a conviction along with a harsh sentence.

All I see the end of each day is that we're still sitting on our seats, signing a petition which will probably never leave this forum.

Lets be honest. Courts work within legislation and can't sentence beyond what's provisioned by the law. Prosecutioners decide the charge based on evidence and what would probably get a conviction. These details are often bartered with the defence lawyer.

Get active. If you really feel so strongly about changing legislation, then voice this up to your MP. Petition for the change. Get your draft tabled. But mind you, this is a double edged sword. Your protection could also be the law that puts you in.

Do something thats worth being proud of. Irrelevant venting by immature individuals here makes this cause loose it's 'soul'.

What you can do:
-Find out which MP stands for more protection to motorcycle riders.
-Identify a constituent who is will to go meet the MP (or his office)
-Draft out what you would like to achieve (in the context of rider protection)
-Understand what needs to accomplished before he takes the takes on. eg 1000 signatures from his constituency or anything to that effect.

If you felt insulted by my comments, good. It was meant to. Don't talk about it if you dont intend to do anything about it.

Dearest Justin, u r right, if this petition never leaves this forum, it will only be a platform where a lot of bikers have come across and expressed our feelings.

If u have read through all the 100++ comments alongside our names, u would have realised that many have lost their beloved through similar actions, some worst. We are just human beings with feelings and would like to know that a live is indeed not that cheap, and if anything were amiss throughout the case.

In the event that u r not a biker, or not associated with bikers, then why r u... ... ...? we can use ur help if u choose to, or would u rather just be cyclops and lend us ur eye-power?

My guess is that u will nv come back to this page/ this forum again after that comment designed to knock us off. We will take it positively as an encouragement to all fellow bikers who feel about this particular case.

If u guys know of anyone in the media/ grassroots leaders/ LTA etc and u think contacting them will not be too troublesome, perhaps we can send the representative petition letter to these leaders.

Lo-on and Yongster and all who are affected by this incident,

I'm glad I managed to get some reactions from persons here.

I too have had frens chopped down in the prime of their lives and those who are still healing from the wounds.

As you guys had put it so eloquently. You want to express yourselves. By all means, please do. But dont put it under the guise of a petition that would not be forwarded to anyone who can actually make a difference.

All I'm asking is channel your angst and frustration to something quantifiable. If my words can invoke some reaction/sentiment from you chaps, imagine what your words can do to your MP, your company, your community. Everyone always (Singaporeans as well) have things to say. When it comes to getting it done, no one acts on it.

If I can have one person who comes up to me and says that he will go through the touble with me, I will do the following...

-I will draft out a petition to request for laws in protecting motocyclist

-I will get 500 signatures if this other person commits to getting 500 signatures.

This is not a challenge to anyone, but a call to action. If anyone else wants to do this with me, you are most welcome. If anyone has knowledge of Singapore law, that would help tremendously.

Lets not sit around and talk about it anymore. Lets do something about it.

A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

I've read the posts on motorcycling safety and thank the efforts of all bikers who try to make our safety a priority.

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

I would like to write in to the media with some support from bikers here, for those who have lost friends and relatives to drivers like this and also to highlight the injustice in this case.i am sick and tired of being at the mercy of these road killers. kindly attached your names below. thank you.

easy mate. U draft it, publicise the date in a thread and venue and we all come down to sign it. I see quite a number of people carrying this thread's link in their signature already. If u publicise a call to arms (ah hem) to sign it, i will be there. I didn't bothered to sign my name in this thread because i know this thread will not go anywhere. What is needed is someone who will sit at a coffee shop, collect signatures with name and I/c, take charge of delegating the next person to sit and watch it be signed, and finally send to an MP, media.

Lo-on and Yongster and all who are affected by this incident,

I'm glad I managed to get some reactions from persons here.

I too have had frens chopped down in the prime of their lives and those who are still healing from the wounds.

As you guys had put it so eloquently. You want to express yourselves. By all means, please do. But dont put it under the guise of a petition that would not be forwarded to anyone who can actually make a difference.

All I'm asking is channel your angst and frustration to something quantifiable. If my words can invoke some reaction/sentiment from you chaps, imagine what your words can do to your MP, your company, your community. Everyone always (Singaporeans as well) have things to say. When it comes to getting it done, no one acts on it.

If I can have one person who comes up to me and says that he will go through the touble with me, I will do the following...
-I will draft out a petition to request for laws in protecting motocyclist
-I will get 500 signatures if this other person commits to getting 500 signatures.

This is not a challenge to anyone, but a call to action. If anyone else wants to do this with me, you are most welcome. If anyone has knowledge of Singapore law, that would help tremendously.

Lets not sit around and talk about it anymore. Lets do something about it.

Justin, thanks for your willingness to make a difference to the biking community in singapore.

As what i have put it in the first place, we are here to 1) show our frustration 2) need someone who is really familiar with the local system to really make an impact

But before we are able to do so and what the TS has declared his intentions, that is to get as many names as possible first, we need u (which i believe personally that u know how to and where to kick it off) to guide us or let us know the first thing to do.

If u say that the first step is to get 500 names, i believe with the no of registered members here, it shouldnt be a difficult task to achieve this.

Therefore lets work together to make this thing really get into the heads of the local authority that it is not a biker, driver or pedestrian that we are talking about .... Rather it is a human life, a life that is surrounded by friends and family members and love ones .... a human life who has visions, dreams and aspirations who has just died due to some reasons and yet to fulfill them ... a life that after she has departed, has someone who will grief for her ...

Therefore Justin my suggestion is that why dont u lead us the way from here, while the TS and the rest of us here who has pen in our names in this petition to continue to get as many names as possible.
