Have you considered this option:

Cheap DIY camera mount

i mounted my SE hp on helmet visor with rubber bands.

camera resolution is not very good coz it is only 176x144.

one minute uses one meg of memory, can take a few hours with it or until battery flat.

sample of riding clip:

video of hp mounted on visor.

it's simple to do it:

use a hot soldering iron n poke four holes thru the visor appropriately according to the level of view.

then trim off those melt plastics, make sure no sharp edges.

use two rubber bands for each side.

?!! a phone attached to your face visor while u are riding around? Isn't that dangerous in any sense? How much damage will it do to your nose if u get into a slight accident? and its just a personal opinion, no offense but it looks really weird to ride around like that.

if u think it is dangerous dun do it.

if u think it is funny dun do it.

if u think it is weird dun do it.

u dun always get wack in face during accidents.

chances of wack in the face is less than 5% from fly objects.

survey in the web, FF helmet coz most riders' death.....break a neck.

all bike racers has a hump on their back to prevent neck breakage in event of accidents.

hi guys!

recently, i changed my phone to Nokia 5630 (83g; very slim; VGA video clarity; great battery life; 4GB SDHC card) and improvised a simple water proof wrapping to attach the camera phone to the chest area of my mesh jacket (Very Big Thanks to sis Lutein for the inspiration!!).

PS: i decided ultimately that using a camera phone is my best option coz:

1) No extra device to carry ard

2) No extra battery to charge

3) I need to change phone anyway (Need vs Want)

4) Total damage = $68 ($100 discount voucher from starhub; call ur operator and request for it!)

5) Nowadays, camera phone also take such good quality videos. HMZ...

PS: last i checked, there are some really good camera phones out there that can take superb video quality. But it's personal choice which ones u want.

pretty decent video. Totally ingenious. However, it can be even better if you can somehow angle it higher to see further down the road.

It is better than helmet mounted because there is less wind resistance and probably more safer and secure.:thumb:

yup yup; coz my phone a bit off angle; fixed it now! :thumb:

seriously, hope i never have anything important to show in these videos; but knowing sg roads and traffic, i think there'll be some highlights pretty soon. :faint:

Excellent video and commentary! You captured scenes we motorcyclists experience almost everyday. Can use for the HOV session!

hmmm... i'm looking for something to mount on our bike, den can look at car plates and the way we ride.. something that mount directly on our bike and either runs on our bike battery or AAA batteries.. looking for solutions.. anyone have any ideas??? Den store videos on memories cards... of cuz, like those spy video cams.. small small one.. must be weather proof also.. :D

can check out go pro cameras here. suspect a bit pricey but the best in the market.

local dealer here.

I used my HP, but the video resolution sux - 176x144 :faint: tailgate lorry also cannot see plate no.

higher end HP can, their batteries also better and nowadays lots of phones come with 4GB and above cards, not to mention some slimmer phones are 100g light!

So now im waiting for a few nokia HP to be launched in SG, their video resolution is 640x480, i hope it'll be clear enuff so it'll be more convenient for me.

Meanwhile, Lutein sis, feed us with the videos! It's an inspiration to know there is many like minded riders ard! :thumb:

what's the best recommended VGA quality? i'm thinking of recontracting my hp line and would like to get a phone that's quite versatile for this reason. i've streamlined my choice to sony ericsson c905, quality of 640 x480. but $300 for a spare phone seems pricey. cos i intend to keep my current phone and plan to use the extra phone for this recording purpose on the move and can also double up as a good camera. or will a quality of 320 x240 suffice?

any other hps that are within budget? the cheaper the better, but importantly video quality must be there. come to think of it. c905 is just like a digicam but with extra functions but is $298 worth the price? or would a creative vado be more worth it? but it's less versatile. :? $169 only though.

im not sure if c905 can take vga quality wor (VGA video means 640x480) last i checked, SE's phone all 320x240 only.

basically the lower this number the less clear when u view full screen (or even youtube screen, for the matter).

my earlier nokia 5310 is :faint: 144xsomething -> VERY unclear.

if u r thinking of recontracting to get a good camera phone, maybe can consider mine Nokia 5630 ($68 for recontract; I called operator and requested for a recontract voucher - $100, hey every penny is a penny?). Or LG Viewty (VGA or HD cant remember 120 frames per second = very good quality) but viewty i no comments cz never use b4. i die hard nokia fan. :cheeky:

Creative vado and Vado HD diff wor, wat sis lutein is using is Vado HD - Superb quality. VGA quality can only be termed "good" relatively.

If u want a Vado or Vado HD, Pm me, i think i can get my ex-colleagues to get at staf price, about 10% off retails price ba.

PS: I chosed Nokia 5630 coz:

1) one of the fastest processors in the market (600mhz - more responsive)

2) cheap

3) good quality video

4) slim and light (U wun want a N97 hanging on ur chest precariously!)

5) comes with 4GB Micro SDHC card

6) uses thesame battery as my nokia 5310 (so now i have 2 batteries!)

woah! $58 is cheap. i can only get from m1 cos i'm still sticking to m1 lines. can't live without the free to 3 m1 numbers. oh well.. let's see how good c905 can be. 8 mega pixel but vga quality is 640 x 480. should be good eh.. but to buy a vado, isn't it a bit wasted to spend money just for 1 function, which is just for recording videos.

a few power house camera phone u may want to consider:

1) Samsung i8910 Omnia HD

2) LG Viewty

PS: C905 only take up to QVGA - 320x240, as does most other SE phones. So dun be disappointed with the video quality when u view it on pc/ youtube.

good and bad.

having 2 device means when ur vado batt flat, u still haf ur phone to call etc. also, if 1 down (spoilt), u still have the other.

but it also means carrying one more device ard. so if u always on the move and dun carry bag, troublesome ba, else no problem ah.

having 2 devices also means u get the best of both worlds - most phones do not have such high end video capturing capabilities, as compared to Vado HD. If u've seen lutein's videos, they are crystal clear, can see the number plate from quite far, whereas mine still a bit blur.

still think the best option is to use a dedicated bullet camera for these kinds of operation. the gopro is nice but battery life is short. same for contourhd. pov is good for that but damn expensive.

as for me...i still haven't bought my pov cos now i have a problem of mounting. i wanna put it somewhere that can see my speedometer AND the road ahead and behind. the big problem is this tw200 doesn't have any space for me to put the recording unit. hmmm...more brain racking....

using handphone is a good solution if you don't mind the drain on your batteries lah. my mobile phone can't do good video anyway (e71) and i do not intend to get another mobile phone just for this purpose...

eh, just in case more bros and siss need more elaboration:

Self improvise a plastic cover - prototype la, anything goes, so long u can insert ur camera and it does not budge.

Incidentally, mine is real light so np. heavier cannot vouch.

http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k352/yohohoz/04082009012.jpg

Sew velcro halves vertically on the back (the "hard" velcro half)

http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k352/yohohoz/04082009011.jpg

Sew the other halves (actually a lot, 3 strips here) on mesh jacket; horizontally.

http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k352/yohohoz/04082009010.jpg

Paste 'em together and u can slot ur handphone in! Trial and error to zero in the aim! Good luck!:faint:

This video was taken by my partner. I don't know how to do the slides in the video itself so here's the description:

Cars in front started jam braking. At short distance, if you jam brake, you might still end up rear-ending the car in front, or get hit from the back. Plan your exits early. In this case, splitting the lane saved the rider from a very close shave.

This skill of planning your exits takes many years to perfect. This rider has more than 20 years of riding experience.

The cause of the jam-braking became clear. There was a pile-up in front.

6 August 2009 SLE towards CTE.

Thanks JackOHJack!
