Forgot to take a look at your camera mount at our last outing.. :slapforehead:

I have a question: what do you use to fix the L-Plate to the tank? I can see a bolt but i fail to see what exactly maintains the L-Plate on the tank.. can you please explain or share a photo ? Thanks !

Pretty amazing... it's insane how much drivers sometimes assume things. I bet he assumed it was nothing, you'd just adapt to him cutting in and since you're riding a bike, you don't need the whole lane anyway, and bikes always ride in between lanes so it's not like he's doing anything wrong, plus - and that's the essential point here - his is bigger than yours.

Is there any way to avoid this ? Your distance from the front vehicule seems pretty good to me (but then again I have 0 real riding experience) and any closer might be dangerous in case of sudden braking. So except from being always on the lookout and checking the mirror frequently enough, how can a rider avoid this from happening?

It doesn't look like your speed was the problem neither, consistent with the traffic flow, so i just don't get why he would do that - he gained what, 1 second on his timing if he had stayed behind you ??

PS: I am SO getting a camera. Thanks for posting this, it's very enlighting.

gogogo! get ur cam, share with us! :thumb::smile:

for ur information....

i hit that particular hole u hit more den once....:cheeky:

i understand the feeling u got...

k3n, mount ur cam! :cheeky:

Ya, around that area. Then zhun zhun my wheels fit inside the hole. Was constantly looking at the tires, cuz it's stock and tubes. That impact makes me worry if I had cracked my rims as well. :faint:

Even the mineral bottle at my rack jumped out. Anyway, it's my fault for being too close and the hole present itself with me no time to react. Was too anxious to catch up with my small convoy.

On video, it's just a bump. Trust me, it was worse than that. It knocked a little wind out of me, and helped wake me up to 100% alertness.

bro shunoski, saw ur vid :thumb:

For those are not very good in DIY, one option is this. Can get its at Sim Lim Tower too at $6-8, its a type of CCTV wall mount, a few shops at the 1st level are selling it.

Just need to enlarge 1 of the hole on the base plate and you can mount it on your tank. But it will not be as stable as those use L-Plate (cause base plate too thin).

LEFT: CCTV wall mount, can get from 1st level last shop @ SIM LIM TOWER, cost $6-8.

RIGHT TOP: DIY Aluminum L-Plate & rubber base, single hole easier to make.

RIGHT BOTTOM: replace bolt(red) from CCTV mount with stuffs(blue, can get them @ DIY shop).

Final result. For my pulsar, I needed the ball joint for extra height as the front fairing is blocking the cam view. For S4, ball joint is an option.

RIGHT: if you can spend more time, you acn DIY 2 holes L-Plate, its more

stable than the single hole.

You need a same size bolt but longer in length, for pulsar tank bolt is 15mm so you need to get 25mm one. All tanks bolts are the same length for pulsar.

For S4, normal is 10mm so we need to get 20mm. You can only choose 4 out of 7 bolts cause 3 of them is the slimer & longer ones and you can't get them out there except back from honda.

You can always unscrew one of them and bring it to a DIY shop and show them, tell them you want 10mm longer.

Yon can use the simple option (the 1st photo). Just need to drill holes on the box and bolt in on.

Its make of aluminuim so rust free. Put some silicon between base plate and box for waterproofing.

hi guys!

recently, i changed my phone to Nokia 5630 (83g; very slim; VGA video clarity; great battery life; 4GB SDHC card) and improvised a simple water proof wrapping to attach the camera phone to the chest area of my mesh jacket (Very Big Thanks to sis Lutein for the inspiration!!).

PS: i decided ultimately that using a camera phone is my best option coz:

1) No extra device to carry ard

2) No extra battery to charge

3) I need to change phone anyway (Need vs Want)

4) Total damage = $68 ($100 discount voucher from starhub; call ur operator and request for it!)

5) Nowadays, camera phone also take such good quality videos. HMZ...

PS: last i checked, there are some really good camera phones out there that can take superb video quality. But it's personal choice which ones u want.

Hi Jack , thanks for the review ! , i have searched NOkia website and it seems that this 6600i is also quite a good choice ,

Nokia 5630 : http://www.nokia.com.sg/find-products/products/nokia-5630-xpressmusic/specifications

Nokia 6600i : http://www.nokia.com.sg/find-products/products/nokia-6600i-slide/specifications

basically both phones have Video recording at up to 640 x 480 (VGA), up to 15 fps...but the website says the 5630 can take up to 90mins of video , but did not state any for the 6600i , anyone knows how long its able to take video ?

cause i looking to recontract and upgrade my army phone , at the same time get something to film daily "exciting" footage just in case anything happens :dot:

yoz, glad u r joining us!

i'll say 640x480 @ 15fps better than 352x288 @ 30fps.

Frame Per Second (fps) simply means how smooth the video is, while resolution (640x480 vs 352x288) means how clear the details are.

so if u use 6700, the video will be smooth, but details may be pixelated/ blur.

if u use 6600/ 5630, the video will be slightly jerky (like my videos), but can see more details (no plates!).

Regarding file format, not much diff if H.263 or H.264, if u wanna use windows movie maker to compile the videos, u'll have to convert them to avi 1st. (i dun think there's any video recorder that uses .avi format coz too inefficient)

for 6600, as it is a slide phone, maybe u gotta check if can take video while the phone is unslided. if can only take video while slide out, may be hard to make a handphone mount due to it's shape when slide out.

regarding recoding time of these phones, it depends on 2 issues:

1) battery life

2) memory card capacity

eh, for 5630, definitely can take more than 90mins. so far i haven record until batt flat - even if only left 1 tiny bar of batt, still can take until i reach destination (30 min +/-)

memory card also hard to record until full, if u r riding primarily in sg. 30 mins +/- ride will translate to abt 300MB - 500MB.

for me, nowadays, if i never "see" any big hooha or things worth pointing out, i'll just delete the recordings, else everyday abt 1GB, 1 month 30GB, 1 year 360GB!

u may also wanna buy an extra battery in case u ever run almost flat. l8r got video but phone flat cannot contact gf den siao liao! for me, heng heng my old phone 5310 uses the same battery as 5630, so end up very easy to make my choice.

Last points: if u wanna use handphone to take video, it'll be better to switch to offline/flight mode. cause if ur phone rings, the video recording will be interrupted and paused. it's ok for me since i dun intend to call anyone while my hands are busy on the handlebar.

Also, while it's cool to take video while riding etc, u gotta find a phone which u like and serve u well. for instance, if u frequently use hp to read/send email, it makes more sense to get nokia E series. if u want super all-in-one, it makes more sense to get N Series etc. For me 5630 can serve most of my needs and wants (music + wireless lan + bluetooth + video recording + light + small +3g)

Hi Jack , thanks for the lengthy tips ! , i checked out the Nokia N series and believe that i have found the winner . The Nokia N85, possibly the best phone ever made.

# 5 megapixel camera

# CMOS sensor, Carl Zeiss optics, Tessarâ„¢ lens

# Up to 20x digital zoom

# Video recording time (maximum): 2 h 54 min

# Video recording at up to 640 x 480 pixels (VGA) and up to 30fps :cheeky:

A sample of the video recording with N85 on the road : look at the top video.

http://www.nokia.com.sg/find-products/nseries/inside-nseries/n85-and-n96-visit-nyc-video

Although the number plates are still not clear , the overall quality is superb for me already :thumb:

Currently , singtel is offering it for $198 with 2 year contract , which is abit pricey for me but i am hoping they will have some promo during christmas lol.

For others who are interested in even better quality , there is this N86 8 MP , but it cost $398++ so i didnt bother to do research on it ...

Please share if you have found other phones that are good as well !

call singtel and DEMAND a recontract voucher!!! ($50/$100)

consider weight and size also, if too heavy and big hanging off the jacket - may be unstable.
