A GSR would be more practical for road use. Can use it for some mid-distance touring too. A DRZ, in motard trim... is also usable for local roads, can also serve as a track bike... but it's not that great for touring.

I would think that the DRZ400sm should have slightly better fuel economy. since its single cylinder & pulling a lighter load.

I get the impression that a 400cc in line 4 does not have enough torque to truly utilise a 180/55 rear tyre fully. Thus pick up / fuel economy might even be compromise a little.

( something like a 1.5 litre non turbo car using a 17 / 18 inch wheel.......all show but no go )

based on 400cc roadbike, i would rather opt for S4.

just my opinion. For a 180/55 ZR17 tyre, I would think that the bike should be at least 600cc. eg GSR 600, Fazer 600, HOrnet 600.

1997 TZR 125 - 1998 FZ 150 - 1999 GSXR 400K - 1999 RX 100 - 2000 LC 125 - 2001 TZR 125 - 2002 CB 400 Ver S - 2006 CBR 929 - 2006 GETZ 1.4 - 2009 STEED 400 - 2016 ???

Get a DRZ for a long term use ...Reliable and convenient ...

I've told many, here's i goes again..

I've not regret buying Super4..

but i've regreted not chosing DRZ over Super4 that time..

DRZ can tour.. as long as it has wheels, it can tour.. one of our fellow forumer here had toured the whole of Thailand with his DRZ.. many in states uses DRZ as their trail and touring bike..

with regards to FC, a stock DRZ can easily hit 30km/L.. but with performance mods, it'll stoop as low as 13km/L..

let's list some pros and cons of DRZ over GSR?

Pros:

Cheaper?

easy maintenance, 1sparkplug, reuseable aftermarket oil filter, 2L of EO

cheaper parts i.e. tyres, plastics, less sparkplugs, simple carb compared to EFI

lighter to handle for small sized rider

Cons:

it's a thumper, some might not be used to the torque and low top speed.

huge accessories market, wallet lightening.. **you have been warned**

i dun notice any problem about the gsr with its big tires..

only the price of the tyres abit high, but the bikes not slow or whatsoever

Ok .. So i get a DRZ then ... get DRZ .. Coz if u go tourin , u can go off road and on road ... Can even trail short cut if ya find the road quite monotonous ..

Be humble on the road at all times coz u'll neva noe wen u need any rider's help...

of course DRZ. super4 so common on the road, becoming boring

Always ride safely and defensively.

Repair bike cheap and fast,

Repair body expensive and slow.
