newbie to duc, any advices for a new duc during the "Break-in-period"? thanks!

Follow what your manual says, they wont give you wrong instructions. Strict 6000rpm max for first 1000km. Max 7500rpm till 2500km. (The latter to me is optional). But the first 1000kms really important :)

Every new bike is hard run in, full throttle revved right up to redline at the factory before being delivered. Of course, they do it in stages to properly warm up the engine before bedding in the piston rings.

That done, all you have to do is to take it 'easy' for the next 1000km or so, but not too easy too or the piston rings will not seal properly.

6000rpms on a 1198 and M400 is vastly different. I can't remember, but my old 999 will be doing around 60-70km/h in 1st gear at 6000rpms?

You only need a dyno hard run in after you've done an engine overhaul, because theres no way any sane person is going to ride hard enough to seal the piston rings properly on the road.

well.. theres been issues/debating on hard run in and normal run in.. Some complaint engine make noises after hard run in, for normal run in, roads too congested for hard acceleration and deceleration. For me i follow the manufacturer's manual because they made our bike... Aneway to each his own..

thanks for the info.

btw the hard run-in & normal run-in are thru DYNO or on road?

hard run in can be at dyno machine, done by mechanic.. or track if u know how to do it.. normal run in is u simply ride on roads not to over rev the recommended rpms in a few km stages.. the best way is to accelerate hard (not to over rev the said rpms) through all the gears and decelerate hard by engine braking..

best if you can do all these on a combination of slopes and flat roads. the entire length of Clementi road is a good place to run in.

spoke to a few friends of mine, they advice me to do so.

what do the experienced duc riders think? thanks.

I strongly do not advice hard running in. Stick to the manual. Not only do u have to run in ur gears and engine components. But u have to run in the oil in ur suspension as well which u can't do this at the dyno.

I've been to Honda Headquaters to personally see bikes manufactured. I've been told by the instructors/racers to do a proper run in. It doesn't take that long to run in. I travelled with my brand new bike for less than a month and my mileage is already 1850km. Fully run in already.
