to all , i'm planning on buying a class 2 bike. i know Ducati is a total class on its own , a very good and expensive bike and i got few questions on it.

1st) How much does a Ducati 1098 cost ? (original , 1st hand bike)

2nd) How many versions of the latest sportsbike they have? Is it true it is the 1098 , 1098-S , 1098-R and the 1198-S?

3rd) Roughly, how much would the insurance cost for a 23-24 year old?

4th) I'm a track lover plus i want a bike for transport as well. But i'm newbie on track as well. Is it worth learning with a ducati or go for something else way much cheaper and get a ducati after i've mastered the track?

ps: I only want 1st hand brand new bikes, not interested in a 2nd hand class 2.

please do let me know and share with me your thoughts and experience :)

thanks alot

1) 1098 base model cost ard $40k when I bought it but currently no more new stock already in SG if I'm not wrong.

2) current latest model for superbike will be 1198, 1198s & 1098r.. there might be a last new piece of 1098s in Ducati Singapore...u gotta check tis wif them on tis..

3) for 26 & below, 1st party I tink should cost 3K @ least...?

4) need track regulars to explain to u on this..

Personally, I bought the bike coz I like it & has been my dream since young... so I guess itz really up to each individual perception on it..

The Ducati is built for the track! I ride to work every day on mine and then PG on saturday.

just take it easy to start, ask lots of questions, talk to the regulars. let me know if you want to borrow some race plastics, I got a spare set.

Cheers

It doesn't matter what the question is, the answer is more power!

But they get really really hot!! Sometimes so hot till the inner parts of my thighs get slightly red!

Owned other big bikes before this and I got to say this gets the hottest! Too much traffic in SG! Go to the track!

Hi gosilan,

I'm a newbie too. Only been to PG 5 times but crashed on my 3rd.

As I'm a newbie, I'm not in a position to say if a ducati is a bike worth learning track riding or not. Its the only bike I ever gone "tracking" with. All I can say is this;

I got overconfident and did a stupid thing and lowsided on turn 5. Totally my fault. I'm still trying to get my confidence back till now.

The above is just my experience. Point is, any bike will do BUT remember to consider if you can afford a crash! It may happen one day especially if you get overconfident (like me :dot:). From my experience, its not cheap. I walked away from my crash thinking it wouldn't burn that big a hole in my pocket... was I wrong!

I ended up with a bill nearly reaching 5k. I reduced that amount by buying some used parts off ebay and holding off on replacing my right termi (there's a crack but not gas leak, so..... hehehe) plus other stuff I won't go into detail.

Its a great bike! I still love it and have gone back to the track twice since! Just remember to set aside cash in case of a crash. It'll be quite a financial burden (track riding a duc i mean).

Last point, duc or not. Get good well fitting gear! It'll hurt spending the $$ but you'll be glad you did if you do crash! (touch wood!)

Ops.... too long post! Sorry!
