when u say 100 deg. u mean when riding or in the traffic jam? for jams. the heat probably topped at 105 deg. and never goes any higher.

for normal riding on the e'way i think shld be around 60 ++ to 70+

that is for my bike.

u may use it as a reference.

In slow traffic and jams I think 100 or even slightly over is normal. Usual highway speeds it is normally between 70 to 80 degrees in the day.

Speed u travel plays apart too. Amount of airflow going into our bikes determines our bike temp. So i will advise u to plan your route well before riding off. Avoid traffic lights n u will have no problems on d heat.

Hi all, I have a question for riders whom visit the tracks.

I am interested to head to the tracks before Christmas this year but when I approached RaceWorks @ Bukit Merah, I was told that there was nothing much that could be done to set up bike my bike in the suspensions department, primarily because of the limited resolution in terms of adjustability(showa). Which begets my question.

Should I:

a) Change the internals of the stock showa suspension for the Streetfighter to the Ohlins internals (customized for my weight)

b) Get a set of Ohlins from directly from the S model (together with the lower clamp)

c) Get a set of FGRT, TTX rear.

I from what I was advised, even option b and c would require me to change the internals due to the rider weight. I was told that the rider weight that the shocks(both stock S Ohlins and FGRT) are made for lies in the region of 93~97kgs without gear. So given that I am 75kgs at heaviest, I would need to change the internals. Which would be a better choice?

I have listed out my options in terms of my preferred solution but please do enlighten me if I have got it all wrong.

Please pardon me as I have little to no experience in this.

Thank you all in advance. Any help, if at all, is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Advice is just to head down to track and get a feel of the bike 1st. Unless you are a seasoned trackie, you won't know what you want 'till you get used to the bike and track. You are not going down to set a qualifiying laptime so leave all these suspension mods for later. More than often, the stock settings will do well for most of us mortal beings. Unless you have alot of moolah to spend.... But if you really do need to spend on something, get good tyres.

Thank you very much for your input, so I should just proceed to set the stock showa up? Just the preload and rider sag. Will do the rebound and compression myself at the tracks? Will the diablo corsa 3 do ok at the tracks? Because I ride on the streets 90% of the time, by streets I mean 2.6km to school with 6 traffic lights in between (never when it rains or when the ground is wet). I don't want to get the SC2s then have them squared by the next track day because of the hiatus in between. Thanks again for the input.

Yup just get the sag set. Dampings turned to the mid-range. From there can adjust it out.

I'm planning to head down to PG next week. Most probably a weekday. Let me know if u r keen. SC2s will do just fine for the kind of riding u r doing since you don't travel much on the road. Unless you don't intend to visit the track often.

thank you very much for your input and invite to PG but I'm still in the midst of my exams. will be done come 4th Dec! :) then its gear shopping and the track. Haven't had the time to get my gear since I took the keys to this bike 2 weeks before exams started.

with regards to the suspension, some guys over at ducati.org recommended to re-spring and re-valve the showas.

As for the SC2s, I am under the impression that they "deform" after prolonged inactivity or usage on straight roads, hence my concern.

thank you, once again for your kind input.

Regardless of tyre brand.....it will deform if pressure is not set...so check your tyre pressure before u start your engine

The fan should kick in around 102-103. Then your temp should start to drop by 1-3 deg or at the very least stop increasing. If it continues increasing then your fan is probably spoilt, as I found out a couple of weeks back when my bike overheated and the coolant started boiling over.

As long as the temp doesn't cross 105 everything should be functioning normally. The leg hair perm comes with the big bike. :D Hope that helps.

If i'm not wrong, 1 fan till start @ 101 degrees and the other will start @ 102 degrees.

Engine should auto switch off once the bike hits 118 degrees.

Using good coolant and engine oil will actually prevent all of this from happening. I know of ppl whom change out their coolant that ducatu put in and the bike didnt run so hot.

Personally on my old S4, only with anything more then 70% city riding did the fan come on. I'm assuming that the newer bike would run alittle hotter.

Hmm, I'm not too sure of what exactly happened the other time, but for my bike the temperature gauge stops at 110. It won't read any higher than that although it was obvious to me it was going higher. The fairings trap a ton of heat so about 10 mins of city riding will do me in, but the fans will of course keep the temp around 100-103. I use engine ice, so it probably shouldn't be the coolant's fault. The critical lifesaving difference therefore must be the fans.

At least now I know how to recognise the symptoms of overheating a lot better, having experienced it first hand.

Both my fans come on at the same time and similarly both stopped when one of the fuses blew. If what you describe is correct, the previous owner must have had both the fans running on the same circuit.

Well somehow i respect d rider had d courage to go out in d wet where most of them would be in pit. He had actually change to wet tires for wet session but unfortunately still crashed out. These crashes are unpredictable.

   to the rider n hope he is ok.

However i do not understand why u need to post such pics on net. Dun u think its abit inappropriate?
