thks fer ur pt of view blackreplica..! that is one nice 996 u got there..! i bet its a pretty rare classic..!

yeahhh.. the 999 need a lil gettin used to it to the looks.. but i can live with it.. not too bad afterall.. the 2006 999r Xerox WSBK is pretty SMACK..!

seen a couple of 749/999 for sale.. its within my budget range though.. hence i`m considering these bikes..

its true.. not only for ducati.. but it applies for most bikes too.. i`ve nvr stinge on my bike maintenance.. afterall, if u take good care of it.. it`ll be good to u..

maybe duc is a bit more pricey to maintain.. but heck..! its an italian we`re talkin about.. 3k a year.. hmmm.. i can work it out.. thks for the info..! =)

Hi bro. saw your post quite late.. anyway i'm a current owner of 749

for servicing wise, it's 10k per service interval instead of 12k per service interval for newer versions

i can't comment on reliability as i've not ridden newer ducatis before. but it has yet to fail me on the road which i need it towed

parts wise i have no issues with it. expandable parts like EO and plugs are generally the same as the japanese counterparts. 2 plugs for 749/999 vs 4 plugs for other inline 4 bikes.

wear and tear are the usual. stuffs you need to look out for in a 749/999. Tyres, brakes, etc..

specific problem with ducati is the clutch. It's dry and therefore the clutch plates will get worn off faster than those inline 4. well,it still depends on how you ride it. most 749/999 has low mileage and this shouldn't be a major concern unless the owner is a trackie.

one problem i've faced is that the engline check light. sometimes it's on but the bike performance is not compromised. i've researched it and other forum says it has something to do with the rpm sensor etc. my odometer is working correctly so i can't figure it out.

some ducati may faced problems with their voltage stabilizer/regulator. i've changed mine and it's working as it should.

as long as the owner services their bikes regularly, you shouldn't have a problem with these older ducati compared to the newer ones. they r v-twin and the torque will blow u away.

most owner who owns a ducati has another commuter bike. for my case, its a honda wave.

i do not advise riding a ducati superbike on a daily basis. well, at least not in my case
