I've been reading this thread for a while now, I have a Ducati 748 back in Australia and have been on the lookout for a Ducati in Singapore for a while now but have never managed to find the right thing. Then a few weeks back a minivan driver remove the question of "do I want to keep my ZX6R?" by helping to destroy it and then the next day I found an advert here on SBF for a nice looking 998 and decided to jump in and buy it as it looked to be in good condition!

Bike went in for a first service and got the belts replaced and valve clearances adjusted and an STM clutch slave cylinder added straight away, now I have a pile of parts on order from the US to help bring the bike back to better than new condition! It desperately needs to be geared down a bit and have the clutch replaced as it is extremely grabby and snatchy at low speed due to the standard tall gearing and a quite worn clutch pack, so I have sprockets and a new clutch basket, plates and springs on the way.

Otherwise it seems like a great bike, bit different to the 748 in some ways, very similar in others BUT way to quiet! Does anyone here have a set of slip ons they want to offload to suit the standard 45mm headers? Should be the same fit for 748/916/996/998 so if you have some spare termis or something lying around let me know :)

Also interested in any future Ducati group outings/rides. Would be fun to meet some more owners!

Weekend bike or daily commuting. I wouldn't recommend a termi on the road. Save the $500 fine and hassle.

Posted

I'm generally just commuting, the odd ride over to Malaysia, around town a little bit on the weekends etc.

What really annoys me is just about any Harley out of the factory will be as loud as a Ducati with termi's on it, every day I see scooters with ridiculous exhausts blasting out crazy amounts of noise and yet Ducati's become a target :(

Ideally I'd like to find some with silencer inserts that make them a little quieter around town but which I can pop out for riding over to Malaysia on the weekends. I know they would still be technically illegal without the piece of paper but it's not a bad compromise.

The other thing I noticed is the stock cans get really really hot where the carbon cans tend to not hold as much heat which is much more comfortable for a pillion having those things right by their legs.

How much trouble do people actually have with these things here? Are there certain areas/times that are targeted by police for crack downs on these things because I have honestly never really come across anything in all my time riding here.

The risk of getting caught with illegal exhausts is very high if you commute during morning and evening rush hour...thats the time when LTA is out in full force with the sole purpose of catching fellas with illegal exhausts. I don't recommend you get something not legal for road use.

If you try hard, there might still be legal exhausts obtainable in Singapore..for example on my old 996 SPS, I was still able to get GPR carbon slip ons for my bike, this was about 3 years ago. I just had to place an order with the distributor here. Without the GPR decals, they look almost 100% identical to any carbon muffler from termi or any other brand. The peace of mind having totaly street legal exhausts is worth it's weight in gold

Another option is to core your stock exhaust. If you don't mind the aesthetics of your stock exhaust, you can get an A & R exhaust kit for your stock exhausts and get them fitted. They basically turn your mufflers into straight-thru end cans just like aftermarket. However, it will be LOUD and will not pass inspection. In order to do that you need to fabricate a set of silencers for them (which can be removable when you want). Seng Kwang Metal Works is a great place to get the silencer's fabricated. Total cost will be in the region of SGD$500 for the kit, installation and fabrication of removable silencers

Reposting my ad from previous page (sorry if spamming)

Hello all.

Here's some goodies to bling up your dry clutch ducati.

These came with my bike from the previous owner but I now have a DP slipper clutch with it's own pressure plate and carbon clutch cover and I would prefer to use those items instead.

As you can see, condition is pretty much bloody excellent.

The open clutch cover is not a Rizoma branded item, only the pressure plate is.

The pressure plate retails online for 180USD or 230SGD which is already cheaper than any price you can get in singapore

I am asking:

1 - $150 SGD for the Rizoma pressure plate

2 - $70 SGD for the open clutch cover

Prices negotiable, and additional discount if you buy both

Contact me at 96510495

Thanks!

GPR Carbon ones sound like an interesting option. Really I would like something lighter and a little louder and would love the piece of mind of them actually being legal. As I mentioned as well the carbon ones tend to not soak up as much heat as the stockers which is good for the pillions legs. I'll try and track down some GPRs as well.

Seems like the local GPR exhaust distributor has disappeared or gone out of business? Tried emailing, calling the listed number and nothing. I also notice that they haven't been active on the forums for some time.

I looked up the GPR slip-ons to suit a 998 and GPR make some nice looking ones that are listed as fully Euro3 compliant and homologated for road use. I'm contemplating buying them and then taking them to get certified by LTA. The factory will provide a homologated for road use certificate with each set of pipes stating that they are EEC/Euro compliant and they supply an exploded schematic of the construction of the mufflers listing them for use on the specific model which should meet the basic LTA documentation requirements. If I understand correctly then it should just be a matter of get them fitted and send the bike for inspection and the for the homologation cert to be stamped by LTA when they pass. GPR is on the list of "approved" aftermarket exhaust brands issued by the LTA.

I'll have to dig out the paperwork for my old Leo Vince street legal from my ZX6 and see what is included in it.

From what I have read even if you buy a "street legal" exhaust that is in stock locally you will then need to have it fitted and send the bike with the same manufacturer document to be tested and stamped by the LTA.

Would be nice if there was a clear step-by-step guide to what you can and cannot do. I'd happily just go put down the cash today if someone locally had them in stock so I could avoid the headaches!

They can't chase you down with those panniers, you can give them the slip in the rush hour.

Well I just dug out the paperwork for my LTA approved Leo Vince from my old ZX6R and I have the same certificate and documents from the GPR factory for their 998 slip-ons. GPR is also one of the brands approved for local use by the LTA already. So I ordered a set of 998 slip-ons from the factory in Italy as the local distributor seems to have gone AWOL.

I'll update when they arrive and record as much information about the process as possible, hopefully save someone else some headaches in the future!

You will have to lose the original switch and get a separate banjo switch.

Not sure about local suppliers but they come up on ebay US pretty often or you could order from a specialist supplier like motowheels.com
