when i did my m4 for its interval servicing then, it costs me abt 450 from minerva. if im not wrong, the labour costs itself is 200. u'd probably pay have half the labour fees at michaels shop.

micheal is a very good mechanic but something i have to say.. the dude is abit old, so he might forget a thing or too. remember to check everythings in place like belt cover screws, slip on screw, etc, before leaving

If anyone's interested, I have oil sump plugs for the Ducati Superbike.

Unlike the factory ones, these are pre-drilled for safety wiring (and if you use KNN oil filters, you can safety wire them together), and are made of

Forged Stainless steel. It also has a very strong magnet (Stronger than factory) to catch metal bits floating in the sump.

I brought a few in to save on postage and that some other ducati rider's might benefit. I have only about 3 left. They're at cost at $38. Compared to the $50+ retail elsewhere in Singapore.

Interested, email me at [email protected]

hey dude,

thanks for the nice piece there. hmm. anyways the shop where michael now owns/works is opposite kallang motorsports. when u enter the industrial park, go straight (anti-direction tho) instead of turning left towards the duke workshop. micheals shop is on the right.

cheers

Hi all,

my regular mechanic Rayman is a former mech at Ducati before and knows the machine inside out. I have seen him operating on a few Dukes in his workshop before.

His place : Ubi Cycle at end of same stretch of road with MotorSales, Dexing

Servicing a Ducati requires the right factory tools. If they don't have it, forget about servicing a Duck properly. Even the shims on a Duck isn't compatible with Japanese bikes.

Its not a matter of just knowing the machines (which I seriously doubt any of the mechanics, other than Eugene and Michael, mentioned here do anyway)

Tell me a mechanic who "claims to know" just because he's touched one before, and I'll ask him one simple question, "Do you use a torque wrench? or do you just blindly guess"

Seriously, if you're looking to go on the cheap, maybe a Ducati isn't for you. Ducati's need alot of preventive maintenance and alot of TLC from the owners.

yea, i agree with you, servicing a duke requires a dedicated mechanic, with all the desmo know how and the proper tools to service one. we all know jap bike mechs dont torque load the various bolts, so yes, never send yer duke to one. u'd never get it running the same again.

but.. there has to be someone with all this know how, who will perform this level of dedicated work. if u guys know one, do let us know.

we all know minerva charges a whole lot more and an alternative, qualified mechanic would be nice.

unfortunately, im stuck with minerva ;) as i have to stick to their preventive maintanance intervals to fulfill the requirements for warranty

Do they calibrate their torque wrench regularly? Once you drop a torque wrench, you have to send it for calibration...

hurhur, another blind area. technically, torque wrench manufacturers, call for a cal yearly. im sure this isnt done, even with minerva

Well said, bro.

At least Minerva uses their torque wrench in their servicing, though not sure about the calibration part.

Easier to answer all.

Yes, calibration is important, but still using one is better than not using at all.

Maybe we all should go bug Minerva to do something about that. :-D

The alternative? DIY for simple things. Difficult? not really. Just imagine middle aged ladies assembled your engine down in Bolognia.

Yah, i do agree with you. Using the torque wrench on the bolts and adhering to the specs shld be the way for the V-Twin Ducati bikes. Just imagine the amount of vibration it handles compared to a inline 4 one. Desmo valves are another major issue and it will really take a mechanic very delicate effort to ensure the specs at intake and exhuast are followed rigidly. A good mech will normally double confirm the thickness of the shims by measuring it again using the micrometer or dial gauge before installation.

The servicing is no doubt higher than Jap bikes but it's worth it for the extra styling and performance for the Duke !

Is it because of overheating?Bikes when rch the overheating point cant start.Gt to wait a while for it to cool down.

Ducati battery seen quite weak.I dun really trust the wet cell battery.Does anyone kw the model to convert to dry type? The wet cell doesnt have the rating for it.I scare buy the wrong type.(Ah rating)

Sounds like your battery isn't charging. So it could either be your Alternator or Regulator.

If you've got a multi-meter, you can check the voltage across the battery to find out.

The first thing I would do though, is check the wiring from the alternator to the regulator.

yes, check the wiring from the alternator to the rectifier. happened to my bike. exactly the same thing. ride a while, battery went dead, charged up, ride again, battery when dead.

trace the wire and clean the contacts using contact cleaner for the plugs into the rectifier. measure the batt with a voltmeter to see the voltage goes up when you rev the bike.

dun jump into the alternator, rectifier busted conculsion. the vibrations from the bike do make things come loose.

Hi,

Welcome.

Maybe u shld look ard first, before u decide.

I saw in a newpaper tat a expat wanted to sell his 748 for 16K,still selling.

748 is quite rare in singapore.

The outer look is the same as 916,jus the engine, forks, rear shock diff.
