advise you to send down to a shop to inspect. From a P plate to a P plate :) So my advise really dont weigh a lot, Seems like you are loosing compression, check the gasket area, check to see if the the spark plug is loose, exhaust loose, you need to know where the air is coming from, it could be the bleeder, the gaskets, plug area, I guess It would be the cylinder and above area if the motor no strength. Maybe the air comes from a corroded exhaust? got popping? Blowing out smoke? If tightening a few nuts or spark plug doesnt solve your problem, send it in. For me I will send to shop when it can still be ridden.

For me,

spark plug every 2 - 3 oil changes some people go 10 000km

engine oil for me 1500km or lesser. some people go 3000 - 5000 km

brake fluid 1 year once, changed when get bike and change when change brake pad. Some go 2 years

tires change when tires worn, hard or cracked.

brake pads - about 1 - 1.5mm left

battery change when you find it is weak to turn the engine.

hope this helps. personally i dun engine brake so much because brake pads cheaper then engine n clutch parts.

Hey bro, I hope it's just loose something. Cause it was good for Awhile. Suddenly like that. But no smoke coming out. Pardon me whats a bleeder? Haha.. The only popping sound i heard was from the exhaust after I switch off engine. Like a "pop" 1 sec after I turn off the bike..

Could the heat be because I keep using engine break? Can hear n feel engine working damn hard when I do engine breaking.

Its normal for the engine to exhibit high rev when you down geared. Like Ber said, the sudden experience of hot air maybe a leak near your exhaust header.

i just re read your post, i misread it, it is normal for engine brake time for it to feel like it is working hard. earlier in your post, you mention engine brake not effective anymore, maybe that is because you were on higher gear, n 1 shift down you don't feel it. if you shift to gear 2 should feel some drag but remember to let go your clutch.

Thats what I thought too.. went all the way to G1. Better but def reduced braking power. Will try to go back and figure out. Seems like a loose screw I hope! Get back to you folks..

Hi Folks, Just got mine 3rd hand. TA200 Phantom. Gear four seems to be problematic. Gear three can hit 80kmph. Gear four max also 80kmph. Top speed at gear 5 only 100kmph. Any ideas whats the issue? Have been on a scooter for way too long (auto ftw). Cheers

try this formula of acceleration - 1 to move off, 2 to 40, then 3 to 70, then 4 to 80, 5 to 100, 6 to beyond 100.

the engine noise should be your gauge, but coming from riding a scooter, you may not be accustomed to the loud engine noise of a naked bike like phantom. Try working your engine a little harder. Also give you the opportunity to hear out any other funny noises at high rpm.

oh dear, I am suspecting my sprocket is changed to something larger. Any way to tell the tooth count. My has to be in 6th gear unless I drag. Is the tooth count stamped somewhere?

Was riding Gilera eh. Was about to bring my bike to the bike shop. Suspected that there might be a problem with the gearbox or something. Knn. Head out carpark cant even go up to gear three. Just called for tow.

Don't think its stamped. But its easy to open up the front sprocket cover to count. Only at most 14 teeth. The standard should be 13. The rear would take some time and a paint marker to do it. Should be 41 instead of 39.

hi matthias, thanks, went to count the front. it is 13. The back... I lost count. a bit difficult to count. I am finding that I have to change gear quite a bit. Maybe the speedo is not so accurate as I changed the front tire but it is still a 100/80-17 but not a very commonly used TA200 tire. 595mm in diameter

I will try to count again with a chalk but some parts are blocked by the swingarm and chain. I am hoping it is stock then it must be my tire that is causing my speedo to show a slower speed but I have to change to third gear even in carparks. Not sure if all phantoms are like that but with a total 160 or so kg loaded, it goes up a steep slope beautifully. This is my first bike, dun know what is should be.

Your bike seems powerful. You changed the sprockets before? Thanks for your help and info!

that sounds terrible man, buy bike scared like that, but once you get all fixed, I think it is a bike worth keeping.

Tried out some modifications with my previous bike and realized that when it comes to speed, stock items are still the best.

Yupe, our speedo has quite a high level of error. Even when I can run 140 at highways, I think the actual speed achieve at most is about 130. But I do have the protection of my windshield and may be misled by the relatively confortable ride.

quality sprocket manufacturer usually identified the sprocket by marking/stamped..details on it...look for any markings on the sprocket..u get answer there rather than count.

Just confirmed its called a clutch switch. But I cannot understand how it affects the headlight. I took it out and clean it and now headlight ok...

Wah! I normally change to 6th gear at 80hr/hour.

Last time, 70km/hr already change.

Go to 100km/hr then change will be when I am

a) Rushing for time

b) Pushing the bike to go higher speeds later.

mine even simpler,

1st gear 1-15, 2nd gear 15-30, 3rd gear 30-40, 4th gear 40-50, 5th gear 50-60, 6th gear 60++

I think it varies from bike to bike. Speedo cable and speedo wear and tear plays a part to the variance.
