There is a trick to do this. I think I read it somewhere here on the forum or somewhere else and I should really thank that person.

Whenever its hard to change gear to bring to neutral, for example you have were on higher gear and you have slowed down but haven't lowered gear. When you come to a halt, it might be difficult to change gear and come to neutral.

1 simple solution, dont force the gear change, just try once if it doesn't happen, revv the throttle a bit and then it will happen.

This problem had caused a lot of frustration when I bought my phantom initially, now I know the trick :cheeky:

Yes. motordiam teach me to revv abit to change to neutral gear.

When my bike is moving or engine stop it is easy change to neutral gear. When come to traffic light or halt is very difficult to bring to neutral.

What could be problem? gear box? clutch pad?

Can this be fix?

When you approach a traffic light start downshifting all the way to 1st and then to neutral, if hard then revv a bit it should work. I guess with old bikes this is normal, unless you want to overhaul the gearbox :)

Hi Naim,

Thank u. I will pay ah chong a visit at Planet and let him do a good check. Most probably Soon Hin at Yishun didn't do a good job when they service my carburettor, my bike just shut off. Luckily I not in the expressway. The fuel like didn't flow smoothly. After a few minutes of trying to start, its started. Till now I don't know why the engine shut down. The mechanic told me that is the current flows is the caused and another problem I am going to face, is the timing chain. When he can said anything I am going for a second opinion. Boss, thank you for replying.

Am looking for a good reliable mechanic who can help me check / test a bike before I buy it. I rode the bike yesterday and while it started ok, it seemed to stall immediately / often while idling in any gear.

Need to have it checked tomorrow (Saturday 17th).

Hi ppl

Anybody has excountered that the IU woudn't power up? I've change my IU to a brand new one and everything is working fine after i left VICOM. But when i reached hm, the IU isn't working again.

I'm suspecting the problem may not be the IU but the connection from my bike.

I'm also riding a phantom. Pls advice!

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm a new owner of a TA 200. I've encountered this exact problem too last night and was wondering about connection issues too. My IU stopped working apparently after my bike had to be pushed started as the electronic start just doesn't crank the bike up (possibly due to over-draining of the battery by my new fog lights). Was thinking of bringing it down to VICOM to get it checked, but if anyone has got any known quick-fix solution, wouldn't mind trying it out first..so, anybody?

Try dismantling ALL the cables from the battery, then reconnect the IU power cable to the battery.

Check if IU working if ok that means wire loose. Very common with single cyclinder bikes with more vibration.

Then reconnect back all the power cables.

open up your seat. check if the iu unit is still connected to the negative terminal of the battery.

The age doesnt rly matter... If its maintained well, even 10 yr old phantoms are gd.. main thing eif phantom is d cam chain tensioner. Wen idling, make sure thr are no "tick tick tick" sounds.. then check d engine for any leakages.. make sure all electricals working.. check d fork n rear suspension as well.. n lastly of cux COE expiry..

Hi, I just bought TA200. My bike very hard to switch to neutral gear. Others gear no problem.

What is the problem.

TIA

Probably clutch cable too loose. Check free play like Naim said if don't know how, go motorshop adjust.

B@phomet, you live Ang Mo Kio opposite Bishan park right? I can go your place adjust next week. This week busy week for me.

Hi guys, I'm a new phantom rider, sorry if I ask 2 noob question...

1. Can I ask if the IU eats battery charge even when bike is turn off and sit in the carpark? If so, is there a way to turn it off or is it illegal to make a switch to turn off?

2. I parked my bike for a few days (never touch at all) .

Just now first try to start can hear the spark plug but it fail to start. Then after a few tries cannot even hear the spark plug.. and totally no sound. I think my battery seem maybe flat, and I push start it myself.. I was overjoyed when I see the bike spring to life. But my joy was shortlived, because I ride a few rounds, park, drink a coffee and come back to bike and again cannot start.

I wonder why after riding a few rounds the battery should charge up a bit right? How come still cannot start? Is my battery spoilt by not using it few days? The neutral light and headlights and horn still work though cannot start.. do I need to pushstart it everytime from now? Will pushstart and let the engine idle for maybe 1hour charge the battery?

Now my feeling is half sad half frustrated.. please help advice me if you can especially what should I do.. really appreciate it.
