LED has equaled or perhaps even surpassed HID.

The problem with LEDs is not their brightness or output. It's how to throw their light. With the right lensing, they can throw light better than conventional bulbs.

The R8, new A6 and new Ducati 1199 come with all LED headlamps.

LED surpass HID?

Never saw that one.

Do you guys know if they got LED with the sockets for normal bulbs?

Like H1 or H7?

Firstly I am so sorry for the late reply ..... soooooo busy ......

Is there any (blue) strobe led that I can replace with my stock blub? I have 2 seperate headlamps and one of them is for highbeam only. Or any strobe led that I can place inside the headlamp casing with alternate switch?

I wana scare the sh!t out of the lorries who always drives along extreme right lane along BKE on the evenings....

Hmmmm....... your needs are rather unusal - cant do it yet.....

It seems to me HID,due to the ballast and bulb.

Price wise obviously HID more pricey. But those made in Taiwan are more cheaper, durability wise you should know.

I have seen one set made in GERMANY.America is popular too

HIDs is a good platform but U hv to use the right lamp casing....

Im Using the hella 450. its using h3 right? 1 side is down liao..

check the manual

For a start, without filiment is already a good idea!

HID got more reach and lumens than LED.

give it a couple of years, there are CREE LEDs that are pretty impressive, but I haven't seen them on bikes/cars yet.

It is already here mate........

Mate, LEDs light throw work best with optics lens.....

Yes but the plug & play leds bulbs has no throw - good only as DRLs

Yeah. Like I said. Use the right lensing system.

Check out the article on the R8's all LED headlamps. Google it. Interesting.

Guys, HIDs or LEDs for Off-Road better ?? :giddy:

I personally dun think LEDs can replace HIDs in terms of OFF-ROAD lighting System ............. What do you guys think ?? :cheeky:

HID is certainly brighter then LED :) but HID is not legal in singapore

Posted

HIDs are legal if installed into projector lamps or HID compatible lamp casing.

Unfortunately, the aftermarket always install HIDs into halogen lamp casing causing lights to be thrown everywhere.

LED as a working lamp platform are already there - now keep watch on the new development as they are applied to the Driving lamp platform.

Try googling on the VisionX Transporter series ........ & get shock.......

The HID installation is done by a contractor at s$65 a pc, subjected to your requirement. The Halogen H& is priced at s$9.50 each & HID H7 bulb is Priced at s$55 & anti-glare version is s$65. The HID H7 is available in 4300 & 6500 kelvin color.

I have both the Comet 450, and the FF200, although these lamps are using 55w bulbs, they are no match even for my 12w LEDs.

My 35w HID is still brighter and whiter than my 12w LED but I like LED, it's compact unlike HID where there is a ballast.

4x4 likes big big foggies because they look fierce but these lamps produce more heat than light. Another factor is price but LED light bars (like those seen on Transformer movie) are coming down fast.

The comet, not only generate lots of heat.. A killer for the battery!!

Both I agree too....

LEDs are great....but lifespan still not stable cos of heat dissipation ..... Not matured enough.

Automotive 12/24Vdc or Commericial lighting 240Vac also facing similar problem

If this is solved... LED will be the common thing in time to come..... Future beholds so wats next...

Most LEDs are using the casing as heat sink to dissipate the heat. Those that I have used for slightly less than 2 years have proven to be reliable, and robust as I go offload with them.

Currently testing out a pair of 20wLED. According to the specs, if there's is sufficient cooling, it will perform at 1600 lumen but if there is insufficient cooling such as when the vehicles is stationary for a long time, it will dim to 600 lumen ( perform like a 12w led) for self preservation.

Leds are definitely here to stay as they give automakers a lot of flexibility in their design.

It's is perfectly legal to mount auxiliary lamps regardless if they are HID, LED, Tungsten, florescent, candle light...etc

on cars or bikes but while in Singapore, you are not allowed to turn them on. You are also required to cover such lamps when in Singapore.
