Talking abt Or Jian, apparently e one at Whampoa is e no.1 in Singapore according to Makansutra. Not really to my liking though.

However i can nv forget e or jian at e stall just in front of Lee Gardens in Hatyai. None in SG can compare.

Why four strokes when all you need is two?

anyone likes tulang...??

my favourite's at circular road, juz behind boat quay. the tulang's cooked with a lovely savoury and rich gravy that goes well with bread or prata... the meat is moist and the marrow is full and creamy~

tried a few stalls at newton circus before and almost  coz i felt so cheated, cooked in red sugar that makes everything too sticky sweet... the bones are skinny and EMPTY~

recently had kambing soup at GP R&R (on the way back to SGP) and found that each bowl of clear soup comes with 2 pieces of tulang~!~! meaty and full of marrow (they even provide u with a straw so that u dun have to knock the bone)... the flavour is savoury without being too pungent and over-powering~

got good tulang to recommend, please post here... :lovestruck:

If you all want to have a taste of affordable, delicious Western food, can try this small establishment located at the corner of City Plaza. The place is called Pelangi Food Court at the first level. The chicken steak and the steaks (garlic, mushroom, black pepper) are really good, priced at $9.90 and $10.90 respectively. Even the pizza is good and priced at $9.90 for beef and chicken pizzas. Go give it a try... :thumb:

*continues happily to post about food* :hungry:

really nice otah is quite hard to find eh...?? grilled for too long, it becomes dry... some not spicy enuff, others too over-whelming that u can't taste anything else... worse are those with fish bones and scales inside~ or soggy and tasting like expired fish paste....

nice nice otah (IMMHO) should be grilled juz nice~ abit moist, slightly spicy and best with bits or chunk of lovely fish meat incorporated into the savoury paste... regardless if it's wrapped in coconut or banana leaves~

some of the nice otah i've tried so far is at bedok 85, katong laksa stall, AMK S11, joo chiat (they sell raw otah too...), jalan besar S11, bukit indah and malacca.

the famosa chicken rice shop in malacca (jonker street) has a really wonderful otah which is a MUST TRY~!~!~! smooth paste with thick chunky bits of fish, spicy and savoury.... squeeze some calamansi juice for extra oomph!!! :lovestruck:

just another of my 0.00000002 cts again~

So sorry for me to disappear for so long. I like to make another contribution here to the EAT! thread. Thanks to Princess Chiaki keeping the thread barely alive. Now I'm back with full ideas and places for makan.

Soup restuarant! Have anyone thry it before. I bet some ppl like me tried before.

What can I say about this restuarant? They serve only soup? Yeah, they serve great soup especially their soup of the day! Damn whopping home made and thick and sweet like the olden when your grandma cooked or even much better i think.

Soup restuarant is opened by Mr Mok and his family in rememberence of his Samsui grandma or great grandma. Her picture is posted at the entrance of the resturant.

Here are the review from the wedsite:

SOUP RESTAURANT

It has very much to do with its owner, Mr. Mok and his family history. His grandmother was a Samsui woman. These legendary womenfolk labourers in their red and blue hats helped build modern Singapore. Their frugality and dogged determination to work hard gave birth to a brand of food - the Samsui Ginger Chicken. Samsui women would largely exist daily on a high fibre vegetarian diet. Dried fish would be a bonus. They saved and ate thriftily in order to remit their monies back to their ancestral home in Samsui (the Three Gorges), Kwangtung in China. Come Chinese New Year, it would mean a feast for them, steaming a plump chicken, marinated in ginger. Shredded ginger would then be tossed in some stock and sesame oil and served as a dip. The cut up boneless pieces of chicken are dipped in the ginger sauce and (this is the best part), wrapped in lettuce and then chomped.

Today, this dish is served with some finesse. It comes fully de-boned, placed around a huge round platter with a bowl of the ginger dip in the middle. A stack of nicely trimmed lettuce leaves accompanies it. You simply pick, dip, wrap and eat!

Soup Restaurant Outlet in Singapore: Causeway Point; Jurong Point Shopping Centre; Suntec City Mall; Compass Point Shopping Centre; Paragon; United Square; DFS Scottswalk.

My opinion: The chicken taste great with dip! The chicken only taste 1/2 good without the dip! Wah! Powerful dip where it not only prevent flu and cold, it basically give the non-greasy feeling when the skin of chicken slurp in your stomach!

Another dish for recommendation: stired fry potatoes leaves (Ah Gong or Ah Mah style). The serving can be quite small but its pretty nice. So far, the soup of the house had been very tasty and nice enough for me. Anyone else tried their other soup, please comment here!

P.S. Going down now there for lunch! Yum Yum!

Its not easy because not all may have the same liking of food. Best is to take down the address and try for yourself, self exploration is better to me.

The q is uaually quite long there.... If u r there the 1st time, try their "Botak Burger", with cheese (set). I'm sure you'll love it. Moreover its authentic American style - which means big portion of fries. Their fries is slightly coated with a layer of their unique spice which make it more tasty. It is also fun to read thru' their menu (a thick yellow coloured stack of notes). It contain stories, jokes & detail intro of the choice you are about to order. The stall has many waiters/waitress and they all speak good English. Some weekends nights you may even catch an Ang Mo babe serving you!!! Could be Bernie's daughter! (Bernie is the boss btw). Try their GIANT hot dogs! Size of a microphone man!!! :thumb:

best to go botak jones on a weekday/weeknight coz the weekend crowds are quite horrifying (more so when super hungry), and they run out of items real quick~!~!

went with 4 fwens the other time and had:

1. u crazy what burger

2. lamb chops

3. cajun chicken

4. fish & chippies

(items 1-4 are sets)

5. salad (to compensate the too-much-meat guilt)

trust me, the portions are BIG enuff to leave the 5 of us feeling very full....
