Hi all, ex-rider here, also ex-forummer (lost password to my old nickname -_- )

Been driving for the last few donkey years and am totally out of touch with the biking scene..

I'm looking to get a 2B bike for only 6 to 12 months before selling it off back again.

Best scenario is, I buy for 2.5K, and 6 months to 12 months later, I sell it off for 2.5k. Probably needs a little luck, but what are my best chances? Worst come to worst, buy 2.5k, sell at 2k..?

No scooters please, I never trusted those tiny little tires, cuz its *my* ass on the line.

Preferences:

1) I like Sumos (Super Motard, or SM) if ever possible

2) Manual Gear

3) Rear Disc Brake

4) Hopefully better-than-most for cornering (ex Mito Evo owner hehe)

5) FC can be a consideration, but not that important

6) I used to cruise and ride hard at 120-130kmh on my Mito and Phantom200 comfortably, no vibrations; this would be great too -> do Cubs have enough balls to handle naturally-aggressive riders?

But obviously again, the topmost priority would be the highest resale value.

1) Highest amount of transactional volume

2) Lowest depreciation rate

3) High demand

ANY bike type and model EXCEPT scooters..

Budget is up to 2.5k cash... or also able to consider 2.5k cash + COI (for even brand new ones, no price limit, really..) and when resell, still lose only about $500 at the end of the day ^.^

The *speed* at which I effect a resale is also important as I project that I'll be too busy hunting for buyers..

Oh I'm 27 btw and never claimed, so I think insurance cost also should play a part!

Hopefully this community may be able to contribute to this thread as I'm sure there are MANY people like me whom prioritize resale value above all others, thank you!

rxz, nsr sp, krr, phantom all those common bikes. confirm will have resale value.

xr200/xl200 also holds its value well imho cause they are lower seat scramblers suitable for girls/short people and are not bad looking too... but it is rear drum brake

brand new bikes of whatever model and brand is out of the question. i think sp is ok..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

I just thought of something that goes... is there anyone out there also that wants me to COI for max 6 mths at $100 p/m will also suffice!

Or I rent their bikes for 6 months at $100 p/m oso can!

The polls so far seem interesting in that the phantoms and cubs are leading, even though the posts suggest NSR SP. Hope you guys dont mind putting in the votes /and/ polling too ^.^

Brand new bikes out of the question, why? Depreciation will be too steep within 6 months? I somehow thought that I could always look towards selling a 6 month old bike at a $600 discount and ppl are sure to take it up, since it's almost brand new, but with a $600 "discount"~ anyone experienced or seen something like this?

buy my bike. selling a pulsar for only 2k. even if you wanna sell after 6-12 mths, i think you can still sell for 1.6k at least. cos FBA plate only. and i'm the one who kena chopped by shop, buying at 2.8k last year. fc is good, but top speed is 110km/hr and recommended cruising is 90-100km/hr but it feels fast.

for me, this bike can handle my aggressive riding, tyre can be used right till the edge. ;) cornering capabilities is tested at at least 70km/hr. only if the rider got the balls. like you, the only reason i'm selling is due to changing to class 2a SM, wr 400 after passing my 2a which is next week!

i think your best bet is :

1. buy a classic, got chance of selling for a profit or minimally holding its value

but for classic... it might be hard to find a buyer (in singapore) when you really need to sell urgently... also if it breaks down might be headache if parts not easily available... what's more old bike will have more issues

6-12 mths? I'd just get an indestructible rat bike that's reasonably fun and easy to maintain. To me, a Phantom type with lots of exposed metal and chrome is something to buy as a keepsake and customise, not get rid of within a year.

I'd get one of the more powerful cubs of an older model and go nuts with it. Y125 and Sparks can hit 140 easily and are surprisingly stable on the highway. Since they're so light, they barely sip fuel if the prev owner hasn't ruined it with "racing mods"... that usually make the bike slower, harder to use (I'd rather have meaty low end torque than useless horsepower at 9000rpm!!) and more prone to breakdowns.

I'd seriously get an RXZ because it's pretty much dirt cheap, very common and if the market value is so low already... how much depreciation can there be! And they're not slow in the right hands :3

Judging from TS specifications, might want to look at those no-value modded Gileras. One of them was on sale for only $600. Likely not to pass inspection due to mods but 6 months? Disposable fun lol.

Beat-up Y125Z or spark can also do decent speed. They're surprisingly stable on the highway due to good design, don't complain if ridden hard, and can be cheap. If you fancy the rat bike "so long as engine and wheels are great, I don't care for appearance" fashion.
