Pre-CNY cum v day Washing Session

MEETING VENUE: Bishan st 13 blk 167A MSCP (behind Zion / Bishan Home)

MEETING TIME: 930am

Wash + Chitchat

PS: i have a bottle of rust remover, i used it when i was riding a phantom. still have alot more. bought from home fix at $10++.. any1 interested pm me.. self collect. any token amount will do. :cheers:

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Revival of the polishing thread.

 

If you want to clean your Lexan (ie, plastic) windshield, do NOT use glass cleaner, car shampoo, and god forbid, car WAX. You will ruin the surface of the plastic eventually. Sometimes you'll even see white deposits forming. And erm, if you ever put Turtle Wax on the thing it's a ***** to get off.

 

How to clean then? Vinegar.

 

Wipe on in generous quantities and watch the acid dissolve all the irritating white deposits leaving you a shiny new windscreen. Try not to let the acid drip on anything.

 

Ps. Rain X or equivalent products are not compatible with lexan. Leaves lots of deposits for you to burn off with acid.

i hate to admit that i've never washed my bike before even after more than a year of riding. LOL. as such, i'd like to organize the next session of "polishing/washing/cleaning your phantom". i live at the west side, upper bukit timah area. interested parties please quote this post and update with your names so we can settle on a location and time! (probably weekday night)

I used to use Turtlewax Chrome Polish to polish my old phantom's pipe, works wonders.. And it comes in a nondescript white bottle and is cheap to boot.

 

yeah, head about the high response of the turtlewax chrome as well. maybe i should try it .. how often do you polish your phantom though? on a regular basis?

supposing the day before you polish the bike, and it rains the next day. will it affect in any way ?

I use 3M gloss polish, pretty good. I polish average either fortnightly or at worst, monthly. For my polish even if it rains the next day and i ride or after rain ride, the finishing is still there, but it does fade off after 4-5 days under these conditions, factor my study place has no shelter and i don park under mscp, I would say its still pretty resilient.

 

Have heard good feed back for turtlewax too, planning to switch to that once i finish this bottle. Or perhaps even auto glym bike range of products if the price is worth it..
