You ride long distance yet?

Some method I used to counter microsleep when no rest area nearby: yelling out loud, drinks lots of water beforehand to induce knee boggling pee urging sensation. this one also forced you to stop about every 2-3 hrs.

this is dangerous.... got 1 time in the hot afternoon sun... i was on the bike riding in malaysia... my mind went blank and i hear nothing despite my loud bike exhaust... the next seconds i woke up when my tired hit the red soil on road side.. luckily i was riding slow that time.. manage to pull the bike back on road and ride ahead to stop and drink water... another way to avoid this, you also can chew the chewing gum.... can last you longer.. if keep shouting can sore throat man. haaha..

SLEEPING ON THE ROAD

Something that Affects all of us on Tour.

(especially on a nite ride after a day of work)

But - No matter even if we slept well the nite before.

No one is Spared!

The Last Guy that didn't get away end up smashing into

the pillar of a overhead bridge in Thailand.

Spinal injuries - unable to use hands now.

IMPORTANT!

Recognize:

That u Are falling asleep....

- Feeling tire & unable to prevent your eyes shutting.

Do Something About It:

- Some good suggestion from above... Including watering the Plants.

U need a break... Be it 5min or more...- If u are in a group...

Speed up.. Go Ahead...

Then slow down or stop at a safe place with your hazard/signal lites

If u pull into a rest area... Go pick up a can of 100plus...

Does wonders.

Close your eyes for a few seconds & it may end your ridiing.

Power Nap of 20min will refresh u for the next 2hrs....

Ahem.... make sure u have someone to guard your stuff at the petrol stn.

Or u maybe continuing your nap in a bus home..

Hi all,

This is a very good and relevant post.

We sometimes underestimate the effect the elements have on our

bodies, esp the Sun and the Rain.

I've found something to work very effectively among fellow bikers, esp

on long trips.

it's a efferverscent tablet called Berocca, it's packaged in a green tube with 10 tab in each tube. Drop 1 tab into a small bottle of plain water, wait for the tab to fizzle out and you have the best food for your brain and nervous system!

I've been recommending this as the easiest and best counter measure to drowsiness. I've personally can feel the effect within 5mins.

It's got all the minerals and the whole Vit B family packed into it.

Read more about it: http://www.berocca.co.za/

It's available at all good pharmarcies or health shops.

I'm not earning anything from this, just wish to share some good news :)

Happy Riding! :thumb:

Thanks Grey Ghost, never knew such things existed.

It is easy to say "Get enough sleep" the night before a trip but in actual fact it is very difficult for most of us to sleep well before a trip due to excitement or other sleeping disorder.

Quoted from the Berocca web site:

Berocca’s unique combination of vitamins and nutrients is clinically proven to enhance concentration, reduce tiredness and combat feelings of stress¹. A high dose of B-vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients work in synergy to improve brain and nerve functioning throughout the day.

Essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and zinc play an important role in improving your brain’s performance and providing you with longer periods of sustained mental energy. As Berocca is free of artificial stimulants and caffeine, taken daily it is the perfectly healthy alternative to keep your mind in shape, allowing you to put in those extra hours to get the results you want.

:thumb: will test it out personally one day to see it's effectiveness.

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

Hi bro,

Totally agree on the pre-ride anxiety. Happens to me all the time, also don't get good sleep on the first night out.

Good of you to highlight the key points about this :)

I'm sure you'd feel the effect!

Cheers!

Tire, feel sleepy, don't ever think that you can handle it, you might not even had a chance to realize it, because by than somthing already happened and it's games over.

I infact very lucky that it had happen on me a few time, all this just happen in split second.

Those who lucky enough still alive, others are no longer around. no argument, no debate, either stay or gone, you decide. Don't push your limit.

Problem when traveling in a group, no one will want to admit tire and ask for a rest. This is how things happen......sad

Not sure whether off topic about micro sleep but i used to have sleep apnea before i went for an operation.

How to know if you have sleep apnea? best of all - go see a sleep specialist. In my case i don't get any dreams at all (funny i didn't recall having any dreams for like 3 years - not joking) - and wake up many times at night to go pee. and people think you stop breathing when you snore!

can even fall asleep even in meetings, driving...sigh!

Went to see sleep specialist and it was so bad he ordered an operation asap.

Now a lot better - so can ride bike safely again.

TRUE.

Since young, I cannot do without at least 8 or 9 hours of sleep. If I'm deprived of that even by an hour, the rest of the day is like ****.

For me, if I were to go for touring at night, I will begin to feel the kick at midnight, followed by 3am. It gets worse at 5am. By 6am, I feel my brain imploding and I want to vomit. I hate night touring. I cannot concentrate at all.

:weep:

I don't understand how the other riders can do it. I cannot.
