Hi all, got another qn regards 2 strokes... Apologise to thread starter for hijack.

Have heard many says the authorities were very strict on 2 strokes, esp its smoke emission. Thus have difficulties to pass inspection, or get summons even on the road! Its that true? Am thinking biking again after long break, but these rules saddens me...

depends on your 2 stroker

so far i havent been stopped before for emissions issue... but i dont ride her daily

inspection wise, i always send her to a shop to do the inspection for me. the amount of smoke emitted from the cold exhaust pipes of a 350 2 stroker that hasn't been ridden for a week can be pretty amazing.

she doesnt get excessively smoky once warmed up and ridden normally, but if the inspectors tried hard enough she might produce quite a fair bit

this year though, ill try to send her for inspection myself to see if she can pass. if not, there's always the bikeshop :p

I just got my ride yesterday and this morning when I tried to start it, it couldn't start. Then about 5 mins of trying, it idled for 2-3 secs before dying.

Finally, a "brainwave", the choke lever. I managed to start the bike! Okay my question is, do I always have to pull the choke lever whenever I start the bike in the morning.

Thanks

hm... for me, the choke never made any difference on any of the bikes i owned before... 4 stroke or 2 stroke.. i wonder why

i found that if i havent started my bike in a while, i turn off the ignition, turn on the fuel tap and slowly kick her a few times, then turn on the ignition and kick her firmly once, usually she starts

as for the dying off, could be that your idling is abit low?

Haha... thank you for your nice reply Barefoot, now can have piece of mind liao!

Like to check again, what kinda 2T is safe enough to use?? Those sold at petrol kiosk like Mobil, and which is good enough to use? Saw lately at kiosks these 2T`s ain`t cheap anymore... last time when I rode is about $4.00 per litre, and nows seems $16.00 also have!

don't use the cheapo 2t at petrol kiosk la. but dont need to buy those >$20 kind la. something in between is fine. i use elf

don understand why alot ppl say 2 stroke higher maintainance la, very troublesome to maintain la... etc.

i only change my gear oil (engine oil) every 5000km or when gear shifting begins to suck.

2T i use good one, Motul 710. it wont produce any white smoke when engine is warmed up even if you zua throttle, not much smell either.

if you use cheapo 2T of cos will have much more white smoke and smell la...

higher chance of piston jam also...

i hate to be behind those 2 strokers that emits alot of white smoke and smell horrible. when they accelerate off when traffic light turns green... fwa! white smoke gao gao ah! :cheeky:

Am on a 2stroker myself but I really hate being behind a poorly tuned smokey 2stroke bike too.. Especially the fellas who use all those perfumed 2T.

Only once did I bought a bottle of that. Even then, it was like emergency on the way back from KL. Once I got back to SG, I got the mech to flush out that 2T and stick to what I'm used to which is Motul710

ok just sent my 2 stroker for inspection and she passed with flying colours. so the conclusion is that the smokiness will not be a problem as long as you maintain her well, ride her a bit harder before inspection and feed her reasonable quality 2t

Good grade 2T play a part.I''ve compared using Petronas fully symthetic which cost around RM25 and Shell mineral one.Result the former emitted less smoke smooth acceleration and the latter give out more smoke and dun talk about performance.

Agreed. i've ridden 4-strokes n bigger bikes, but 2-stroke bikes r a joy to ride. maintainence is about the same as 4-strokes n it's not troublesome at all. I top up my 2T about once a month--what's so hassle about that?

However, it is important to use good quality 2T--that's something that we should spend a bit more on. I use motul710 too. The bike willl run and accelerate v smoothly with good 2T. Those sold at the petrol kiosks are cheap but crap..make the engine sluggish and produce a sharp acidic smell.

i also use a good engine oil..Motul300V, so I only change it once every 5000km--no problems at all. So far, i've passed all the inspections with zero issues and I still enjoy my 2-stroke engine.

indeed 2 stokers are more fun to ride on! though not all might agree with me, it takes more skill to ride a 2 stroker than a 4 stroker. it's about having good throtte control in an narrow power band...

unfortunately the horrible FC turns me off from bigger cc 2 strokers...

cant imagine my petrol costs if i were to ride lc tong for transport purposes in a traffic like sillypore... pocket sure bleed ah...

thing about 2 stroke bikes like nsr, esp nsr since i own one, is that all more than 10 yrs old already and sellers might not have kept them very well maintained. meaning the big big parts that take very long to wear out are already wearing out and you duno when they will fail. for me i just spent 1 k just on repairs for my bike last mth. i owned the bike for one yr already. coe ending this june.

If I hit you and you hit me, and I hit you back and you hit me back, and go on, you see, that goes on ad infinitum. It just never ends.
