Ur description of the meter setup is of those Ver S and PB1. Version usually don't have fuel gauge but temperature gauge instead.

Wif regards to idling..its probably carbs issue. Check if ur air filter is clean and not clogged with grits etc. Starting as per ur description..its normal for old bikes (even some new when idling is adjust too low)..buit its the 1.-2k that is of concern. The idling screw is in between the centre inner carbs hanging upside down. Its like a 'flower' castle like big screw head. Looking upwards clockwise increase idle..lowering is the other way round. No..don't have to take off tank. For non Vtec..the hand can reach.

thanks for your help will definately try to adjust the idling speed first. thanks alot!

i read somewhere that for people who change gear at high rpm it is better to use thinner EO,

while thicker EO are for people who change gear at lower rpm.

Actually what is the normal rpm to change gear?

Use to ride phantom, no rpm meter one.... :(

Huh???...read from where...who is the writer..etc?... certainly like to read about it..interesting in deed. So in GP...all racer are using very thick eo?

Don't read too much...learn to experience it. veryone speaks for the eo they use and I don't see any solid documented facts that back up their claims..only there own opinion nia.

No good eo or by brand on the "Off the shelf" is gonna suit bikes of different age...one has to find various grade type to suit their ride. What is blended and added makes the difference..have to provide performance and provide minium wear and tear...long interval change is a bonus. Its not all about thick and thin eo..its the lube property and viscosity that counts for the age of the bike it suit. In short..nothing to do with changing gears in hi or lo rpm.

I think following the manufacturers advice on using proper engine oil is the best way to go. Those guys are probably much more knowledgable than I am.

http://www.shell-racing.com.au/shell_advance_4T_20W-60_racing_engine_oil.html

Shell's website lists their Superbike oil as 20W-60. (I'm still looking for a manual for my VerS, but I think the oil recommendation is 10W-40) but I think this oil is 'thicker' than most recommended eo. I'm also pretty sure that superbikes change gears at a high RPM.

My dad's Ver S is overheating again. I managed to pinpoint the source of the coolant leak from the connection mid-cylinder, right under the carburettor. I believe it's where the coolant is pumped into the cylinder water jacket. There's a metal catch surrounding the medium-sized hose and it was hissing after I left the bike running stationary for half an hour.

The temp light goes on and the fan does not cut on also. So I think the thermostat is also dead. This contributed to a high amount of vapour pressure in the coolant system, causing the seal mid-cylinder to rupture and releasing coolant vapour.

Does FJT still sell Ver S thermostats and the coolant hose seal? Any idea how much it would cost? Thanks William!

Hope u know where and what the thermostat is. When fan don't cut "ON"..its usally the faulty radiator fan switch or the fan fuse blown. The radiator fan switch is the one that is sticking out on the left side of ur radiator side midway.

When coolant don't cycl or flow thru the coolant system path..its either the coolant pump is bad or the thermostat (located inside the radiator left top mounting..cannot be seen unless you open up the tube junction housing).

William, do you have the part number for the gasket where the coolant enters the engine head? Or should I simply ask FJT to take out their book of part numbers?

I haven't tried grounding the switch yet. Will do so tomorrow. But suspect its the thermostat for normal wear and tear.

Hi all, some question after riding Ver S for the 1st day.

Is the "tack" sound when changing gear normal?

The speedo meter have 2 sets of numbers, on top one is mileage, below one is for?

Ah pek, are you free to take a look at my bike?

I can come down and find you.

Thanks.

My VerS makes a "tack" sound when I change gears. I'm pretty sure it's normal. All bikes make some sort of noise when changing gears in my experience (there are A LOT of bikes I haven't ridden though). Next oil change I'm going to try some more expensive oil like Motul or Mobile 1 and see if it makes mine less pronounced.

But, the numbers below your odometer is your trip odometer, or trip meter. You can use the little dial on the side of the gauge cluster to roll the numbers and re-set to 0000. You can use it see how long you have been riding, how far you can go on a tank of gas, etc... Hope this helps.

No wonder. He looked at me and gave me the quote and I just had this feeling that he was simply plucking a figure out of the air. Didn't bother to ask for a discount cos it's a parts distributor for goodness sakes!

I'll go to the other shops mentioned next time. What in the world is happening to businesses these days.
