Not much advanatages actually. I know some riders like aftermarket damper cause it can be set very stiff but it will defeat the purpose of countering tank slap as it will just transfer the "slap" momentum to the rear resulting in the whole bike wobble.

But of course to have is better than don't have. Stick to the stock will do. Maybe service it by changing the oil. I will recommend using stock viscosity oil but I don't know the weight. Maybe 15?

But if die die must change, I am interested to try Scott rotary damper instead. However it will be top mount and is quite expensive due to additional mounting bracket.

If you are considering Ohlins, take note there is a newer model. I couldn't remember the details. Saw it on other forum.

hyperpro is always within budjet for the streets.

dont like top mount. my bike is park in a public area. ive seen them n even me i know i could remove them in 10 mins.

i wonder which shop could do servicing of damper. as i did change the oil with one of the forumer to a heavier oil.

up side is well it claims to counter tank slap

down side is. quite heavy for street riding lar.

Then just change back to lighter or stock oil viscosity and ride first then decide again. I know the effect of heavier oil, tried it before on my 750. Don't like it either. Or maybe ask yourselves, have you encounter tank slap all these while? If no, then stock is good enough.

Of course those aftermarket might have some complex damping design which might work better but then it up to you to justify if it worth the extra $ considering the stock is good enough.

Why not change the oil yourselves? It works like a syringe. Just remove a allen bolt (should be obvious) from the damper body and keep pumping the rod to drain the oil out. When topping up the oil, if you don't want to risk having air bubble inside, you could insert the whole damper inside the new oil and slowly pull the rod to suck in the oil. But if you are talking about replacing those seals, I don't think there are OEM parts available. Ain't sure if there are compatible "O" rings.

back then when i change the damper oil, i still thinking of getting that 300km/h mark. so scared of that tank slap issues

nowdays

i just like to cruise at 200km/h. most of the time 2 up.

city riding is very heavy and felt very tight

i inspect my damper, no leaks so no need for the oil seal change.

n yah u r right, oem has serve its purpose for me juz need to lighten up the oil. go back to stock settings.

Ya, our bike rack angle plus our bike weight, not that easy to get tank slap. Pure breed sport bike and scrambler with steep rack angle are more affected.

For me,

Engine oil - ~8k km

Oil filter - Every alternate oil change

Spark plug - normal 15k km, Iridium ~45k km

Else you can just follow what the owner manual recommend.
