I am considering a 2nd hand car.

Its sort of a 'trial' to see if I have means to look after a car (not financial-wise but savvy-wise).

If u r interested in getting a new car, i recommend u Hyundai Avante...

My dad is a tester there...

He recommend me to get one....

PM me if u r interested...:angel::cheeky:

if not, rent a car whenever you need it.

no burden, no maintenance or responsibilities.

cuz even 2nd hand cars now are consider high priced compared to the times when COE is low. when you buy 2nd hand car at high price, you will lose more as COE is low but you buy high.

Posted

you will conjure a reason to buy a car when you want to buy a car. haha.

thats why there are so many cars in singapore.

becos we want them not that we need them.

Get an affordable Jap Car (Min) and a proper bike. Car be it red/black plate depends on your affordability. To me the car is just a transport so don't bother splurging your life savings on it. You're better off owning properties for your family to live comfortably. After all, whatever you own belongs to one Man and his family.

Ever consider joining those Share-A-Car companies?

it does not make any economical sense if you uses the car every weekend.

End of the day it depends on your ability to manage the finance.

Bills and loans zzz :deal:

I'm riding a S4 and an OPC Proton. I feel that OPC car is good, suits my needs. UNLESS~! It rains and you have a lot of stuff to carry that cannot fit into the box. $20 is a guaranteed giveaway to LTA.

Drive : Proton Saga 1.3M SJN plate (11th June 10 - Present)

Ride : Honda S4 Revo FBC plate (12th July 08 - Present)

Former Ride : Phantom TA200 FV plate (9th September 05 - 12th July 08)

There is no such thing as economical when you decide to have 2 vehicles at a time. Either one will be underultilise at the carpark. If I have to choose, I will opt for an OPC car/Van and a cl2 bike. And at least one vehicle is cashed out. Mainly cl2 bike is a Want for my personal ego/hobby/day transport and OPC car is a Need for my furture family. And I will try to look at a $10k range OPC/Van which I can cash out so as to lessen the monthly commitment level as well.

van is an option as there's no restriction, except going M'sia cannot. And registering a soho company is easy as going online and a few clicks. But be sure to get HDB approval first, also a few clicks.

The dam thing about vehicle ownership is the stupid coe renewal, you get a loan or your savings to buy this coe, and is valid for only 10yrs, and to keep the veh, you have to come up with money to renew it again. Effectively we already paid road tax for the vehicle, what the hell does COE do anyway??? Sucking us like a bunch of morons.

btw since here all car and bike owners, what forum or carwebsite gives a reliable review of cars? Pls dont tell me sgcar forum, i find that forum infiltrated by car dealers dispersing false information all the time. Foreign forums seems better info, but which?

I'm considering here too having a S4 & OPC. Plan to ride to work (11km to office) and weekends can go out with mum using the OPC.

Especially now they announce "zero vehicle growth", the COE will shoot up a lot??

haha.. that will depend what car forum do you intend to go to? Chances are that you will run into advertisers wherever you go.

not specified cars, but a review site like TV's fifth gear, torque, top gear etc, that gives reviews of new and old cars. In asia context, very hard to find, most credible site i found was mostly biased towards European makes, not much on Japs, Korean cars. I looking for bread & butter cars, not luxury or high performance cars reviews.

I don't think there's none. But you need to search around. The more successful ones will surely be intruded by advertisments. Take it easy and ignore them. But sometimes, the advertisements may show you something interesting.

I currently ride a modern vespa. I am also contemplating the idea of buying a 2nd hand OPC Getz/Picanto for around $15,000.

A motorcycle is still more practical for everyday transport when the traffic is heavy.

OPC car can be used when the traffic is low.

The initial cost of the OPC is almost like me buying a class 2 bike. Of course, overall running cost would be much higher.

opc car and a decent bike to ride... opc car can use at night when you want to pick friends up for a night out of kopi, occasionally fetch loads that bike cannot, saturday sunday can take family out... bike for regular monday-friday go to work... then sometimes can go malaysia comfortably that type one...

Am owning a X1R and a 2nd hand OPC swift. The X1R is almost fully paid and the swift is half way there already. Think this setup is very good for SG roads. I absolutely loathe driving on the roads during a jam, so I will choose to ride instead. Car for night outing with friends and bringing my parents to wherever they want for the weekends.

Ideally, I think it be better to have a 2a single cylinder bike instead of the x1r, something like a xr4 or a drz...
