Alu bars tends to breaks easily but it will dampen the vibration.. Straight bars wont hit the tank or anything as the angle is bent outwards than standard that bends inwards.. Means the bar is further to reach..

cause I'm keen in a lower than OEM handle, I wanna have a different riding experience w such changes... but not sure if fitment and would it cause problem on turning part. Some drilling requires on the new handle right?

don't think so. should be straight on fit if handlebar width is same. the wiring is all external for the hornet if i'm not wrong, so no drilling needed.

Hi Hornet owners,

If the neutral gear is hard to find (meaning, at 1st gear, if kick up lightly, it jumped to 2nd gear and if in 2nd gear, if tapped down lightly, it jumped to 1st gear) and only after trying for quite some time and even with some bit of throttling, then the neutral is engaged, may I know what's the problem (if any)?

Hopefully, someone can give me a clue to what is wrong.

Thanks.

Drilling is indeed required if youre using oem switch..

oh... ok so I should take that in consideration too....

haha not sure when gonna implement it... should be using the OEM switch... thinking of doing it myself but dun hav proper tools make it so much difficult.

how about performing a minor adjustment on the clutch biting point, it works for me... wonder if the cable would stretch over time??

Sounds bad . . . not my bike but one which I test-rode and contemplating whether to plonk my hard-earned money towards.

Other than this hard-to-find thingy, the bike sounds healthy, paintwork is OK and mileage is low.

Should I walk away from it?

Thanks for the advice

not serious could be just something as simple as biting point adjustment.

serious could mean gearbox is whacked, meaning replacement gearbox.

very ambiguous. are the other gears ok? no dragging, easy to shift from 2-3-4-5? if so, then probably is just the clutch engagement.

Gears engagement for the rest of the gears are OK.

Suspect is the clutch engagement point.

Anyway, I viewed it again and discovered the bike has been buanged before and at first viewing, escaped my eyes.

Upon viewing it again and with very thorough/detailed scrutiny, discovered some bits of shoddy paintwork and well-covered scratches.

Alignment of front forks also slightly off-alignment.

I want a bar something like this.. Dont quite like renthal bar as they are more to scrams type of bars.. I prefer those bars with an angle like those one the ducatis.. Wonder if any monster rider letting go thier stock bars..

Anyway, if anyone in need of a hornet 250 cdi year 2000 and above do let me know.. Ive got 2 spares excluding the one on my bike... Accidently bought 2 from 2 different webbies.. Need to let go one.. Agent 380, got it at 190 used.. Letting go at 100.. No point keeping so many cdi..

with the alignment out already, i will not consider, too risky.

look for a different unit. there's one in Looi's motor if you like. 03 model, blue with GPR exhaust. i think selling about 4k.

Thanks for your kind advice.

I'll pay Looi's Motor a visit and check out that specimen.

But with due respect and gratitude, is it worth getting a Hornet 250?

Considering the parts availability, the odd front tyre size and whatnots.

The handling is sweet, though! Makes one wanna just buy and forget the rest of the cons.

The look of it is a plus point and that huge rear tyre for a 250 is really solid (perhaps contributing to the flickability of it but damaging to the pockets upon tyre change).

I got the last piece of hornet from loois.. To me, ive own a few superfour before.. Hornet is just different and ive never regret buying it.. I felt that theres always something lacking in s4.. As for hornet.. I felt that everything is already there.. Rizoma is sweet but little over my budget.. By the way.. Parts are still readily available but a little pricey..

OK, thanks for the info. Too bad for me but does save me a wasted trip down to Looi's.

Yup, agreed. Tested a few CB400s and just 1 Hornet. Can't put my hand on it but there is something about the Hornet that I can't find in the CB400s I rode on. Mind, some of the CB400s are well-modded but just lacking that something. Also, given the fact that Hornet specimen I tested wasn't tip-top.

Well, I might just ended up with a CB400 . . .

If only Honda has bolted the CB400's engine onto the Hornet chassis . . . that'll be perfect!

Glad to hear that. The prices and "hassles" are part and parcel of ownership of the Hornet 250, I guess.

oooh, so @yinghai bought the blue colour model. mind sharing how much you paid for it. Last time I asked about 6 months ago, Uncle wanted 4k which is ridiculous.

@Senna4Ever, good luck in hunting the hornet. my advice is to get the bike you really want. Cb400 is a boring bike, similar to my Suzuki Impulse (though Its rarer and has the head turning factor)

If you're just looking for something to zip around on, then ok, its enough. but if you want something a little more spirited and fun, go for something else.

hornet250 is a good choice cause frankly you don't find many inline 4 250ccs anymore. mostly twins now. and 16k RPM is freaking high for a quarter litre naked bike. Imagine a running along CTE with a nice yoshi pipe at 10-12k rpm. wahhhhhhhhhhh.

Maintenance can be quite costly since you're paying 400cc maintenance cost for a 250cc, but the Hornet makes 40bhp so its fine. You need 3 bottle of EO, 4 sparkies, coolant, brake pad is 1 set front and rear. but the tyre size is killer. 120 front, 180 rear. looks good though.

I'm considering the Hornet 600 if I can't afford the price for a 2nd hand Triumph Street Triple by the time i get my Class 2 next year. still far off but already saving up. then again, maybe i'll just stick to my Ol Impulse since I already paid so much to restore it.....decisions decisions decisions.

$4K is with COE already renewed or yet to renewed? Understand that that specimen is a 2003 registered unit.

If COE has not be renewed, then the price is really super-duper high!

You're mentioning about the CB400 here or you're referring to the Hornet?

Yeah, agreed on that. Most 2B and 2A bikes can't touch that high rev range.

Imagine a running along CTE with a nice yoshi pipe at 10-12k rpm. wahhhhhhhhhhh.

Ain't gonna happen . . . first, apart from the SP Tadao, no other aftermarket pipe is legal for it. What with the busy activities of the white ants in recent couple of months. Second, CTE's tunnels have a speed limit of 80kmh . . . cameras also abound.

Maintenance is still affordable. It is the front tyre odd size that'll be a headache. BTW, thought the front tyre is 130? The rear tyre size will be pocket-bursting but agree that it makes the Hornet unique and looks damn good. Like the rear tyre of the Suzie GSR400.

I'm refraining from buying a Class 2 bike. Maintenance, road tax and petrol consumption are not my cup of tea.

Been there, done that. So, no.
