So enraged. Luckily I didn't flare up and I went back home safely.

But I just went to TIBS' website and sent them the below "feedback", and let fellow bikers take care when they see this taxi on the road:

I would like to feedback regarding the dangerous and irresponsible driving of the driver of TIBS taxi SHB7983B.

This happened on the Pan Island Expressway towards Changi Airport between the Paya Lebar and Eunos exits on 7th September 2010 at 2205 hours, when I was riding my motorcycle on the middle lane at a speed consistent with the vehicles in front.

However, SHB7398B came charging towards the back of my motorcycle out of the blue, tailgating me with almost no gap between our vehicles. I had totally no idea at all why he was charging at me so closely, and he even attempted several times to cut into the narrow space between my motorcycle (which is in the middle of the lane) and another vehicle on the right lane. If this TIBS driver was in a hurry, he could have used the rightmost lane, or signaled his intentions by flashing his lights or using the signal lights.

His irresponsible way of tailing innocent road-users so dangerously is absolutely unacceptable, and if I had unknowingly slowed down just a little bit when he was tailgating me, it would definitely have resulted in an accident. I am deeply disappointed and enraged with the driving attitude of this driver, as his driving showed absolutely no concern for the safety of other innocent road users.

As most drivers may not have a long term memory of road matters, please kindly and urgently investigate this incident soonest possible, and advise on the disciplinary actions that will be taken against this errant driver. I regret that if no satisfactory reply is received, this matter shall be referred to the press.

Kindest regards,

Taxis going Airport all bikers and drivers must beware especially those turbo diesel Taxis. The only way to survive either keep left of kee siao speed until they also think twice to challenge you but of course have to keep your eyes 90 degrees.Airport road there is 70kmh if you ride according to limit in the middle lane then you're inviting trouble unless there CISCO or speed trap.I myself encounter several incident thanks to ******* cabbies who think they owned Airport roads..Just beware of cabbies they're unpredictable, selfish and some would not hesitate to bang you..Dunno why Govt must give them turbo charged Taxis to those moronics.Any complaints with evidence should direct to LTA not those dimwit Taxi companies who always give standard reply. You think this if they always suspend cabbies then who gonna rent their Taxis?

Brother, i really hope you are reading my post of which immabout to write.

Do you have close connections with taxi companies or at least drivers?

I have. And it is no secret that all taxi companies organise themselves to that of a brotherhood/fraternity.

You can complain to their officers taxi driver did this and that and sure, you will be responded with a reply stating that the driver has been reprimanded and stuff BUT reality is - its just an act. A decoy to assure you that actions have been taken. These guys cover up one another as form of a welfare gesture. It'll be a loss of the compnay just to look for another grumpy road raged driver. For all you know, the taxi driver is back on the roads with another taxi vehicle with different no. plate.

So what is the best way to justify this?

Your detailed letter should have been sent to LTA directly. Directly. Directly.. Its like sending a letter to MP when you are surfacing problems in the army. (Oh i did..) I tell you - it is going to spark fireworks up the taxi office, papers flying everywhere.. Better still, ccarbon copy to both parties at the same time - clear indication of intention.

LTA! You have the details. You have right to.. And please dont ever complain to the taxis' respective companies. It doesnt work that way..

Hope this information gets passed on. Ride safe!

Omg.. how come you got a video of it? Let's post it on youtube or something, then we can spread the video around on facebook and let the company/driver kenna jialiat jialiat. Else poor motorcyclists' lives will be at stake everyday. :(

well written letter! let the story go to the press! I hope one day can see a full fledged article on newspaper about dangerous taxi drivers!

Agreed! We should gather all the complaints and send a long full-page article on the papers someday!!!

Fantastic idea brothers!

I am now at LTA's website drafting a feedback to them under the following headers:

Feedback Category: "Conduct and service performance of taxi drivers"

Title: "Dangerous driving by cab driver without any regards for the safety of other innocent road users"

Done. Feedback sent to LTA as follows:

I would like to feedback regarding the dangerous and irresponsible driving of the driver of TIBS taxi SHB7983B. The same feedback has also been sent to SMRT on the night of 7th September but no reply was given yet as yet.

I have received advice that it might be ineffective for taxi companies to self-regulate or impose effective disciplinary actions on their cabbies as there is a potential conflict of interest in getting taxi companies to punish their errant cabbies, as the taxi companies would likely be hurting their profitability if they were to melt out effective punishments.

Hence, in light of protecting innocent road users (motorcyclists and taxi passengers included) against loss of lives or several physical injuries due to the actions of irresponsible cabbies, I hope that LTA can take action to promptly address this issue, and/or if possible, to set a precedence on monitoring, enforcing, and disciplinary actions for errant cabbies, as they have generally been well-known/perceived as the most reckless group of road users.

The incident that I met with happened on the Pan Island Expressway towards Changi Airport between the Paya Lebar and Eunos exits on 7th September 2010 at 2205 hours, when I was riding my motorcycle on the middle lane at a speed consistent with the vehicles in front.

Suddenly, a TIBS cab with the licence plate SHB7398B came charging towards the back of my motorcycle out of the blue, tailgating me with almost no gap between our vehicles. I was unable to give way to him immediately as there were vehicles on both my left and right. Hence I had to (helplessly) continue to let him charge at my motorcycle on the expressway while I desperately tried to find ways to filter into the left lane in a bid to prevent any accident/harm to myself.

This cabbie's highly irresponsible manner of dangerously-tailgating innocent road-users is absolutely unacceptable. If I had unknowingly slowed down just a little bit when he was tailgating me, it would definitely have resulted in an accident.

Yea. Agree. No remorse at all.

To which, I always get tempted to hang a small pouch or something on my handlebars to carry a couple of rotten eggs. Then I can fling them at the cabbies or any rogue driver before I speed off.

But i never got around to doing it. haha..

But i tink the company just will reply to you say that they will take dicipline actions just to keep you quiet. but in fact, they will ignore your msg.

Hmmm... so far no reply from SMRT or LTA yet. I will post any replies I get here. Lets hope we can get more than just a standard answer.. hmmm...

Unfortunately this kind of thing is pretty common and while there are times I'd have called/written in to complain, I ended up taking sweet revenge in another fashion:

Give way to taxis deliberately.

A rider taking offensive action against aggressive drivers simply tells the general public that motorcyclists are badass basterds to be feared.

A rider deliberately giving way to vehicles in a great hurry/under pressure from backseat drivers automatically earns points and can get you favours from other road users. I can change lanes whenever and whereever I want while riding in familiar areas for this reason :3

Remember, bike is the most visible thing on the road like it or not. Doing the unexpected is the best way to make the offending aggressive cab driver (in your case) to realise his own issues. Perhaps not immediately, but when he ends his shift later at the coffeeshop, might think hmm, why did that S4 purposely give way to me ah, I tot bikers always like gangsta one?

Actually I usually give way to other vehicles, and I will keep to the left lane when not overtaking.

I was pissed and upset with the cabbie because i had no time to react at all, and just like how he cant quite overtake me, its difficult and dangerous for me to abruptly cut/dive into other lanes.

I do hope that taxi drivers and other car/van/lorry drivers can reflect and learn to drive safely.

Sigh... maybe before the next General Elections come, we should propose that all taxis be limited to 1,000cc engines.
