What do you guys think of Alpinestars Roam waterproof boots?

Ah Hong from Regina kept trying to sell me the Roam. But I personally don't like the straps and also due to the front shin guard is rounded instead of pointed forward, it'll rub slightly against my shin unless I wear very long socks.

My preference is the Alpha Touring WP boots which KNN doesn't have my size (46) and they super slow in replenishing the stock. Waited 2 months and nothing happened.

The fact is most touring boots as long as it states waterproof are adequate in terms of safety and riding in the rain. Only issues for me are comfort and design. I don't like too it to be too 'tech' as I wear underneath my office wear to/fro work and it'll look very weird although I'll change to my business shoes when I reach office. And although the boots itself might be waterproof, if it's too low, water will still sip in from the top even with rain pants. Another critical point is I must be able to feel the gear levers easily. I was having difficulties with the Astar Tech2 although it's an awesome semi offroad boots and fantastic protection. Much better than most touring boots but I reckon it's in fact more dangerous on daily rides as I can't confidently change gears. Perhaps when on tours and/or trails will be better since gear changing will be usually less frequent and not much hazards like other cars & bikes.

Go to the shops and try out the boots. Wear on BOTH FEET and walk around. I'm very happy with my $100 cheap Sigma and it served its intended purpose for my needs.

@WanFazer and @ticks , I think I you want to protect yourself, you have to either have storage space on your bike or lug around your gear.

If you don't want to do the latter, here's a few options for storage:

- top box or side boxes

- safepac waterproof bag with exomesh

- a plastic covered wire running trough the FF helmet and jacket sleeve, attaching both to the bike.

I've said it earlier in the thread, but I'll say it again anyway :p

TCX boots might be worth a look - I got my TCX Matrix 2 Goretex from Chiap Lee for $250. I'm not sure how that price compares with Alpinestar from Regina, but I am more than satisfied with the comfort and waterproofing on these. Fortunately I haven't had to test their protective capabilities, but they seem pretty sturdy for daily wear.

Chong Aik had a Sidi Mega Strada which I quite liked as well, but couldn't get in my size. You may want to check it out.

Just my 2c :)

Mmm, gotta go down to Regina to have a good try of the Roam boots as well as the WP touring. Thank Paikia for your input, it's informative!

Yup, Crank. Read the previous pages and saw your recommendation of TCX x five few pages back and I'm considering TCX X-cube or Jupiter 2 too, seems reasonable enough.

Also, high cuts would be X-action and X-miles, seems pretty reasonable too!

Other than that, Alpinestars Roam is one of my choices too.

Also, X-tour and Explorer 3 looks damn cool but guess it's outta my budget! Recently bought a Komine Fiore jacket.

most boots are waterproof in light drizzle and after the rain stops..

for heavy rain, it's advisable to wear rain coat and pants, covering the top part of the boot openings..

been wearing boots to work for a year, riding in heavy downpours. socks are still DRY when i reached office.

oh, for the record, my boots are from PUMA. :)

Got a pair of Alpinestar Ridge and Shibuya Waterproof. Both keep the socks dry. Ridge is higher, so in the even your pants isn't long enough, it's still fine.

Shibuya looks better imho, more street wear look, but the surface still absorb water, unless ridge where the water will jus stay on the outside completely.

Comfort wise, Shibuya better than ridge. Shibuya is softer, whereas ridge is stiffer and more bulky.

where did you buy the shibuya? They got the brown colour one?

I loosen the laces to the point that I can slip it on and off, but it's still snug on my foot and won't come off easily.

can all these waterproof boot be kiwi? coz the black colour seem to be faded? any issues if it goretex and got kiwi over it?

Kiwi are not good for leather, it actually blocks the pores. I would suggest u use mink oil instead. It not only cleans your leather boots, but will prolong the life span of leather as well.

Got a gaerne grt @ JR for $300, comfortable and waterproven! But sole came off after 6 months and after i got it fixed by the cobbler, water starts seeping in, probably cause i ask to sew the sole back on rather than glue on.

Try using ShoeGoo?

Mmm, got myself a Alpinestars Roam boots for $170.

Great pair of boots with extraordinary waterproofing! Went through heavy rain without any issues at all, unlike my previous boots.

Though its synthetic leather, it does break in pretty well. Now it conforms to my foot and allows me to wear it for extended periods, not to mention it allows me full flexibility. Was chased recently, managed to run away without issues.

Loving that pair of boots and applied SeamSure onto the seams of the boots to improve waterproofing on the seams. Sprayed 303 High Tech Fabric Guard on the boots to enhance its waterproofing capabilities too.

These products are recommended by Cyben76, good stuffs!
