I've always liked the R1100R, especially with panniers. It's a nice all-rounder. The lines are nice.

Actually I do have a question. Maybe you guys could help me out.

I was returning from KL couple of weeks ago when I noticed there was some brake fluid splattered on the inside of my right handguard. I might have done some hard braking. I inspected the reservoir and brake lever/cables and I can't tell where the leak is from. It's not very much, but you can see there's quite a bit of spray of fluid on the handguard.

I intended to get it checked out since Dillon is still under warranty, but after riding another few days, I realised there's no more leak at all. So I'm wondering what the prob could be and if I should bother getting it checked out. Any info would be great!

Thanks guys! :p

The brake reservoir for the R1200GS /GSA is vented. Therefore, when you travel at high speeds or cruise extensively at constant on highways, the deflected air around your windscreen goes right above the region where the reservoir is. This deflected air creates a vacumm pocket above the reservoir, thus sucking out brake fuild. Techinically, it can be solve by just putting a sock or wrist band on the reservoir and it will solve yr problem. It is a common occurence in all R1200GS's. Actually more common on the GSA. There are instances of it on the K1200S too.

Relatively easy job. Batt is under the fuel tank, just lift slightly up and then slide it off. The Yuasa-NP series batt is good, will last 2 years at least but not cheap (at most $150). Yuasa also has other series maintenance free. Do a search on the net for the batt that suits ya.

Most bike shop can do this type of non-invasive job so long as they know how to lift off the tank. I think probably Excel cycles can too since they have sold this model before.

Most bikes in Singapore use 12 volts. Some small old ones use 6 volts. I am given to understand that Ah (or ampere-hour) is an indication of capacity to hold charge, think of it like a reservoir. Beemers use anything from 19 to 30 Ah. Generally higher Ah rating, bigger batt. Maintenance-free batt for bikes does not go to 30 Ah, for that you gotta look to acid-lead; and they tend to be big.

Worse case just follow same specs as previous batt.

NIce Pics!! did u guys venture into the new route linking from Cameron eastwards, across Tasik Kenyir, all the way thru to Trengganu??

went thru from East to West via that stretch in early Oct '07, and it was barely done, without any lane markings etc. Lovely sight, just like in MHS!! :p

heard that that route will be 'officially' open in Dec (now?)
