What do you guys think of the new GS?

I felt that it lost some of the rugged look.. Now feel a little like a glamour bike instead.

I know that the power is better compare to those before.

Looking to buy a GS1200, in research phrase as to purchase the new one or older model. Any idea where to purchase the bike from for the best deal?

Hey OW,

My opinion for you if u still like the rugged look of a GS, get yourself the GSA, GS Enduro no more stock coming in le cos of the GS LC. Or the best get a resale GS.

Yup OW i agreed wif u of the GS LC outlook, is like a futuristic bike, I don't like it also.

Hope this help.

Thank you

Well, the thing is that i am a skinny guy.. the GSA is too big for me.. Plus i do not need the extra fuel capacity.

The others accessories are nice to have though.

But it seem like the current GS LC is selling at a lower price then the previous model.

Paralled importers are selling at at price of 36k.

IMO, I think at 36k, worth to get brand new instead of used. Another 2k to buy all touratech accessories. Total is 38k.

A quick search shows ppl selling at 35-38k second hand?!

Or is there something i missed out?

It really depends on individual, really.. 2 pair of eyes can never be the same.

The new LC boxer does have its strong and weak points but so does the old boxer. If you're looking for power go for the LC, but if you're feeling old skool oh well, you know the answer.

And if you're really looking for raw power get the ktm 1190. At 150bhp you can't be wrong.

See, it really depends what you want and what you need it for.

What's an ADVENTURE??

EVERYTHING!!

That's stupid. 3 years ago I did call them for a 2007 GSA that I was interested for. I given them the bike's number and they told me straight away that it was "their" bike. However they refused to tell me its service history which I found it very professional. Now they are asking you to go in person to check? Thats simply insane.

I had a shock too. I am very lucky that they never mentioned there is a fee to know this info.

800GS? I did the same, sat on a GSA and I'm like, I won't survive a fall on this and chose its little brother instead. Yes GSA feels like a nimble bike once it's moving but at times in my daily commute in spore traffic, it requires a little finesse. Hahaha

Sharkie, I talked on the phone with Dynasty motor. Quoted over the phone. Went to PML today and the base machine price is also 36k. But there are a lot of upgrade.. Or options they call it. After adding... Around 41k on the road at PML.

Interested? 2 buy together might have a better deal.

The new water head an awesome machine. In terms of power delivery definitely between then the hex head. If you are looking for a new R1200GS then good luck they don't have it any more, unless some PI keeping it. Good luck in your search/ purchase.

More likely or not they get the bike from PML. But they are known to throw in very good deals when you buy any Japanese bikes from them.

Dynasty motor is a good shop (from my experience of dealing with them). though whether or not you want Agent or PI bike, really up to the individual to decide. However if you are really leaning more towards PI BMW bike, cant go wrong with Dynasty and ya, perhaps if buy 2 bikes instead of 1, can get good deal from the owner hahaha. Bought mine there too.

Hey OW,

Thanks for the info. I was quoted 38k OTR with full options(panniers, topbox etc) by Speedway BUT its a PI. Im abit skeptical abt PI bike. My main concern is e service, repairs and maintenance support if i get a PI. Any recommendation anyone?

Only way to get Touratech accessories is from PML if you order direct. May want to drop by Mtechnik to take a look they may have some stock.

Sharkie,

I understand what you mean on the service and stuffs.

I have the same concern. But in the end, i still bought it from a PI.

Main reason is that I DO NOT like the way PML conduct the business. Nothing to do with the salesman. Just all the rules and regulations involved. Basically I felt that i am being 'threaten' all the way. I understand they are the AD. And certain measure is needed to maintain business. But i guess its up to individual to choose where to buy from. Below are part of my thought process.

1) Must take loan from them, and if take loan must be at least $20k. If by full cash, additional 1k on top of quoted price (FOR WHAT?!). PI said any amount also ok. No top-up needed even if I pay full cash.

2) Must buy insurance from them. PI say its my choice.

3) Fixed package, cannot custom configuration (either LED Headlights or spoked wheels, cannot have LED and spoke wheel, unless you buy additional set of wheels (2k?). Cruise control is also not in the same package as LED headlight. And these 2 are the 2 main new function for the 2013 GS1200 LC. Stupid packaging and inflexible. PI offers customization and flexibility.

4) When i ask why should i buy from them instead of PI, the answer is that if i were to buy a PI bike and require their service, I need to pay $5k and additional 25% on top of the original charges (Again, threatening manner). The usual thing about recall and maintenance support is also mentioned. PI say its 2yrs international warranty. PML will not service your bike unless you pay them the adoption fee first. But dealer in Malaysia and thailand can support if needed. As it will be registered. PI agreed that this is the limitation they have. However, he is offering at a better price and also has the required service diagnostic tools for the electric work.

5) Warranty by PML is 2 years. Warranty by PI also 2 years. (Qns is who will keep stock and if the PI is still in business)

6) Purchase touratech from PML, they are charging labour for installation. Period. PI can install for a cup of coffee. And he can hand carry touratech accessories for me from Germany. He is going to be there. (Value added!)

7) PI offers to 'lend' me a bidded number plate at no additional cost. (Value added)

8) PML offers a 2013 model currently. PI offers a 2014 model. Differences is on a additional steering damper (~1k?) and some additional riding modes.

I know that they are the Authorised dealer, but that reason itself should not be the only reason why they are able to charge more. IMHO, it should be on other aspect as well especially the bikes are produced by the same factory.

All in all, although the Liquid cooled GS1200 featured an entirely new engine, I choose to take the 'risk' any recall that BMW might conduct. So i will try to keep a look out on any recall that might be conducted. If the PI has the diagnostic tool, the risk is significantly reduced.

38k with topbox and side pannier is worth roughly about 1.5k + the insurance about 1k?, Full option would include heated hand grip, Led headlight, cruise control and all the riding modes (5 of them). Its a even better deal than what i have! :) Another thing to note is the year of production as the Euro countries have been riding the 2013 model since 2012!.

Just my 2 cents. Do share again. I am now scouting where to get the accessories.

*****UPDATE as of April 2014: Advice is not to get from PI. I still haven't got my bike after almost 10 mths of waiting. Long story and is lazy to post. I will still get my bike. Just excuses after excuses and worry about being cheated. If I were to do it again, I dun care about that few k.

Hi Bro OW;

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding buying from PML vs PI. I found it very informative. I wish you all the best with your new LC GS!

I have been riding my 2001 Yamaha R1 for over 10 years now and feel it is time for a change. I am very keen on the R1200GS as I believe this model will fulfil my next 10 years of motorcycling. I am 40 now.

However, I am looking for used R1200GS, 5 years or less, mileage under 50k. If you or any bros here know anyone who has one for sale, I would be grateful for the contact.

I am able to settle in cash for the right deal. Preferably PML bike but it is not a must.

Many thanks! Huang (Hp: 9295-7970)
