My experience with the following bikes : s4 vtec1, hyosung comet gt250 and s4 vs.

S4 vtec1

- powerful

- high consumption 201km/l (relative)

- good for light touring.

Where can i view? I pay cash.

in terms of usable power, FC, monthly maintence cost, how many cc is enough for singapore city + expway riding and which bike suits the cat?

i have in mind the ninja 250r, super4, gsr400, new cbr 250r

do u guys think a 600cc is too much for sg roads?

assuming rider keeps to speed limit except maybe the occasional 100-120 on expway

or is a 250 just nice or not enough?

comments plz

wanna decide if its worth commiting myself to a large cc bike.

If you have been riding long enough, you would know your riding habits and lifestyle(hangouts, traffic conditions to/fro work).

I believe all 2a bike cruises well at 100-120kph and capable good braking.(2b bike 100kph aint 100kph). I would recommend the super four with vtec. Its popular for many reasons. Reliabillity, handling, vtec when you need it and resale value.

If you're looking for a speed chase, Ninja 250r is more desired due to the dual cylinder than the cbr250r single(But honda engines i really love... built to last) but then again, would a 250cc satisfy your appetite for speed? or would you rather get a gsxr-600, cbr 600 or an r6 with the price tag that you are paying?

my 2 cents =)

ride safe guys!

was comparing the ninja250r parallel twin engine and the super4's inline4.

super4 seems to cost twice as much in regards to oil change.

then again, nothing can make up for the power difference.

if i were to look for a 400cc sports bike, what are the local choices?

cbr400

rvf400

gsxr400

zxr400

did i miss out any?

zxr400 availible in sg? have yet to see one!=(

gsxr400, rvf, cbr are all very old bikes and made to be ridden hard and can be a big headache to get things right.... wiring probs(hohoho), Overhauls are like 1-2k? radiators? rvf are abt 7-8 k and a cbr 4-6k. gsxr 2-3(hear say its a problematic bike)

but if you get a good one or willing to pay.. ooh la la. fc not bad at all and fast compared to the s4s.

you may save a little on oil change but you put it back on the insurance for a sports bike.

though i agree small displacement bikes are more practical in sg, a bigger bike handles, stops and gets you away from sticky situations much better.

IMHO, I have own quite a handful of bikes so far... for superbikes to Sport-tourers.:cheeky:

There is no straight answer to your question...

Instead before getting a bike, you have to ask your self what's the bike to be used for?

1st Choice

Mainly transport?

Local use only?

Than my personal choice would be ~ A KUP! ~ Mainly the humble YAMAHA SPARK 135.

Why?

a) It's thai-made. That made finding parts a breeze! Both Locally and over in Malaysia.

b) It's one of the few Kups with a Radiator and Oil filter.

c) It's running on Mono shocks making it's handling second to none in it's class.

d) Maintenance is rock bottom economical.

I use to own one in which I rode round Malaysia, heading as far as Sadao!:thumb:

*I have 2 friends who rode HONDA WAVE 125 all the way to the Lao's Border!

2nd choice (Should you have Class 2A or 2)

For both Local and occasional overseas trips.

My choice would be ~ Superfour CB400

Why a 400cc rather than a larger engine capacity?

a.) Road tax cost ~ Appox $115 per annually when compared to higher engine capacity bikes.

b.) Insurance ~ Much much cheaper when compared to higher engine capacity bikes.

c.) Ease of maintenance, by now due to it's popular demand and quantity on the road. Most Bike Shops are able to service and trouble shoot it.

d) Spare Parts????/ As easy as Chong Aik and Lim Ah Boy!

e) With appox. 50 horses on your right hand, it'll have more than enough horse power to get you out of tight situations.

*I own one (Boldor Version) and enjoying every minute on it. Had since re-build the bike with extra panniers for long over seas trips. No regret in getting one!:thumb:

Just my $0.02 input...

Cheers!

Super 4 is a better bike in my opinion for SG or overseas.

No regret owning it.

Stoner,

Regarding ur boldor

i remeber seeing a pic of a boldor with full side fairing done at motoworld?

Well, I have yet to see one with full farings on. All I did was to have the Fatory Screen replace with one from MRA. It has been great! So far, have been up north Malaysia many times in the last 3mths.

Fixed some old GIVI E45 as Pannies... Look damnm odd by they do great due to it's carrying capacity.

In short, it greatly depends on your personal needs... I've own ST1100, 929s & a couple of ZX1100 (me old school lol). Brought a Superfour for it's solid build old school Cab. Engine, Junks of spare parts locally and good Re-Sell Value! :)

2009 Yamaha FZ1 Fazer Owner's Review

Unlike some of the other respondents, I haven't owned dozens of bikes - I've only owned 2: a Super4 VTEC 1, and now a Fazer FZ1000S (Gen1). I don't regret upgrading, but if I ever had to downsize, I would go back to a Super4 without hesitation.

If you want to go touring, you might like to have a bit more power and some form of aero protection (windscreen etc), but I don't think I can find a single major flaw in the bike for local use. More than enough power even with pillion, good handling, comfort & looks, decent fuel mileage and acceptable running costs. Very well rounded and quality product, would definitely recommend :thumb:

kup kia best

Frankly a kup is good enough for Singapore....

Get yourself a bigger CC bike if you want to enjoy your ride, feel good and go fast in Malaysia or Thailand.

Otherwise it's just not practical to own a bigger bike in Singapore as a daily ride with the amount of cars on the road nowadays.

IMHO, I have own quite a handful of bikes so far... for superbikes to Sport-tourers.:cheeky:

what kind of stfighters? i read that the gsr400 is tuned for low to mid range torque, any other st fighter?

St fighter for CLS2 what I can think of FZ6, CB600F, GSR600, Monster, St-triple

servicing very close to CB400SF (*don't say about parts replacement that subjected to indivdual bike)

rd tax n insurance definitely cheaper than CLS2 bike.

So have you conclude ur choice of bike? (*No rush, its important getting your fav ride n enjoying every moment of it)

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

haiz... missing my boldor now :(

i've got a 250cc two stroker and its comfortable cruising speed is too fast for sg traffic.

2b two strokers are good enough.. but for thai made ones, the brakes needs to be improved.

but now the trend is toward 4 strokes..

the newer 4stroke 2b sports bikes are nice tho but their price cant beat the value of 2stroke power.

sports cub like spark, x1r, sonic, raider have enough speed and handling anyways.
