We've all heard and read the wonders of degreasers in cleaning your chains, rims, swingarm, etc...

Had a good experience with them a couple of times too.

Then come today.. My degreaser seemed to leave drip marks on my engine block!! *faints* cannot wash, scrub off with water, detergent, tissue, cloth. Jialat

some white marks on my swingarm too

anyone experience this before??

instructions read(summarized)

-spray on surface thats hot but not too hot that you cannot touch with your hands

-leave for 15min

-spray with strong stream of water

-immediately start the engine and let it run for 15min to dry

What I did not obey was...

-spray on hot hot engine

-leave for 5min

-spray spray is the only 'correct' thing i did

-started engine 5min later

-it was then, i saw the hideous marks, OMG

so help me God!

p.s oh btw, it's Penray Degreaser im using

the spray is not strong enough. try putting some more, dont let dry n rub off with hand n cloth.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

the chemical had eat into the metal.. the degreaser that you used is too strong..

I use S100 degreaser, strong to remove tar and dirt, yet does not "eat" into your metal..

I use it for my chain and spocket cleaning too..

u're right bro BP, i tried the degreaser again today, following the instructions...can't wash off, can't wipe off..coz I think nothing to wash/wipe. it's decolored.

hmm..perhaps i should try decoloring the whole part of that engine...to get 1 'decolored' color, haha.. but I duno how to go about it, it WAS a freak accident

spray on surface you want, allow longer time for it to dissolve the paint...

hahaha!!!

TS: just live with it.. no choice.. there's nothing you can do to it to make it better.. dun try anything, you dun wanna make it worst right??

Archer boy: Biketech21.. I diluted it with 50% water to save money.. haha.. using it at full concentration also ok, but waste money ah.. even Shah told me to dilute.. I only used 100% for dirty chain cleaning.. but now all the way use the 50% one..

lesson learnt la.

anyways, there's nothing to be done, the degreaser has eaten into the metal, although surface only.

don't try to reuse that degreaser, might make things worse.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

Seems like I'm only left with 1 choice, that's to send my engine block for painting.

Any recommendation for that? Also, do they usually dismantle my tank n engine to spraypaint?

Or just cover undesired parts and spray paint?

ok, i'll try..

initially i couldn't make out which is the dirt n which is the paint, but since u say putting more doesnt clear it off, it's the acid in the degreeser that's eating away the paint like biting_point said.

u could make all discoured by using some acid like thinner, but do take care not to affect other parts too. however i wont recommend it.

u can also spray paint ur self, buy a can of heat resist paint, tape up the surround parts with newspaper, then spray. take note of the screws also, spray them n in future they might be hard to take out. good luck. :)

if its just the side covers ( clutch , stator covers ) its easy to remove them, and diy paint(save alot of money , gasket $5? paint $10 sand paper 50c , and patience ).. the first picture ( swingarm right? ) doesnt look affected. im going to repaint my engine side cover too. gg find some high temp spray paint first..

Catch no ball. Dont mind me questioning...about Loois motor part... are you replying to any comment in this thread?

np. just asking "biting point" abt the S100 when mixed with water was it as effective?

As for your stains you may want to try to rub it off with super fine sand paper with water. The kind they use for plastic modelling.

i suspect there might be some form of lacquer on the surface of the engine block. and ur degreaser actually 'degreased' the lacquer....
